The anticonvulsants (also commonly known as antiepileptic drugs) are a diverse group of pharmaceuticals used in the treatment of epileptic seizures. Anticonvulsants are also increasingly being used in the treatment of bipolar disorder, since many seem to act as mood stabilizers, and for the treatment of neuropathic pain. The goal of an anticonvulsant is to suppress the rapid and excessive firing of neurons that start a seizure. Failing this, an effective anticonvulsant would prevent the sprea...

nearing 50, and seem to be getting a few senior moments more often, I wont to start taking neurostin and want to know if it really works and is it worth the cost?? ## I have the same questions. I can't seem to find any testimonials from anyone who has tried it. ## Neurostin is an over the counter product, a supplement, touted, but thus NOT PROVEN to help with memory loss. ## Is anyone out there taking something that actually does work? If so, what is it? ## please dont. i am 26 and have taken it for 1.5yrs in the last 2 weeks of reducing this i have experienced such extreme anxiety, memory and cognition problems, i hope it gets better. ## @ Donna... Morphine user 145 ER, Norco 10/325 6 per day for a severed ulnar nerve for 23 years. Just had a neurostimulator implanted and weened down so far to 30mg am and 15mg afternoon with prn Norco, 3-5 daily. I'm taking weening slowly but the answer to a lot of the above problems could be solved by use of a neurostimulator. ## I am very glad that it's helping you, and reducing your dependence on the medications, however, as with everything else, it isn't viable for everyone that's in pain, and it doesn't work for everyone that tries it. Ref: Deep Brain Stimulation Information The FDA warns that opiates, such as Morphine, and Norco, carry the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. Hello there! So I've been suffering in back pain because of neurofibromatosis type 1. the pain is killing especially during night time... My prime doc is on vacation at the moment, so I can't see him for pain meds until beginning of Feb. however, I have appt with neruo doctor on jan 15. it's my first time seeing him for it due to changing from children doc to adult doc. so would this neuro doc prescribe me pain meds? or will he make me wait until my prime doc comes back from his vacation? thank you ## Hello, Teddie! How are you? Most likely, your neuro will take over, that's the way it's supposed to work now under the new regulations that were put in place last year. Specialists are supposed to be the ones prescribing such medications, not your GP. Is there anything ...

after taking 4 tablets of telday 20 mg , my 80 year old mother is feeling drowsy for next ten days. She already had a neurosurgery 13 yeaqrs and is under medication for 13 years ## Telday contains the active ingredient Telmisartan, it is an ARB that is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure. Drowsiness can be a common side effect of the medication, along with dizziness, headache and stomach pain and the side effects will usually last for about 4 to 6 weeks, while her body adjusts to the medication, before they begin to taper off. In addition, if she was used to her blood pressure being high, then the very act of lowering it will cause her to feel some drowsiness and fatigue, until her body gets used to it. You said she took 4 tablets, do you mean she stopped taking it after tha...

I have severe chronic back pain. A neurosurgeon prescribed Hydrocodone-apap 10/325mgs tablets to be taken every 8 hours. I am finding that my pain diminishes 1 to 1/2 hour after taking one tablet. Can I take 1 tablet more often, i.e., every four hours? ## Have you consulted your doctor, or the neurosurgeon? Hydrocodone with Acetaminophen, the active ingredients in Vicodin, is a narcotic opiate pain medication, so while there are times it is appropriate to take it more often, sometimes as often as every 6 hours, you should not do so, without checking with your physician. Learn more about Vicodin Details ## I agree with Verwon. Talk to your doctor. You should not increase your medication dosage without his express consent. If you find the Hydrocodone 10/325mgs isn't controlling your p...

I had a back surgery 17 years ago. that was not successful. My Neurosurgeon prescribed my 2 tabs of ULTRAM 50 with 2 tylenols, every 4 hours. For 15 years Ultram helped my pain. During the last two years, ULTRAM is not helping as good. TRAMADOL is useless for me. I need some equally strong pain killer as ULTRAM 50 mg. ## Hello, Karnail! How are you? Ultram contains Tramadol as the active ingredient, so they are the same thing. However, there is a higher dosage available that you may want to ask your doctor about trying. It is available in 100mg tablets, as well as the 50mg ones. The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else ...

I was treated for Lumbago shortly before back surgery ( Fusion + Laminectromy) I also took 2x 10mg/day Urbanol in the weeks before for stress. I stopped the Urbanol on admission to hospital. I took prescribed 8 mg/day Zefo tablets for 8 days untill the day before my operation and stopped it since my children said I acted weirdly after taking them. I am 67 years old. I found that there was acute numbness in both legs 5½ weeks after the operation when I ripped off my surgical stockings. This persists up to today 14 weeks later. Neurosurgen had no comments on 6 or 12 weeks - says he is satisfied. I think possibly Urbanol withdrawal symptoms. I also took Arcoxia tablets for pain in the hipbone from about 10 days after the operation in stead of Tramacet (causing extreme constipation). An...

I'm trying to buy GabaMax - Neuroscience, but can't find it. I would like to know if it is discontinued and if so, why??? ## I'm sorry, but I don't have any information for you. Since this is an over the counter supplement, they are not required to inform anyone, including the FDA, if they choose to stop manufacturing and selling it. I tried to find a website, or some type of information for you to contact the company, but I can't find anything on that, either. Have you tried asking your pharmacist to help you find a comparable product?

My neurosurgeon told me to avoid NSAIDS or anything that will thin my blood because I am scheduled for surgery in 6 days. I am in excruciating pain because I had to stop taking Voltaren. I have a topical solution that has Ketopro 10%, cyclobenzaprine 1% and lidocaine 5%. I can't get in touch with the mail order pharmacy. Does anyone know, if any of those will cause blood thinning? Thank you! ## Yes, the Ketopro stands for Ketoprofen, which is an NSAID, so it should be avoided, before surgery, according to your doctor's instructions. The FDA lists its other typical side effects, when used topically, as possibly including headache, skin redness, irritation, and flaking. Is there anything else I can help with?
