Hydrocodone Replacement

Is there another over counter pill same as hydrocodone ## Hello, Mary! How are you? No, there is no over the counter replacement in the U.S. Hydrocodone is a narcotic, so it requires a prescription and doctor's regular monitoring. The FDA warns that it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have been taking hydrocodone for leg problems an back.I recently had esopugus cancer but bear it.The funny thing I had a me I for my back and it barely showed anything. Now I am starting to think my stomach is the main problem. Is there any over the counter meds to replace my 10/325 hydrocodone I haven't found nothing yet.thx mike ## There is nothing OTC that will help the pain like what you've been.taking. Talk to your Dr. ## I can't attest to whether or not it's true, but I've heard speculation that certain strains of Kratom were probably the closest type of OTC alternative you can get to the analgesic effects of opioids.. This is not to say that it'll have anywhere near the same type of effect on your individual pain levels/tolerance to various treatment proto...

I have used hydrocodone for more than 15 yrs, due to lupus and fibromyalgia. I want to get off it and was wondering: if I go into detox, will they then put me on drug replacement therapy? I take 30-40 mg of hydro./day (3-4 Norco) but I don't go buy pills or dr. shop - that is my RX ## I would recomend cymbalta it works for depression anxiety and fibromyalgia. So it works for the pain strangley enough and puts you in a good mood not like other antidepresants. I would recomend to keep some of the norcos or a lesser narcotic for breakthrough pain for say the morning or night when the pain is at it's worst. ## I've been taking them for 12 years due to lower back pain and pain from Multiple Sclerosis. I take between 30 and 40 mg ( Norco 10/325) but I am more concerned about the T...

Does anyone know what a good replacement for vicodone since they took it off the market? My dr. put me on norco 7.5-325. These are a joke. I have to take 2-3 tabs when I was taking 1 tab.I am really screwed since I am allergic to codene, morphene, and most things that get me out of pain. I am on fentenal patch, but this replacement doesn;t make any sence. If I have to take 3 times the dosage I'm taking 3 times the acetaminophen. I was on percocet but now my insurance charges 3x the amount it used to cost, so thats not affordable. Any suggestions? Thanks ## Vicodin is still on the market, it an Norco actually contain the same active ingredients, Hydrocodone and Acetaminophen. Learn more Vicodin details here. All of these combination medications are being changed, however, to contain ...

My orthopedic surgeon prescribed hydrocone-acetominophen 7.5/325 after my knee replacement surgery a month ago. Since I am taking levothyroxine, I had a bad reaction to the surgery--I think it was the anesthesia--and couldn't hold any food down for two days. But now, I'm finding that I'm getting desensitized to the hydrocodone and the 3X a day that the doctor prescribed for it isn't enough, and I am in pain after a few hours, and the amount of time I am pain free gets less and less with every passing day. I have started taking the hydrocodone every six hours (4X daily) and even that is not enough to control the pain. What should I do? ## It would be best to inform your doctor, because you may need to try a different medication, or you may need to switch to the 10/325mg d...

I had knee replacement surgery two weeks ago and took oxycodone and then vicodin. I've had nausea from surgery and for the entire two weeks. I've stopped taking all narcotics for two days but still have nausea. When can I expect the GI upset to go away? ## Hello, Carmen! How are you feeling? Has the nausea eased, yet? Both the anesthesia used during the surgery and the medications can cause nausea that may linger for quite awhile, even after you stop taking them. However, after being off of it all for a week, or so, it should start to improve. If it doesn't, then you should consult your doctor. The FDA classifies this medication as a analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constip...

I have just recently began a pain treatment clinic. I was prescribed hydrocodone 5mg with 325 mg acetaminophen. This is not working for me. What do I need to say to convince my Dr to change to oxycodone? ## How you tell the Dr. you want to change? That you want to change back to your old meds, pain pill. ## Just be honest with your doctor, tell them that the new medication isn't working for you, but you should do so, without asking for a specific replacement medication, let them suggest a solution, and then discuss your options from there. Oxycodone has a tendency to be addictive and is highly abused, which makes many doctors reluctant to prescribe it. It's other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. Does anyone else have any advice to...

I had surgery in May for disc replacement in C5 and C6 and was taking 10-325mg of Norco for pain, on October 12th I had a disc replaced in L5-S1 and my surgeon put me on 10-325mg of Percocet and Valium 10mg. I have been depressed at home and went to my primary care doctor who prescribed 7.5-500mg of Lortab, I was taking the other meds 2 every 4 hours for pain and have been dropped to 1 Lortab every 4-6 hours, this is not controlling my pain, my doctor feels I have been taking the Percocet for too long, 2 months, he also took me off my Valium 10mg and changed it to Klonopin 1mg, half to 1 pill twice a day, I have been in a lot of pain for a few days now since changing dosages and feel anxious and depressed, is this acceptable or should I go talk to my surgeon again and have my meds chang...

I have taken hydrocodone 5/325 for knee pain as needed for about 9months, while waiting to move to a different city. I finally made the move in mid December, and had total knee replacement on Feb. 4. After having morphine and a shot block to that leg, pain in the hospital was manageable. Upon discharge, I was given a prescription for Oxycodone. These worked fine so long as I took two. (rx said " 1-2 tablets"). When these were gone, the doctor replaced them with hydrocodone 7.5/325. These just dont work. To get any relief, I have to take extra Tylenol with them, and then I only get relief for about 3 hours, not 6. Is there an alternative pain med I could ask for? I know he is concerned about my getting addicted, but I didn't get addicted in the 9months because I only took the...

how to pospone ankle replacement until good sucess is evidenced. I do not want repeat sugery 1-7yrs. ## this site is not medical professionals and cannot really advise you as to your best treatment options. However, not everyone requires a second joint replacement, since the materials used have gradually improved with time. Have you discussed these concerns with your doctor? You can learn more about it here; this tablet contains 325mgs of Acetaminophen and 10mgs of Hydrocodone, a generic for Norco. This is a narcotic pain reliever. Some of the most common side effects include: drowsiness, nausea, dry mouth and constipation.

Have kidney stone and was prescribed Hydro/Apap 5-325. Says to take 1 tablet every six hours. Took half a tablet four hours ago because a whole tablet was making me sick and dizzy. Half a tablet is doing nothing at this point, so can I take tylenol after four hours or do I have to wait until six hours? ## Can I you take zolnoks 10mg half tab every 6 hours throughout the day and night? My mother who is 71 years old had a knee replacement and zolnoks seem to help taken with pain medicine, senaleve. ## Hello, Calchandl! How are you? Sorry about the kidney stone, I had one last year and they are very painful. Nausea and dizziness can be normal side effect of narcotic analgesics, such as this. Have you tried taking them with food? That might help prevent the nausea, while enabling you to tak...

Am having knee replacements soon, had RNY so can't take any anti-inflammatories. Have been taking 1/2 of a 5-325 for pain made by Qualitest & have a V on one side & 3604 on other. Tablets are scored so can break easily. No problem with stomach. Latest Rx are same color but say Watson on one side and 3202 on other side and, though they are scored to break in half, are really hard to break..sometimes breaking into several pieces. Also, have had ulcer and stomach really burns, especially when I break the tablet into two parts. Could it be the fillers? ## Yes, there could be a filler that's causing more stomach acid. Have you talked to your doctor about possibly taking them with an antacid? As to breaking them, it would be much easier if you got a pill cutter, they are avail...

My mom just had a knee replacement and is taking Hydrocodone. She is taking them every 4 hrs. The holidays are here and she has no refills, plus the doctor's office is closed. How many Ibuprofen can she take to equal the same amount, or is this even possible? ## It isn't possible. Hydrocodone is a narcotic analgesic. so there is nothing available over the counter, including the Ibuprofen, that will be as strong and work as well. Learn more Hydrocodone details here. If the pain gets too bad, she could go to her local ER and they should be able to help her. Does anyone else have any suggestions? ## Icing her knee will help some but going to the ER is best. She should try to keep watch of the number of pills she has on hand so that this never happens again in the future. This is so...

Actually I have been taking them for about 9 months after the Watson (Norco) sold the company and made changes to their medication, they claim all they did was remove the yellow dye! BS the medication sucks, it's useless! On to aurobindo, they have worked for the last months as a good replacement however my latest refill, they are horrible, ineffective with headaches, I am guessing greed stepped in and the company made some changes, because these too are now useless! They will learn an expensive lesson as others will turn away from them as I now will. For some reason the pharm industry has less concern for the patient "customer" than any other, they think they can do as they please. ## @webhead, I agree with what you said about the pharmaceutical industry expressing less con...

After my hurting back in a head on car accident, it's getting worse as I age. I am a senior citizen, out of shape now...I was going to a PC Dr in a local clinic for years, was getting fed up with their tactics, mistakes, cancelled appts at last minute, etc. TWICE I went into WITHDRAWAL for vicodin whilst waiting for script as such renewed every month when my Doctor was out of town on family emergency... Since last Thursday i'm now going to a local hospital's Outpatient center. They gave me a ton of paperwork, referrals for getting MRI, papers I signed, MRI referral, etc and in between such was my new prescription for 3x's per day 5/325 hydrocodone/acetaminophen, aka vicodin. OMG panic attack as i have LOST MY SCRIPT!! I called other places within their center I visited, ...

I have been taking 10/500mg hydrocodone for 7yrs and have been told by a lot of people that they will only have 10/325mg hydrocodone on the market in 2014 is that true? ## Hello, Shantrell! How are you? Yes, it is true. Due to the risk of liver damage or failure that can be associated with long-term use of high amounts, as well as the risk of overdose, the FDA requested that all combination prescription products that contain Acetaminophen be lowered to contain no more than 325mgs per dose. Some companies have already begun to make the change and remove products from the market that contain the higher amounts of Acetaminophen and the rest will have it completed in a just a few weeks, by the start of 2014. can these be substituted for percs.or loratab?can ## It isn't as strong as the Oxycodone or Hydrocodone that's in those, since it isn't a straight narcotic opiate, just derived from one. Thus, it will really depend on what works best for the individual seeking pain relief. There are many people that get great results from it and there are some that don't. Learn more Tramadol details here. When I tried it years ago it made me sick, but didn't do anything for pain. However, I had a friend whose doctor prescribed it and she got great results with it. I have had RA since I was nine. I've been on EVERY RA medication you can think of . I've had hips replaced and revised as well as knee replacements and spine surgery. It's been tough but I'm a fighter. There is such a stigma for pain meds and I do understand why, it's just some of us use these medications as a way to actually live a semi normal productive life, and NOT for a "high" Anyway because of such a stigma I'm trying to wean off some of my pain meds but it's hard. QUESTION:...I am usually given the 7.5/750 pills but a doctor on call for my rheumatologist this week gave me the 5/325. IS THERE A BIG DIFFERENCE? The 5/325 (he didn't feel right giving me what my real dr. generally prescribes me)pill is small, white, oval, has the number 126 on ...

My doctor wants me to take this two pills every four hours I'm having a knee replacement done at the pharmacies and I mean all the pharmacies won't feel that quantity. What are some of the other medicines that could substitute for the hydrocodone 325– 10 because I will be having rehab and will have to be able to do it ## Ask your dr to write you two different rxs, each for half the amount of the rx you currently have. ## @Dac, I would strongly encourage you to sit down with your doctor and see what he/she suggests as far as alternatives are concerned - Because in my opinion there are no exact equivalents to each pain medication, since they all tend to affect each individual so differently. However getting two different Rx's in half the amount(s) is an excellent suggest...

I had a total shoulder replacement and my doctor gave me Percocet to go home with. They immediately took the pain away for about 4-5 hours. How do I tell my doctor they are not working without her thinking I just want Percocet? ## just tell your doctor.i'm having the same problem with my new doctor.and start looking for another doctor without telling anyone just in case.your in my prayers ## Percocet contains Acetaminophen and Oxycodone, while this contains a different narcotic, Hydrocodone.
