I have been having anxiety attacks for over a year. Mydoctor has prescribed both Buspar and Lorazepam. The Lorazepam seems to work better than the buspar. I am concerned that this drug may be addictive. Can you help? ## Yes, this is a Benzodiazepine, they are very addictive. That is why a lot of docs will no longer prescribe them except in extreme circumstances and many insurances will not longer cover them, either. Lorazepam is the generic for Ativan. Here is a page with some more information, and I will also copy in the relevant sections here for you, in case you do not have time to look it all over. Lorazepam-Drugs.com Lorazepam is habit forming. You can become physically and psychologically dependent on the medication. Do not take more than the prescribed amount of medication or ta...

Looking for ideas of alternative anxiety treatments other than benzodiazepenes. I do not know if I can be prescribed benzos due to my medical history. I was wondering if anybody had any ideas or other alternatives that I may ask my doctor about? ## BuSpar is an option, the FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and weight loss. It is not considered addictive. Many SSRI and SSNRI antidepressants can also treat anxiety. It really depends on which one works best for you. Are you on any other medications?

I was diagnosed with a severe anxiety disorder and major depression in 1994. After being on Ativan and Xanex, in 2007 my prescribing doctor switched me to Klonopin. She claimed it was not as addictive as the other 2 and easier to get off of. I am living proof that this is not true. After attempting suicide in June 2012, I began seeing a psychiatrist. She played around with many different meds for insomnia and depression. She decided to stop my Klonopin completely w/o tapering me off. She put me on 60 mg of Prozac and Buspar 2x daily. I had complained on my last 2 monthly visits that I was not feeling right at all, I was experiencing a lot of deja vu and weird thoughts. She changed nothing. In June 2013 I called her office on a Monday and requested to see her, stating I was feeling very ...

Please research but positive that this truly what it is. ## I have taken Xanax for years. I take (1) 1 mg a day. I have insomnia, extreme anxiety, and panic attacks. I have a son with Asperger's Syndrome, I can not have panic attacks when dealing with me. It's very stressful dealing with him. I do not have an addictive personally. I ca...
