I have taken the 48 pac of prednisone before and it was a graduated dosage by the cards they were on - the prescription I received today was in a bottle and did not have any instructions on how to take them like the ones in the pac. Can you help? ## Are you starting to come off the med? I think you have to gradually come off it. But this current bottle must have a periodic schedule for it, only all at the same dosage. Is this new bottle prescribed by the same doctor? The safest bet would be to contact your doctor or the pharmacy who dispensed it. ## Was just prescribed this medication for a sinus infection. Mine came in a bottle that instructs you to take 2 tabs every12 hours for 3 days, then 1 tablet every 12 hours for 4 days. Was prescribed by a doctor. ## I started out taking my medi...

Can someone take 10 mg of Prednisone then just stop or do you have to taper off? ## Just one tablet likely won't require a taper, but it's also not going to help you much, since that won't give it a chance to have much of a therapeutic effect in the body. I have had problems with my feet and legs swelling for over 10 years. Recently, I was placed on Prednisone by the doctor for possible RA. The fluid retention in my feet and legs have gone down considerably. I know that this is not the normal side effect taking this medication. Could you possibly tell me the ingredient that could be causing this? I have tried other fluid retention medication and nothing seems to work, but I'm not comfortable taking the Prednisone for a long period of time to solve the fluid retention problem. ## There are no other active ingredients, it is Prednisone, which is a steroid class medication. Need help with tablet count for prescription. I'm a student and I have to calculate the number of tablets needed to fill the rx. Prescription reads Prednisone 10MG # QS. The SIG is: 30mg bid x 2d 25mg bid x 2d 20mg bid x 2d 15mg bid x 2d 10mg qd x 2d 5mg qd x 2d (then stop) I also need help with writing the patient label based on this rx ... Thank you. Alan ## Hi Alan, I'm not quite familiar with your method for calculating the number of pills. Is there a type of formula you are following to get where you are? It's definitely something that one would consider to be as simple as putting the right number of pills into the right container, but I can see that it is much more than just that. Below are a couple of sites that I thought could be of help to you when calculating or co...

Hello everyone, can someone please tell me how can I taper of prednisone 10mg. I was giving this medication because of sinus inflammation. My order was one pill a day I only took it for 11days and I don't like the way it make me feel, I was wondering if I can just stop taking the pill and also what is the best non steroidal inflammatory medication. ## Hello, Kim! How are you? You should double check with your prescriber, but usually a taper only needs to be done, if you've been taking it for 3 weeks or more, thus you should be able to just stop taking it. What side effects did you experience? The FDA lists the typical ones from this steroid as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, fluid retention, weight gain, acne, nervousness and insomnia. My grandma has been taking prednisone 10mg a day for almost a month. She just all of a sudden stopped taking them because she felt better. Now she's having pain in her leg. Is it from stooping the prednisone ## Hello, Lisa! How is your grandmother doing? If she was taking it for 21 days, or more, there could be some problems caused by stopping it suddenly, rather than tapering it. However, only her doctor can check this out and give you a definitive answer. Typical side effects while taking a steroid, such as this, may include nausea, dizziness, headache, weight gain, acne and fluid retention, as listed by the FDA. Is she on any other medications?

I misread the instructions..they read take 3 tables by mouth daily 3 times a day. I took 3 tables in the morning and 3 tables in the afternoon. As soon as I realized my mistake and took no more tables. ## Hello, Candace! How are you? No, going by those instructions, you should be taking 9 tablets a day, 3 at a time, spread throughout the day, which is a normal dosage to treat certain conditions. It is always best to double check with your doctor or pharmacist, but that is the way they are stated. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, acne, fluid retention and weight gain. Is there anything else I can help with?

I was cleaning my coffee pot with vinegar & water and it spilled out on my counter. My prednisone pills 10 milligrams were in a paper envelope. How do I taper off of it. It has caused me so many different side effects. I have been taking it for 8 months ## Hi Alice, Sorry to hear about your challenges with Prednisone. From what I've researched online, it's usually best to work closely with your doctor on developing an appropriate tapering schedule while monitoring your progress as often as he/she see's fit.. This is because the amount of time that it may take to wean off Prednisone not only depends on the type of disease being treated, the dose/duration of use, but also other individual medical considerations as well. And if you were to experience any complications during the tapering process, at least in this situation your doctor would understand what's going on and would try do whatever it takes to help you r...

if the bottle says take 6 tablets a day for two days, then 5 tablets a day for two days, then 4 tablets a day for two days, then 3 tablets a day for 2 days, then 2 tablets a day for 2 days, then 1 tablet a day for two days, then 1/2 a tablet a day for two days. ## You should follow the instructions exactly as on the label, tapering is essential to prevent complications from withdrawing too fast, since this is a steroid class medication. You can take them all at once, or split them up throughout the day, taking them all at once may cause more side effects, such as nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and headache. Is there anything else I can help with?

The vet gave my dog prednisone for his skin problems it has cleared up but the spring time he starts straching again. Can I give this pill to him again ## Hello, Shannon! How are you? Even in dogs, Prednisone risks causing some serious side effects, such as high blood pressure, fluid retention and heart failure, so it would be best not to give it to him, without your vets approval. What is causing the itching, is it an allergy? Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may include nausea, headache and nervousness.

Can I take Tylenol with Prednisone? I have a headache and this is all I've got. ## Hi Teresa - I checked medlineplus.gov and did not see any mention of Acetaminophen (the active ingredient in Tylenol) being listed as something to avoid while taking Prednisone. I did see blood thinners, as well as Aspirin on the list. Ultimately I would place a quick call to the pharmacy just to be safe. Here is what I found: " Tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, and nutritional supplements you are taking or plan to take. Be sure to mention any of the following: amiodarone (Cordarone, Pacerone); anticoagulants ('blood thinners') such as warfarin (Coumadin); certain antifungals such as fluconazole (Diflucan), itraconazole (Sporanox),...

pills expired in 2008- are they still good to treat poison oak in August 2011 ## Certain drugs are actually okay to take after expiration, whereas others such as antibiotics can become toxic. My personal assumption is that it lost a good percentage of its potency by now, having been 3-4 years old. I would also check with your doctor or pharmacy to make sure that you're using the most effective treatment option for poison oak. It may still be effective, but not nearly as potent. It's also impossible to give a direct answer to this question, since each medication can effect people differently. We all know that it's better to avoid the expired drugs and stay on the safe side, but unfortunately, the only way to find out is to actually try it. I wouldn't suggest taking that r...
