Gabapentin 50mg

I have been taking 50mg.of Lyrica 3 times a day for a pinched nerve in my lower back. Now my Insurance Co. said they will not cover Lyrica they recomend Gabapentin. For four years, I've taken 100mg of Gabapentin (one capsule) along with 0.50mg of Ropinirole (two pills) at night only for Restless Leg Syndrome. I am 76 years old. There were times when I felt that I really could, maybe even should have increased, as directed but I just hate taking any kind of medicines and finally, it felt more ok enough to not increase. So, I did not. Now, I would like to get off of all of it but since the Gabapentin is one capsule, how I can taper off from that one? I can go down slowly on the Ropinirole by taking only one tablet each night as each one is .25mg but I do not know how I can cut the Gabapentin capsule with the powder medicine inside in half. I tried gabapentin 300mg. (instead of Lyrica 50mg.) the first time I used it, it made my heart pound so bad I could not use it, could I use a smaller mgs. of gabapentin. Is 300mg, two capsules three times a day plus 50mg, one in morn & two at night plus1500mg keppra morn & 1500 keppra night, per day to much medication to be on for epilepsy. & what can this be doing to my body ## Hello, Kim! Have lower back pain and was given 800mg Gabapentin to be taken 1/2 tablet 3 times a day. Only took 1/2 pill at bedtime, off and on for only a few months. My doctor moved and was given a different doctor who said my 200mg Zoloft a day wasn't working anymore so I should take a 800mg Gaba pill at night, he tapered me off the Zoloft by reducing 50mg every two weeks. I have been off Zoloft for a week and started wellbutin 75mg one in the morning and one at night. I have fibromyalgia. Has anyone ever taken tramadol when they were on gabapentin, zoloft, and lorazepam? ## Hi, Yellowrose. The only thing with the meds you listed is taking the tramadol with Zoloft as they both work on the serotonin receptors and they may cause a serotonin reaction....or toxicity. I can't remember the exact name for it.....my brain froze on that one.....look it up though. The side effects of this include confusion, anxiety and some other aspects of this combo in which you should visit your ER if any of the side effects appear....especially the confusion. I we recently put on an antidepressant called Brintellix 10mg. However i have been on tramadol 50mg 2x a day for over 2 years and 300mg gabapentin 3x a day for 2 years. As well as norco 7.5 3x day. I've only been on brintellix a week and nervous that maybe that's too much serotonin medicine. Does that make sense? ## Yes, it does make sense and it is a possible risk. Hi there, my problem is complicated. Im on 50mg elavil and 200mgs of gabapentin. Recently I have been experiencing burnt tongue or mouth syndrome. Dr wants to up gabapentin to 300 to treat tongue. We first took away 1 of elavil to help stop dry mouth situation. Now I'm also experiencing salty tast in mouth. This is miserable. I also have fibro and depression. Hence the use of these drugs. I've been taking 50mg for about a week but my pain has gotten worse. I went to my dr. today and he told me to start taking 150mg. I take trazadone,gabapentin methocarbomol. My husband was diagnosed with diabetes 10/8/13. He probably has had it for 3 yr. He's is on 750 Metformin 2 a day, 600mg Gabapentin 3 aday. Still in much pain.He also weights 116, has lost 100lbs. in two years Just got prescribed Lyrica 50mg. 3 a day. Lyrica is very expensive. JUST WONDERING IF IT WILL HELP. My boyfriend is on depakota ER, and Vimpat. Previously he was on gabapentin, which stopped working. So Vimpat replaced that. The first week, he was to take all 3 meds to wean himself off the gabapentin. The following 2 weeks, he was to continue the Vimpat 50mg, and after that go up to 100mg. It was a SAVING GRACE, as he was having multiple seizures a week, and om the days he wasnt, he was still having the burning headaches and such that come with his seizures. Once he started Vimpat 50mg twice a day, all of that stopped. Even the headaches, and burning. It's only been 3 weeks but, it's done tremendously in this short time. I've been on the Butrans patches now for 2 months. I started on 5mg & now I'm on 20mg. I also have Amitriptyline 10mg per day which eventually will go up to 50mg... I also have Tramadol when needed... I was put on Gabapentin but they made me too dopey & they was not good for my Epilepsy either. I felt really ill off them. I suffer from nerve pain as well as stiffness and the Butrans helps with the stiffness; they don't take the major pain away but they do help... I just wish I could stop itching, it's driving me nuts.
