Severe Nerve Pain

I had shingles which left me with severe nerve pains. The doctor kept on prescribing epletin for the past five months. Will it eventually help on completely getting rid of the pain? ## If it hasn't done so after 5 months, there's not much of a chance that it's going to and you should talk to your doctor about trying something else. Most medications reach their full effectiveness in the body after just 4 to 6 weeks and you are long past that time period. Is there anything else I can help with?

I am afraid to discuss options for pain management with the hand surgeon I see this morning. I am so uncomfortable and have had oxycodone before but was curious if that is normal for severe nerve pain or if the have other options. Just want to be comfortable until surgery ## Oxycodone is commonly the preferred option for severe pain, because it is known to very effective and it can be used in some fairly high dosages. Learn more Oxycodone information here. When are you having the surgery?

I have RSD in both feet and after bladder lift surgery, have all symptoms of RSD in pelvic area. Am taking 6, 15mg morphin and 6 , 10/325 percocett a day plus I have an implanted pain pump with dilaudin in it and I have severe pain 24 hrs a day. Any suggestions to maybe a different type medicine or anything would be appreciated. I also take 4 , 1mg xnax a day and yes I can function. I have beeen taking this for 5 yrs and it does not touch my pain. I have about had it. ## Has your doctor had you try any of the anticonvulsants that have been shown to help with certain types of nerve pain, such as Gabapentin? Or Pregabalin? Many people have gotten very good results with them, so you may want to discuss that with your doctor. What else have you tried?

I have a severe hip pain when I set down it does not hert when I walk and lay down it is bad pain ## Have you consulted your doctor? If the pain is only occurring, when you lay down, there's a chance that it's some type of nerve compression from a spinal problem. The NIH lists other possible symptoms as including numbness and tingling. Are you on any medications?

Hi, I have severe Nerve pain caused by Pudendal Neuralgia. I won't take Endone because of the constipation it causes which makes the Nerve pain worse. I have just been given Targin as we are running out oh options. I also take Tegretol and Lyrica at the highest doses and they do nothing! ## Hello, Sheila! How are you? Targin is listed as containing Oxycodone and Naloxone, so you may experience better results with it. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Have you tried it, yet? ## Hi all. Please advise how many times you can have hernia repairs done? Previously I had nine repairs recently, I had it done and a mesh was put in...

Is Lyrica beneficial for nerve pain? ## I just got diagnosed with torm muscles and severe nerve damage to scapula after 4 1/2 yrs of being a lab-rat, after a work related injury. The specialist put me on Lyrica only a few days ago. I not am not sure what to think of it yet as I feel like I am floating in mid-air and feel like I have a permanent huge hangover. It has been impossible for me to concentrate on anything, including conversations. Although I have more energy, I feel like I am forcing myself to stay awake. This is the worse feeling I have ever had, especially when my pain level has not decreased. This is the strongest and I must say strangest medication I have ever had, I hope they find an alternative for me. ## Lyrica contains the active ingredient Pregabalin. This is an antic...

i have been on Accutane for three months now, first two on 20mg and started the 3rd month on 40mg. After upping the dose, I got severe nerve pain in my mouth, initially I thought it was my teeth so I went to the dentist and discovered it wasn't my teeth nor gums (which was a bonus) however the pain lasted on and off for over a week which I can only describe as an intermittent electric shock feeling which painkillers have not helped with. I have tried contacting my Dermatologist but have had no response. Has anyone else had this as a side effect? ## Hello, Catherine! How are you? Yes, that can be a side effect of this medication, as reported by the U.S. FDA. You may also experience nausea, skin rash, abdominal pain, diarrhea and depression. Has anyone else that's taken it experie...

I was started on Warfarin in May 2016. Dx: Pericarditis w Afib. Mid July 2016, I had a ruptured foot tendon accompanied by severe nerve pain in feet & tingling in my lips. I spoke with the doctor on call & was told it could not be the Warfarin. In June 2017, the joint & nerve pain & toe pain became so severe that I stopped the Warfarin & started Nattokinase. Yes I have been on Metoprolol & realize that can have the same side effects, but my question is specific to Warfarin. Thank you for having this great chat line. ## Yes, those can be side effects of Warfarin, according to FDA reports. It may also cause nausea, dizziness, increased risk of bleeding, and easy bruising. As to Nattokinase, that is just a supplement, so it has not been tested and proven to help wit...

I had neck surgery in 2016 and immediately after surgery I developed a severe burning pain in my left should and down the upper part of my arm. Had xrays, CT's, shows a little arthritis, but this was from surgery. Can't find a doctor that can tell me what is wrong and what to do. I have been living with this pain almost 3 years and can hardly lift arm. Don't know what else to do. ## It sounds like you might have nerve damage from the surgery, or from the problem that made the surgery necessary, unfortunately, that is a risk with almost all surgeries. You can learn more about it on the NCBI website. Have you consulted a neurologist, yet? They are usually the best person to consult in such cases. ## Thank you. Yes I have consulted with neurologist they have no idea what is wr...

I have been taking this for 2 months now starting at 20 and now at 30 and I've been waking up (sometimes after only 4 or 5 hours sleep) with severe pain in my fingers, hands and sometimes my arms!? I don't see an exact pattern it seems to be more random. Has anyone else noticed similar effects when taking this medication? Maybe it was more so in the beginning, I should have written it down it was very frightening and painful ??. ## Since my last post I have experienced an alarming event with my fingers turning white and painful and it turns out it's something called Raynaud's syndrome. You kind of Google it, it is exactly what happened to me twice now since my last post. The vessels close and basically stop circulation to the fingers at last at 30 mins the first time n 1...

Hey y'all, I was on fentanyl 100 for 15 yrs, it worked or at least helped me lead a normal life. I have secondary progressive multiple sclerosis & basically all they can do is help the pain. I got off the 100 myself because of a bowel blockage. Major fun & games, NOT! Few months ago i went back, started on 25 then 50 & now 75. I feel absolutely no dif in my pain. Trying to get in to see a doc very soon. HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE WITH FENTANYL? No Relief at all? It's all soo freaking depressing. So f****n sad. Thank you. ## Hello, Alexie! How are you? If you still have a tolerance built up, then the lower dosages would not help. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizzines...

For various reasons I suffer severe pain related to: Spinal Stenosis, herniated disc in cervical spine, previous broken tailbone. I have previously tried, Oxycontin, Hydrocodone, but now am on Fentanyl patch along with Neurontin. These only control about 50% of pain and have often "breakthrough" pain that is nearly unbearable. A friend recommended Methodone to add to these meds. Can anyone tell me if it would help? Also, would it be risky as far as overdosing? I have a really high tolorance to opiates. ## In most cases, Methadone wouldn't be advised, because it is very addictive and habit forming. In most cases for breakthrough pain, an instant release medication would be used, such as Oxy IR, which is available as a generic, or MS IR, which is an instant release morphine th...

prescribed for me to help the pains of nerve inflammation [nerve between L5 & S1 ## Methylcobalamin is a form of vitamin B12, a deficiency in it has been shown to cause or contribute to some forms of nerve pain. The only way to see if it will help you is to actually try it, for awhile, and see if you have any improvement. Just like anything else, there are people that get great results from it and there are others that it doesn't help. Are there any other questions or comments? ## I have severe feet pain at night, age 67, been having it for 8 years, now hands are doing same, if I'm upset, or work hard... (I'd rather be working anyday as sitting) would this help me... without sleep you stumble around during the day time... I can sleep from 7-am to noon well, without pain....

I've had surgery and pain block injections for damage to nerves in my lower spine from a 'spur' - neither helped. Been on painkillers daily for 35 yrs, tried everything and now at best left with 80% pain. Had 100mcg fentanyl patches and their effect lessened so now I'm on 62.5 mcg fentanyl + 3x 300 mg gabapentin + 3x 50 mg tramadol combined daily. Still in agony. Any suggestions to help me please? What is the maximum mcg strength of combined fentanyl patches that can be used together every 72 hours? Thanks.

I have piroformis disease/ sciatica. I've been having problems with my lower back for about a year. Herniated disc L4/L5. Before the sciatica, I went to the ortho and he gave me tramadol which did nothing... So my primary doctor gave me hydro 7.5 #20 as needed since I was in a second car accident (back pains started from first accident)... The night of the doctor visit is when the sciatic nerve started to cause pain. I went to the ER because I have sharp pains in both buttocks, and all down my left leg. Both feet are numb and I can not move my toes. I went to the ER. They gave me a shot of morphine, which knocked down my pain level from a 10 to a 3. They prescribed me Tylenol w/ codiene 300-60mg. I haven't got it filled because it's a Sunday. When I go back to the doctor tom...

She's telling me I can't receive my pain meds and my Xanax too! I have a contract with a comprehensive pain specialist. Can she kick me out of pain management because of the new guidelines in Tennessee? I'm going through a divorce and I've lost my son in a car wreck! I'm in constant pain and I'm having a pa...

Severe diabetic neurology pain in both legs. Leg cramps, restricted ability to walk and stand. ## This medicine combined with lyrica has helped signifcantly. HoI wever, my gland on my left side has swollen, I do know if it is related. I had other such severe symptoms while eating. I am going to cut back on the medicine and see if my symptoms improve. ## Have you consulted your doctor? Both the Phenytoin and the Pregabalin in Lyrica are anticonvulsants that have also been shown to help with some types of nerve pain. The side effects you listed aren't typical, but it's hard to say how any medication may effect any person that uses it. You really should talk to your doctor to see if it is from the medications, rather than some other problem. Please post back and let us know how you...
