Laxatives (purgatives, aperients) are foods, compounds or drugs taken to loosen the stool, most often taken to treat constipation. Certain stimulant, lubricant and saline laxatives are used to evacuate the colon for rectal and/or bowel examinations, and may be supplemented by enemas under certain circumstances. Sufficiently high doses of laxatives may cause diarrhea. Laxatives work to increase the movement of feces along the colon.[1] Some laxatives combine more than one active ingredient. La...

I am looking for the name of a Laxative. They are hard deep red coloured round pills. Aprox 7mm across. It was a laxative but came off the shelves in the UK about 10-12 years ago. I heard they may have rebranded with a herbal version. They came in a foil blister pack. I think the outer packaging was green and the name began with a N although i cant be sure of this. ## Were they shaped like an american football? There is a medicine for stool softening agent, slightly gentler than a laxative, called colace that matches your description. it is sold over the counter in the USA, and you can research this to see if it matches what you seek.

I take 90 to 120 mgs of morphine daily for pain control (30mg tablets). I have maintained this dose consistently (2+ Years). I've taken magnesium citrate as a laxative in the past-10 oz per dose (1.75 per fl oz) as needed. It usually does the job. Brand name is Citroma by Swan. Is a continued weekly or biweekly use of this product recommended? I would like to eliminate or reduce usage of other laxatives. ## Hello, Jerry! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem you're having. Actually, there are specific warnings that state magnesium citrate is not safe for chronic, or long-term use. It's typical side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include gas, diarrhea, stomach cramps and bloating. If you need something for long-term use, it would be best to discuss it with...

my mother is diabetes n she gets constipation can she take LACTITOL MONOHYDRATE that is torbulk.she doesnt want to take it as it is sweet does it lead to diabetes. ## Hi gels, From what I've researched, Lactitol can be used to treat chronic constipation. And further digging led me to details implying that Lactitol may actually be beneficial for people with diabetes, since it carries a low glycemic index and hasn't been reported to affect blood glucose/insulin levels. The only contraindication I found is for those patients who are hypersensitive to Lactitol or any of the inactive ingredients that might be added to it. I hope this helps!

can i take gentilax if im pregnant for consipation? ## Hi miriam, According to a clinical trial posted on PubMed, "phenolphthalein treatment in pregnant women associates with a higher risk for Hirschsprung's disease in their children, but this finding is only a signal which needs confirmation or rejection in other studies." NOTE: this drug is labeled under Pregnancy "Category C" meaning - Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks. With all that said, I would probably consider some (natural) dietary options for treating constipation as opposed to any prescription medications. Just to p...

Has anyone in the US used this yet for colonscopy and what did it cost? ## I've used this Prep and it was wonderful. It tasted like orange soda and was very small. I undergo routine colonoscopies and have now finally found my prep of choice because it taste great and is tiny. Suprep & Moviprep = YUK!!! ## Thanks, Johnny, was that in the US? and what did it cost? I really don't care if it is easy to use. I may need to convince my Gastro in some way. ## I used prepopik yesterday. It tastes like unsweetened lemonade with LOTS of artificial sweetener. Like lemon koolaid without sugar. Texture is good though, not thick or slimey. Mix with refridgerated cold water, not tap water and stir well. Drink with a straw. Brush your teeth and tongue after drinking to get rid of taste. I took two laxatives yesterday and experienced bad diarrhea that night really late. I experienced the bad diarrhea again in the morning twice. it's a lot and watery. is this normal? ## Hello, Kate! How are you? If you took laxatives, then yes, that can be normal side effects of most of them, as reported by the FDA, that's what laxatives do. You may also experience nausea, stomach cramps and gas. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have a green pill with L2 engraved on it. Is this a Laxative or an anti diarrhea medication? ## I found two small oval pills, light green with L2 engraved on one side, and a cut line on the other side. These were on the floor, and they aren't mine. I was wondering what they are so I may be able to find out who dropped them here, and then yell at them because I have a preschooler at home. :) ## Yes, you are correct, they are an anti-diarrheal tablet, a generic or store brand Imodium.

I take 1 Metoprolol every day. I have for two years. I need to take a laxative and wanted to make sure that was ok. The active ingredient in the laxative is Sennoside. ## There any problems or interactions that I can find listed between the two, but you should make sure to take them a few hours apart. Otherwise, if you take them too close together, you do run the risk of not having the Metoprolol in your stomach and digestive tract long enough for it to be absorbed and used by your body. Learn more Metoprolol details here. And it's always wise to double check this information, just to be certain. Is there anything else I can help with?

I take gentilax recently but I'm scared of reading all this reviews about the carcinogenic effect that this homeopathic pill has. Can someone explain me a little bit more of this? should i still take it? BEST ADVICE NEEDED PLEASE. ## Replying to lopes isabel: In the 1990's scientists overdosed laboratory rats giving them dosages of phenolphthalein hundreds and thousands of times higher than what a human would normally take. In my opinion, this slanted the findings of their tests. Just look in the past times that since phenolphthalein was first used as a laxative in 1906, millions upon millions of people have taken it over the years and they've been perfectly fine. I've had many friends and family members who used phenolpthalein laxatives regularly back in the days when i...

I'm having problems with constipation but am afraid to take a laxative with rivaroxaban. Please let me know what can be used? ## Hello Charlie, This matter would be best addressed by your primary care physician. Even if I gave you the name of a brand that would not have any adverse effects with rivaroxaban it would still be risky because I don't have access to your medical records/history and it would be blind advise that could have a seriously negative impact on you. My suggestion is simply call your doctor, they can pull up your records and then make a rather quick referral and you could rest assured that this medication will not only work with rivaroxaban but also with you particularly. Sorry this wasn't as helpful as you wanted but I would hate to see you get hurt from b...

What is the very best laxative I can use when taking narcotic pain relievers? Please be detailed. ## I get horrible constipation, when I take them and the only thing I've found that really helps is a fiber supplement. There are many available over the counter, but that might be right for you. It really depends on your overall health, and any other medications you might be taking. The FDA warns that they can also cause diarrhea, and abdominal cramping. Has your medical provider suggested anything?

This tablet is manufactured by Apotex and they list it as containing 5mgs of Bisacodyl and that's exactly what it is, it's a laxative. The U.S. FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, stomach cramps and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

I read an article on-line that said methylparaben and bisacodyl are ratio-morphine ingredients in Dulcolax tablets. I am mainly trying to find out if any of the ingredients in Dulcolax tablets have morphine in them. ## Hello, Verna! How are you? I think the person that wrote the article was somewhat confused, because there is no Morphine in Dulcolax. Learn more Dulcolax details here. As a matter of fact, Ratio-Morphine actually refers to the Morphine that's manufactured by a specific pharmaceutical company, Ratiopharm and this is how generics are referred to in Canada, instead of just calling them Morphine, or Oxycodone, they use the company name, so other medications may be dispensed as APO-Tramadol and etc. Bisacodyl is a distant derivative of methane, so perhaps they misunderstoo...
