Is Oxycodone 5 Stronger Than Hydrocodone 10 Mg

I have been on Norco 10/325 for 7 years for chronic pain and disc problems. Needless to say they quit working. Dr just switched me to Percocet 10. Is this stronger and will it help my pain? ## Hi Bridget, Sorry to hear about your situation. To answer your question though, YES, the 10mgs of Oxycodone contained in Perocet 10/325 is reported to be more potent than 10mgs of Hydrocodone in Norco 10/325. As to how much stronger it is, answers do vary... but from what I've researched, it's analgesic effects appear to be about 1.5-3x stronger. &I have been on hydrocodone 10 /325 : 4 to 5 times a day taken 1 every 6 hours. I've taken it for 6 years. In the beginning it worked great for my breakthrough pain but eventually it stopped being as effective, so my doctor switched me to 10 milligrams of oxycodone hcl 3 times a day Just recently but 10 milligrams did not seem to be enough,So I began taking 20 milligrams in the morning and 20 milligrams in the evening sometimes needing 10 milligrams during the night if I wake up in pain. I'm trying to manage pain for degenerative stenosis and see that hydrocodone is usually in 5 or 10 mg pills, while oxy, which is supposedly 2+ times stronger, is in 20 , 30 or 40 mg pills. So I'd put my bet on the oxycodone being stronger than the vicodin. Although I'd also imagine that its effects on each patient will be largely influenced by individual tolerance, pain threshold, severity of the condition, and other personal factors. Oxycodone in my research seems to be the next step up the latter, but some chronic pain patients may feel that Tramadol, Morphine, Opana, or Dilaudid would be better alternatives. I for one have never taken anything other than Hydrocodone and Morphine in the realm of narcotic analgesics, so I can only go off charts on the web and my own experience, which tells me that Morphine provided greater relief than Hydrocodone after a nose surgery I had done several years ago.
