I es suffering from Tb so my doctor hs advided me to take steroid (Decadron)24 mg per day bt slowly n steadily he reduces it n after 3 & half months i stoped taking it.. bt due to tje side effect of that drug i developed swelling on my face. I am very sorry about the cold sores, I know that they can be very painful, as well as embarrassing. There are several products available over the counter that can help alleviate the discomfort, including Carmex and Blistex. I'd not suggest using the Lidocaine, unless it is specifically approved to be used on the facial/oral area. Abreva is another over the counter product that can sometimes help shorten the duration of a cold sore. The NIH and FDA list cold compresses, or ice as possibly helping to relieve the discomfort, they also suggest using Orajel, Anbesol, Tylenol or Advil to help with the pain.
