In about 1 to 2 hours after taking this drug I get the chills and shakes and all my joints ache. I also get very queasy. I have been fighting this for 5 days now. Can you help me? Thanks. ## I have 5 day dose of the following antibiotic: SMZ/TMP DS 800-160 TAB It was used previously on: 3/3/10 For whatever reason I did not finish this Rx and have #10 pills left. My question is... What is the shelf life of this antibiotic??? I believe I am beginning a UTI and would like to take these and push the water and cranberry juice to get on and over this infection. I've been talking this medication for 4 days now for uti. It so far has made me tired and metallic taste in my mouth. It has made me sensitive to the sun. Unfortunately, i can also associate this with having my period. So in not sure if I'm having a body ache or cramps. Smz Tmp DS 800 160 was prescribed along with steroids to treat a mold infection I had in my sinuses. Had great difficulty with digestion during the 15 days prescribed, and had to take over the counter medicine to alleviate severe heartburn, and ice cream for stomach discomfort. After completion of prescription 5 months ago and to date, have been left with a condition of Lactose Intolerance (never experienced before) and one or two days a month of severe fatigue and some joint pain. I have a 10 day prescription of SMZ/TMP D'S 800-160 TAB INTERPHARM. I'm having lower abdomen pains, some slight vaginal bleeding. I have sunburn also! Are these normal side effects? ## This is an antibiotic, it's normal side effects may include nausea, dizziness, stomach ache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. The vaginal bleeding is not normal, unless you are on hormonal contraceptives, because this can negate them, so it would be breakthrough bleeding. Is there anything else I can help with?

can alcahol be used while takingSMZITMP DS 800-160 ## Hi Tom, It's actually NOT recommended that you have any alcohol while you are taking Trimethoprim. Reason being is that the interaction can increase your risk of certain side effects such as rapid heartbeats, increased body temperature under the skin, nausea, and vomiting. If you want avoid those risks, it may just be best to play it safe and wait it out through the duration your treatment. I hope this helps!

Since taking SMZ/TMP DS 800 I've had problems with ligaments of my shoulders and knee. I mentioned this to my doctor & she said it is a side affect but said nothing else about it. I took the drug after taling 2 others and none of them totally cleared up the celulitis in my lower leg...Any coment? ## I went to the doctor because of an infection in my lower leg called celluitis. i'm having stomach pains,can't eat ,cold,headachs ## Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim, the active ingredients in Bactrim, is an antibiotic and it has been known to cause those types of side effects, however, some could also be due to the infection that is being treated. I took the last tablet of tis medication yesterday. About 5ish this afternoon, I began itching and broke out in hives all over. Ive been taking this medicine for two months now. No problems. But a day ago I got bit by a few mosquitos, turns out I now have west nile virus. I have horrible aches, headache, neasua and a fever. I've been doing warm compresses often to bring the abcess to a head to drain. Nothing is working. The infection is growing. Everything that I'm reading about Smz/Tmp 800 is freaking me out! Now I don't think that I want to take it! Anyway I was wondering if it will work on an abscess? Please, any help would be great! ## I understand your concern, since it is a sulfa based antibiotic, it can cause some problematic side effects in some people that take it and about 3% are allergic to it. I had a bad experience with it myself and can't take it, again.
