My 44 year son taking this drug for bacterial bladder infection. Following completion of the med, his urine is dark & grainy & it's difficult to urinate. Hi I was prescribed smz/tmp tab for diarrhea and fever. Well the fever went away after 2nd day but diarrhea has not stopped and it's been 5 days. Doctor wants me to take this for 10 days. Ive been taking this medicine for two months now. No problems. But a day ago I got bit by a few mosquitos, turns out I now have west nile virus. I have horrible aches, headache, neasua and a fever. can alcahol be used while takingSMZITMP DS 800-160 ## Hi Tom, It's actually NOT recommended that you have any alcohol while you are taking Trimethoprim. Reason being is that the interaction can increase your risk of certain side effects such as rapid heartbeats, increased body temperature under the skin, nausea, and vomiting. If you want avoid those risks, it may just be best to play it safe and wait it out through the duration your treatment. I hope this helps!
