I have been taking Tecta for a year or so ! I just visited the health canada site and they advise that this drug should not be prescribed for longer then 6 to 8 weeks? Why was I not advised of that from my doctor..Lately I have been experiencing heart palpitations. I remember being on a drug prepulsit and having the same symptoms and then finding out that this drug was linked to heart problems ..I am determined to find another solution to my acid problem does anybody have any solutions besides drugs ??? Thanks, ## HI, Aurele! How are you? Yes, these medications are only intended for short term use. Studies have shown that long term use can cause an increased risk of hip fractures. As to solutions that don't involve drugs, it really depends what you were taking it to treat. I can be ...

I have been on xalkori for about a year now; diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer that mets to the pancreas. Lately, I have been waking up in the middle of the night with really bad acid reflux... wondering if anyone else taking Xalkori has experienced this. ## I have been on Xalkori for 8 months and i have sometimes experienced acid reflux as well, my doctor said he wasn't sure Xalkori could be blamed for that. I have noticed that the reflux mainly happens when I have a heavy meal for dinner. So what i do now is that i drink a glass of water with a little baking soda before going to bed and it seems to work well against the acidity in the stomach. Moreover, I put an extra pillow under my head and it's much better like this. I think that a light dinner can partly solve the proble...

I went to the hospital on March 21, and had the doctor look at me. He did blood work and x-rays and both came back fine and normal. He said I had a viral infection. I do not know which viral infection it is, unfortunately. He prescribed me Prantoprazole for a full month of 2 pills a day for 15 days, and then 1 pill a day for another 15 days. The prescription will only last a month, no refills. Ever since using Protonix on March 22 when I started the medication, the only symptom my body has been really facing is diarrhea. I had hamburgers on March 24, but about 10-15 minutes later I had yellow diarrhea and it was floating. I haven't been eating much either since the symptoms of my sickness or even while on the medication. My stomach was feeling fine earlier today, March 25, but I had...

For acid reflux I was administered with Topzole today. Some 9hours later I started itching under the armpits. A few years ago I had a similar reaction after taking some medication - however I do not recall what I took. It was so severe that I was given cortisone. Does Topzole have this effect on individuals? In the previous instance I came out in little bumps. So far TG no bumps just unpleasant itching. I have taken celestamine to combat the itch. Could it be Topzole? ## Hello, Susie! How are you? There's always a chance that any medication could cause an allergic reaction, so yes, it could be from the Topzole. Although it is very unusual to have it occur only under the arms, normally an allergic reaction from taking something orally would encompass your whole body. Have you consult...

I am a 56 year old woman that was giving omeprozole for acid reflux and gerd. It really did help. I thought it was the best thing ever until here 1 1/2 years later, the Dr was sending me to a heart specialist because my heart rate has climbed so high as well as my blood pressure. I've also had incontinence this year that has made my life miserable. Little did I know until reading more about the omeprazole that all of these problems had come from taking it. I stopped the omeprazole and with in days my heart rate begin to come down, from 123 beats per minute to 87 bpm. My blood pressure also dropped into a normal range, and the best thing is no more incontinence. I didn't realize this medication was causing all of this mess. My Dr. tried to say it wasn't the omeprazole, but th...

I was given a 10 prescription of bactrim by my doctor for a sinus infection because I had taken it twice before. Around the third day my tongue started burning so I went back to my doctor and because I suffer from acid reflux my doctor thought thats want was causing the burning of my tongue. Well on the 7th day I took bactrim, about 20 minutes later my stomach, chest, mouth, nose and lips started burning like fire! I haven't taken any more bactrim for the last couple days but still feel the burning but not quite as bad. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this? Thanks! ## Hello, Paul! How are you? I'm very sorry about what you've experienced. No, that is not something listed among the typical side effects, as listed by the FDA, they usually include symptoms such as nau...

A woman in her late seventies had the upper portion of her stomach wrapped around her lower esophagus to help with her acid reflux. Now with a feeding tube and taking Osmolite, she continues to suffer from heartburn and also diarrhea. She is very weak. Are there any alternatives to Osmolite; preferably non-dairy? ## Her doctor should really be consulted about this.

I've been on Dexilant 60mg for almost 3 years now for Barret's esophagus. My recent endoscopy showed that my Barret's has cleared up. But the doctor said to contune the Dexilant for now. I've read that long term use of PPIs can lead to bone loss and i already have osteopenia so i asked the doctor to maybe lower my dose since i contnue to have acid reflux. I've been on the 30 mg for 3 days now and i'm having a lot of acid reflux. I would like to go back to the 60 mg and asked the doctor but it was late friday afternoon and no one answered my call. My question is, can i take 2 of the 30 mg dexilant instead of 1 60 mg, since i don't have the 60 mg anymore? ## Yes, it would be the same as taking a 60mg. The rebound reflux is normal and will happen if you abruptly...

Flew off the bed one morning, heart pounding, grabbed my jaw which felt hard as a rock. My left arm hurting and tingling with clammy hands. Saw one dr, had an ekg, all normal. She said it seemed like acid reflux because i would burp and the pressure on my chest would subside. Couple of days later I saw another dr because of the same issue but it lasted longer this time. He sends me to the er, told me i had a uti and was dehydrated. Sent me home one week later and my heart rate was fast again. Saw a cardiologist who prescribed carvedilol 6.25mg twice daily. Did an echo, stress, holt monitor for 24 hours. Test came back that my heart is doing what it needs to do and that i have a healthy strong heart. Only thing was holt showed an extra beat. He said it was normal and that usually everyon...
