I have a brand new bottle Advil (ibuprofen) unopened with the seal still intact with an expiration date of may 2010 are they still good? ## @Jackie, There's actually a lot of conflicting information around the topic of expired medication, but according to a Harvard Medical School family health article, except in rare cases (i.e. tetracycline), there is little chance of danger due to taking medications even up to 15 years beyond their expiration date. This conclusion was based upon a study conducted at the request of the US military due to stockpiles of expensive drugs they could otherwise need to replace every few years. The conclusion was that 90% of those drugs remained effective 10 - 15 years after the expiration date. I don't know whether or not the drug you have happens to ...

you note that generic meds can be marked same as proprietery "other" meds. how to be sure what I have? ## Hello, Dr Dre! How are you? No, the generic cannot be marked the same. It has to have its own unique markings that allow it to be identified according to drug, dosage and manufacturer. Can you post back with a description of the tablet in question, as well as its markings? If so, I will gladly check it for you. Thanks!

I cannot take ibuprofin because it causes severe insomnia for me. I bought diclofenaco sodico in Mexico for help with my pain from a bunionectomy but am afraid to take it because someone on this string said it's like ibuprofin. Another friend told me that it's the same as Tylenol. Are either of these true? ## The active ingredient in this medication is Diclofenac Sodium, which is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory, so it is in the same drug class as Ibuprofen. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding, and stomach irritation. However, that doesn't mean it will cause the same problem for you that Ibuprofen did, but there is also a chance that it will. Is there anything else I can help with?

I've been on 15 mg meloxicam daily for six mo. How much ibuprofen would equal one 15 mg meloxicam ? I would like to take less ibuprofen and get some relief, without taking as much nsaid. Thanks Jim. ## Hello, Jim! How are you? Both of these medications are NSAIDs with the same risks, so you might as well take the Meloxicam as prescribed. Common side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache and stomach irritation. Is there anything else I can help with?

I am taking 800 mg of ibuprofin 3 times daily. Good relief. Doc prescribed indomethacin 50 mg for gout. Is there an ingredient in indomethacin thats not in ibuprofin that gout respons to fo eventual relief supposedly 3 to 4 days. ## Hello, Berny! How are you? They are both nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories, but the Indomethacin is much stronger. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and stomach irritation. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have Hifenac-P100mg with Paracetamol-325mg and Compifalm 500mg. I am having pain in the heels and slight swelling .I have taken compiflam twice a dayfor three days. But the pain is still there. Shall I take Hifenac tablets for better effect? ## You should take whatever medication your doctor has instructed you to take. They both carry the risk of causing the same side effects, which the NIH lists as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and stomach irritation. Are you on any other medications?

I used this cream for an allergic reaction to an antibiotic a few months ago at the suggestion of a pharmacist. (I livein Mexico). Now I have an allergic reaction to Ibuprofen that looks the same - red blotches on my face and chest. Will it work for this, too? ## Hi Lilly, Based on my research, Clotrimazole/betamethasone cream can be used to relieve redness, itching, and swelling due to infection. It is a combination of an anti fungal and corticosteroid- which can help to reduce inflammation and help prevent the release of symptom-causing chemicals due to an allergic reaction. Antibiotics are very strong in relation to Ibuprofen, therefore, if this cream worked for a reaction you had to an antibiotic I imagine that it could also help you with the allergic reaction that Ibuprofen caused....

I need a strong enough pain pill to kill the pain in neck and down the back. Have already had two lumbar surgeries and am getting shots all over but they don't last please, please, help me to find a doctor who will give me a strong enough pain pill for severe, severe pain. ## Hello, Joanne! How are you doing? I am very sorry that you're in so much pain. Can you please post back with your general location? That would enable someone to suggest a good doctor in your area, if they know of the one. Thanks! ## Have you tried Heat? A Hot Pack, heating pad, hot water bottle, moist heat? give it a try! And are you able to see a chiropractor? If not, dig into your pockets and try 2 sessions of Acupunture; at least 2 weeks apart.

I have some IBuprofin. 800 and can u take 2 at a time for severe back pain ## Dear Redfire, I would not recommend taking more then one at a time. Taking one is like taking 4 Advil, so taking 2 is like taking 8 Advil. It could cause problems with you're stomach, not 2 mention dangerous effects. ## The maximum recommended dosage of Ibuprofen for adults is listed at 800mgs, to be taken four times daily. Given the increased risk of side effects, it probably would end up doing more harm than good if you were to take two of these. One thing I would suggest trying as a form of adjunctive therapy is essential oils. Many of them are really great at relieving sore muscles and aches. I find combinations like Lavender and Peppermint oil to have excellent anti-inflammatory effects as well. You c...

What is this used for? Is it just a very strong aspirin? ## Ibuprofin, 600 mg. Yes, it's just a very strong ibuprofin tablet. Over the counter dose is 200 mg. Pain reliever, fever reducer. ## NO NOT A VERY STRONG ASPIRIN This would be equivelent to a very strong ADVIL! And yes, it is prescription strength. Ibuprofen Info Click Here ## Aspirin is something totally different, it is Acetylsalicylic Acid.

Arthritis Neck pain is pretty intense. Was prescribed Ibuprofin 800s and pharm said to take four Advils. Been taking four in the morning and four at night for a couple weeks now. Hearing about kidney issues..what is another way to ease the pain of arthritis in the neck? Is TENS therapy something I should consider? And what is your opinion on the units being sold in drugstores these days? ## Hello, Jefflaur! How are you? Are you having kidney issues? Do you have kidney disease? If so, there's likely not much reason to worry about it, at this point. Such medications can also affect your liver, but there's no need to stop taking them, unless your doctor has instructed you to do so. As to alternatives, there are actually many available, but you'd need to discuss your options wit...

I have oval shaped pills that have stamped on them IP465, ARE THESE MOTRIN OR IBUPROFIN? ## Motrin is Ibuprofen, it is just a name brand for it, but Ibuprofen is the active ingredient in it. The tablet you have is a generic for Motrin, which contains 600mgs of Ibuprofen, so it is a prescription only strength. Is there anything else I can help with?

I just took amitriptylin 10 mg about 4 hours ago and am having shoulder pain. Can I take some ibuprofin? ## I didn't find any interactions listed, but you should check with your doctor, or pharmacist to be certain. Since they can both cause drowsiness and dizziness as side effects, these may be more severe if you take them both, so you should be aware of that and make sure you aren't driving or doing anything that requires high alertness, until you are sure about the effects they have on you. Are there any other questions or comments?

I have a lot of different illness and pain, I used to take tylonol ibuprofin etc, but started taking warfarin 5mg to thin blood and now they say i cannot take pain pills that also thin the blood. Q. what can I take for pain that will not interfere?? ## Hi Martha, From what I've read, Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen are two types of pain medications that do not thin the blood in and of themselves. So the OTC meds you were on prior to starting Warfarin are both fine in that regard. However, I would still recommend talking with your doctor first just to be on the safe side. You can learn more about this drug on the page for Warfarin Details Have you also considered looking into things like acupuncture or essential oils for additional pain relief? ## But I have a read that ibuprofen can mak...

I bought supposebly bought peach xanax and it has the number 10/10 and 2/0 on the other side. I got hopped on loratabs and found they were ibuprofin. What did I buy? ## Hello raul, Based on the description provided, I've identified your pill to be Citalopram hydrobromide (20 mg). Manufacturer: Torrent Pharmaceuticals National Drug Code (NDC): 13668-0010 NOTE: for your own reference, this pill happens to be oval-shaped as opposed to being 'bar-shaped'. Similar to Xanax, Citalopram is an antidepressant drug used to treat major depression associated with mood disorders. It is also used on occasion in the treatment of body dysmorphic disorder and anxiety.

i found an unmarked box of these white, oblong shaped pills under my living room couch. They kind of remind me of whtat looks like an ibuprofin 800 but this pill has no score mark or markings of any sort on either side. If someone could help me out with this that would be great. ## If there are no markings, we can rule it out as being a prescription medication, because they are all required to have markings to enable their identification, in case of emergency. That means it's most likely an over the counter product and the opens it up to several possibilities. I actually have a bottle of calcium tablets sitting here that resembles this. But there are quite a few other things it could be as well, but being that large, I do think it's some type of supplement. Does anyone else have...

I was wondering what this pill is used for? It is oblong, gray on one side and white on the other. The number on the pill is p449 and the number is on the gray side. It is not a capsule. ## I am almost 100% sure this is Robax Platinum (500mg methocarbamol, 200 mg Ibuprofin) I use these for muscle strains and they really do a good job at easing the pain without making you feel "loopy". ## Jenny may be right, as I have come across a small pill image of Robax Platinum depicting a half white, half gray oblong pill associated with their product packaging. However I also noticed a score line on the pill and it wasn't clear enough to determine what the markings were (if any). Also, please correct me if I'm wrong, but Robax Platinum appears to be a Canadian medication. Just some...
