Pain Medication For Back

I am 93 and have severe back and neck pain. I had back surgery 15 years ago after a back injury causing back and leg pain. After surgery, the leg pain went away but I still suffer from lower back pain. For a long time I would see the doctor who did my surgery every six months and he would give me a mega shot of cortisone on each side of my lower back which helped the back pain. Since then we moved to Orlando about 130 miles away from the doctor, but now I do not drive since I use a walker. My family doctor has given me hydrocodone-acetaminophen 5/325 and it helps some. I also sometimes take tylenol. Is it safe to take it with the other medication? Thanks for any help you can give me. ## No, you should not combine Tylenol with the Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen, since they both contain Acetam...

Beserol was prescribed for me recently due to my spinal condition which showed via (x-rays) that the last four vertebrates were almost lying on each other. No separation between. Plenty pain. The Beserol prescribed: Reformulated methocarbamol 500mg, acetaminophen 350mg (white, oval-shaped tablets, 10 to a card). I am also placed on ibuprofen...Mydocalm, Omeprazole. The question: Is is OK to take Beserol in the breach, when the pain is on? ## The first problem I see here is that you really shouldn't be taking the Acetaminophen in the Beserol, with the Ibuprofen. They are both nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications, so there is really no need for 2 of them. It is very easy to overdose, by taking too much, plus taking them both can aggravate some of the severe side effects, such as...

I have had major back surgery. I had 4 fusions. I have 12 3" screws in me. I'm still in chronic pain. What is a good slow release pain medication for the day and something at night when I get home? ## Hello, Josh! How are you? There are actually several available, such as Oxycontin, which contains a time released formulation of Oxycodone. MS Contin, which is a time released formulation of Morphine and the Duragesic patch that contains the narcotic Fentanyl. These are narcotic analgesics, so they have the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Those are all options that you may want to discuss with your doctor. What are you currently taking? ## Much thanks for your response and info. I'm on ...

Hello, I was given Hysingla ER 30 mg once a day for pain but it only lasts 10 hours. Is this typical of this medication or is it a medication that needs to build up in you system over time? I really need some advice on this as I am really in pain. Thank you for your time, I appreciate it greatly. ## How long have you been taking it? It should last about 12 hours, but it can vary from person to person. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation.

I was in the hospital last year and was given a shot for pain right after surgery. I had a terrible reaction to the med. I would know the name if someone called it out, but don't seem to remember any other way. I almost died from the drug, I am having surgery on Tuesday and need to avoid that drug!! Could anyonegivealist of IM drugs? ## There are far too many to possibly list them all here for you. What type of reaction did you have? Learn more analgesic details here. What hospital did you have the surgery at? They should have that information listed in your records, so finding out what medication it was should be as simple as calling them to ask.

I recently had a major cervical and spine surgery. But still the pain is very severe with me taking 20mg of oxycodone every 3 hrs plus 1000 mg of Tylenol Extra every 6 hrs. What do you suggest? ## Hello, Salem! How are you? You may want to try asking your doctor about trying Oxycontin, it's a time released formulation of the Oxycodone that lasts for 12 hours, so it could give you better pain control. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

Injured under workers comp in Tallahassee Florida I was taking percocet and now my adjustor stopped me from seeing the doctor who was writing my pain meds does anyone know how I can get my medication and who can you report this adjustor to ## Workers comp can be quite the hassle, as I've seen from personal experience. My mom was actually going through a similar situation with her adjuster and eventually had to get an attorney to work with her on the legality of situations like this. Although I'm not completely familiar with the process involved in that, it's probably where'd I'd recommend starting if you're intent is to take action against your adjuster - in hopes of finding a new one. In the meantime, it sounds like you may also have to be open to trying other f...

I ave been recenetly told that I have p.a.d. I hvae had stents put into my upper left thigh, but my calf and toes are in constant pain. is there any thing short of surgery. I have tried Vicodin 500mg (Hydrocodone), and currently taking Oxycodone(Percocet 5mg, 325. the pain just will not go away. I really do not want anything stronger for fear of getting addicted. Is there medication short of surgery to help me out ## adding to my question about meds for P.A.D.. I have this pain at the bottom of my left foot, it even hurts to walk on carpet. Does lyrica make anyone's upper stomach ache after eating?, in the diaphragm area. Any other suggestions for facial nerve pain treatment? ## Have you talked to your doctor? That sounds like it could be either pancreatitis, gastritis or an ulcer, all of which could be cause or aggravated by such a medication. Only your doctor can help you determine for sure what it is and help you find a solution. Do you ever get heartburn or GERD?

First of all, I hate taking pain meds but I was almost completely bedridden for 2 yrs. They gave me my life back and I'll be grateful for the rest of my life. My insurance company dropped me right before I was gonna have surgery to get some relief. So I had no choice but to go with the pain meds. I've been on oxycodone 30/150 per month (5 a day) and MS Contin 200mg 2 times daily since 2009. Had breaks when I could. My point is, nobody knows what my daily life is like. I feel ashamed every month getting refills. Maybe it's in my head but the staff at the pharmacy gives me that "pill seeker" look. I guess all that matters is my doctor trusts me and he knows my complete history. I know I'm not taking them for fun. I'd much rather be normal. Can anyone relate to ...

"Purdue Pharma recently announced it is conducting clinical trials on OxyContin in children. Immediately some have criticized, suggesting that the exposure to opioids at an early age will inevitably lead to addiction later in life. The larger issue that was missed is that there are times opioids are necessary for children. Children in intensive care units, emergency rooms, post operatively or in rehab often require strong analgesics. These are children with cancer, with severe burns, with sickle cell anemia or other conditions. It would be cruel and inhumane to leave children untreated who experience extraordinary amounts of pain. Of course opioids should not be the first line of therapy if an alternative is available, but they may be the only way to provide relief. So the question ...

is there a topical pain medication for the knees that i can add to fentenyl patch ## Hello, Laura! How are you? Yes, there some available both via prescription and as over the counter products. However, you'll likely want to stay away from products such as Icy Hot, since they may raise your body temperature and cause problems with the patch. It would likely be best to check with your doctor to see what is safest for you to use. The FDA classifies Fentanyl as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

I am on 2 different meds (soma and Percocet) plus Xanax for extreme panic attacks. The soma is because I have at least two disintegrating discs and bad arthritis in my lower back. the Percocet (which I never even asked for, they just gave it to me) because I have bad arthritis in my knees, my hips my hands and my neck. I asked if there were any over the counter meds to help but because my kidneys are in bad shape I couldn't take anything like advil, ibuprofen or steroids. Also my nephrologisy has said that I need to keep my blood pressure down and when i'm in pain or having a panic attack (which happens several times a day) my BP goes up. now I have to practically beg for these meds and am treated like a drug addict UA's and all which is a pain because my husband has to take...

Sounds like Dulore. It's not Dulera for asthma. It's for pain. ## Was it possible Dilaudid or Demerol? Those are the only 2 I can think of that you might be referring to, since the names are quite often misunderstood. Both are classified by the FDA as narcotic analgesics, so they have the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Does anyone else have any ideas?

Please help!! ## Im out of my pain med and don't know what to do because i'm in so much pain rights now i'm crys ## I'm sorry Robert. I'm out too. I had to go on suboxone so I don't have withdrawals. It doesn't help my pain. I had to go this way until I find a doctor that will help me ## Good luck. Take to your prescribing doctor to see if they can help. It’s your only chance. ## Why did you not set this up before hand? You should have had your doctor connect you with someone where you live.
