I have been on Levothyroxine (100mcg) for over a year and half. Recently my doctor had me tested to see where my thyriod level was. Aparently I tested a little hyperthyroid (although I didn't notice any symptoms) so she reduced the dosage to 75mcg. That was about 5 weeks ago. Since then I have been gaining weight and struggling to have energy to workout, although I'm forcing myself to keep my same workout routine. I didn't have to force myself before. Has anyone experienced this? I'm supposed to get tested again after being on the 75mcg for 8 weeks. Is the 25mcg difference that big a difference? I ## Yes, it can make a big difference. Your body was used to the prior dosage and you suddenly switched to a lower one, so basically your are experiencing some mild withdrawal s...

iS THIS A THYROID PILL AND DOES ITCAUSE WEIGHT GAIN? DOES IT MAKE YOU NOT ABLE TO SLEEP AT NIGHT? ## To answer your first question, yes, this is a thyroid medication. And because this medication speeds up an under active thyroid, "weight loss" is generally what one would experience as a result. As far as side effects go, dosing must be carefully controlled to achieve TSH levels within the normal reference range. Long-term suppression of TSH values below normal values will frequently cause cardiac side-effects and contribute to decreases in bone mineral density (high TSH levels are also well known to contribute to osteoporosis). Patients prescribed too high a dose of levothyroxine may experience effects that mimic hyperthyroidism; which can definitely cause someone to stay awake ...

I have been on methimazole for approx. 4 yrs after being diagnosed w/ graves disease in 2011. My doc wanted me to take nuclear medicine, but i'm avoiding that as I don't want the "pop eyes" etc, along with it. I am on 15 mgs of methimazole down from 20 mgs 2 months ago. For 4 yrs I have gone from hyperthyroid to hypothyroid; back & forth & back & forth; major weight gain- from 120 lbs to 170lbs in 4yrs- cannot seem to lose the weight. Help!!! ## Hello, Judi! How are you doing? I'm sorry about the problems you're having.
