Blood pressure (BP), sometimes referred to as arterial blood pressure, is the pressure exerted by circulating blood upon the walls of blood vessels, and is one of the principal vital signs. During each heartbeat, blood pressure varies between a maximum (systolic) and a minimum (diastolic) pressure.[1] The blood pressure in the circulation is principally due to the pum...

As a teenage girl I was obviously self conscious about my body. I had been on dexamethasone twice before and the side effects were minimal. There was the increased appetite and the road rage. I had not gained weight or anything. My disorder pops up for a third time, this time quicker than ever, and once again I'm back on the roids. I figured this time I would try to change for the better. When I did have my increased appetite I ate healthy foods instead of fatty greasy things. I constantly drank water and did everything to prevent gaining weight. As the weeks gradually progressed I felt something different in my face. I felt a tight pressure and my skin tightening. It actually hurt to smile. One day it finally happened. I could not fit into my pants. One day I could and suddenly get...

Im on prexum 4mg 3 days back i took my pill and just bout 15 minits later i passed out is it possible that my b/pressure were normal and the pill brought it down to fast, can your b/pressure go back to normal again? ## How long have you been on it? If you're blood pressure has been at normal levels on this dose, it's possible that the dose is now too high and you may need to take a lower one. Usually, higher doses are used at first, to bring someone's blood pressure down as fast as possible, then the doctor should be monitoring them regularly and they should be checking it themselves, so the dosage can be adjusted as needed. Learn more Prexum details here. When I first go out of the hospital, I was on quite a few different medications and was taking 33 pills a day, but that ...

I was on concor 5 and lnblock 20 in the morning with aquazide 12.5 (half in the morning) and minipress 2.5 xl and alfusin d for my prostrate at night. My blood pressure was fine for three years but suddenly it shot to 170/97. The dr has changed my medication now to metasartan (40/50) from concor. I am worried that this may further disturb my blood pressure levels? ## Your blood pressure will always fluctuate, depending on your activity levels, the time of day it is checked, what you've eaten, and etc. It will never stay at one steady level all the time. The NIH lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. Has there been any change, yet?

BP is under control, but is the combination ok? ## You should take them, if your doctor has instructed you to do so. Multiple medications are often prescribed, if someone's blood pressure is very high, to try to bring it down as fast and as safely as possible. When I first had congestive heart failure, I as on quite a few medications, until my blood pressure was lowered to better levels. The NIH lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have ben taking Co Diovan for HBP for a year and a week ago was admited to the ICU for a ministroke and blood pressure over 200. Is it possible that Co Diovan (not on other medications) is responsible for this? ## Co-Diovan contains the active ingredients Valsartan and Hydrochlorothiazide and is commonly used to help lower high blood pressure. As to what you experienced, with a BP reading of over 200, it is more than likely that your blood pressure being so high is what is responsible and not likely the medication. Mini strokes and full blown strokes are just some of the hazards associated with ones blood pressure being out of control and high. It's possible that after a year of using the medication, your body had adjusted to it and it is no longer working as well to control your ...

My blood pressure is 178/102, I take Metroporal Succinate 25 mg & Lisionopril 20 mg, which one should I increase to lower my bp? ## Hello, Lisa! How are you? How long have you been taking them? Do you also watch your diet to minimize your salt and fat intake? According to the NIH, they can both contributed to high blood pressure levels. You shouldn't adjust any medication, without your doctor's approval. The U.S. FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. What time of day do you check your blood pressure? Is this reading before, or after taking the medications?

I got a new blood pressure medication today. The pharmacy did not put child proof caps on my medicine like I have requested the last 6 years. Well, half of my Labetalol 100 mg spilled on the floor. All are accounted for except for one. I looked everywhere but could not find it. If my 10 yr old 16 pound minischnauzer finds and eats it, will it kill or harm her? (Note: my dog eats pills like they are treats.) ## I see this was posted a few months ago, so I hope all is well and your dog didn't get ill. What is the generic form of prazosin, or prazosin alternatives/substitutes (when prescribed for PTSD or anxiety)? ## Prazosin is also minnipress, I've been on it for years for PTSD and it works wonderful ## @Debbie, Minipress is the brand/trade name and Prazosin is the generic name. As far as alternatives go, Prazosin is an "alpha blocker" - [which according to NIH is indicated for treating hypertension], so looking into other drugs of the same classification may be your best bet. The way it lowers blood pressure is by relaxing blood vessels. So I'd imagine that this mechanism is what would have a direct effect on anxiety or PTSD. I don't believe all blood pressure meds work in the same manner (e.g. beta blockers / diuretics), but it goes without sayin' that lowe...
