Hi there How are you? I have been experiencing heart palpitations. After ECG doctors said I have a constant fast heart rate. They prescribed pur-bloka 10mg 3x per day as a temporary thing. They said I might not have to use it permanently, but atleast for the next month or so and then we'll wean off. I am quite scared to use them. Should I be weary? I would also like to know if I can start with half a pill 3x per day? ## Hi There. My doctor prescribed pur bloka and panamor suppositories for my migraines. I am a bit concerned now that I've read up more about the uses for pur bloka. Why is Pur bloka being used in the treatment of migraine and Anachroid cyst? ## Pur-Bloka contains the active ingredient propranolol hydrochloride, in doses of 10 or 40mg tablets. Propranolol Hydrochloride's principal effect is to reduce the response of the heart to stress and exercise and it reduces blood pressure in patients with hypertension. The indications for this drug however, have no apparent relation to Arachnoid cysts or migraine headaches. The only conclusion I can reach is that Propranolol may help with specific symptoms or your body's response to such conditions; possibly allowing your body to relax when either of these conditions could make someone restless with insomnia. Just a thought.. but I hope this helps! Have you discussed this yet with any doctor or physici...

I am taking adco bisocor 5mg for high blood pressure. I now have palpitations and my doctor has given me pur-bloka for it. I would like to know if these two drugs are compatible? ## Hello, Morag! How are you? No, these are both in the same drug family and treat the same things, so only one should be taken. Taking them together could cause a life threatening lowering of your blood pressure and heart rate, as listed by the FDA. Are you sure he didn't mean for you to replace it with the new prescription?

Can not be found at any chemist in Bloemfontein. Are there any available meds that will do the same work? ## The drug maker Aspen say that it will only be available again from the end of March, 2015. They gave no reason for the shortage, but a pharmacist told me that it has to do with the availability of the Propranalol molecules. You can try Inderal. It is more expensive, but it is the original commercial drug that Pur-Bloka is based on. It didn't work for me though. ## Thanx for reply. Inderal and indoblock is also not avalable in Bloemfontein. The NIH lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, headache, increased urination, dizziness, and hypotension. However, you really need to see a doctor to be sure what is causing your chest pains. That is the only way to know what is safe for you to take. Are you on any other medications? Hi. Mr Doctor has prescribed Pur-bloka 20mg twice Daily to slow down my heart rate, which it has done but I find my BP dropping too low too even without taking the 6mg Carloc. Is this not dangerous as I then have pain in my left arm when it is too low? ## Hello, Janet! How are you? How low is your blood pressure dropping? Lower blood pressure isn't always dangerous, it depends on whether or not it is causing someone problematic symptoms, as reported by the NIH. What type of pain do you experience? Does it radiate? Or is it muscular? Have you consulted your doctor? It would be best to have this checked out to be safe.

My doctor has prescribed pur bloka as I've tried all kinds of anti depressants which I don't need and they have not worked. ## Yes, it has been shown to help, according to studies published by the NIH, however it is not known to help with other menopausal symptoms, such as irritability, weight changes, and headache. Have you tried taking it, yet? ## Hi, just started taking it. I don't have any other menopausal symptoms. I am still going off Cymgen so I am not sure if it is helping or not. I am still experiencing a lot of hot flushes which interfere with my sleep, but perhaps...

And overdose may cause symptoms such as severe nausea, extreme dizziness, fainting, shallow breathing, lowered heart rate, all of which could potentially be fatal. Do you know someone that overdosed? ## I took full pill a day an I am supposed to take half ## Just FYI Propranolol is NOT what Michael Jackson overdosed on, it was Propofol and a mixture of Ativan and Dilaudid. Propranolol is a beta blocker. Sorry I just wanted you to be aware. Have a wonderful day.

I'm using it once a day for mild nervousness. ## Pur-Bloka contains the active ingredient Propranolol, it is a beta blocker, which is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and cardiac related conditions. Thus, I am not sure how it is supposed to help with nervousness of any type. In the U.S. and other countries that regulate their medications, it is only available by prescription. taking Pur-Bloka 10mg 3 imes a day. as part of my anti-depression medication. i am expenriencing extreme tiredness. does this get any better or should i ask for another type of medication. ## Hello, Monica! How are you? Since this contains the active ingredient Propranolol, which lowers heart rate and blood pressure, it might be causing yours to drop too low. Have you checked your blood pressure or heart rate, while you're feeling that way? This just might not be the right medication for you and you may need to switch to something else. ## Thank you Verwon. I have now reduced it to 1 tablet twice daily and feel much better. I will however monitor my blood pressure from now on. Thanks for the advise.

Vould anything bad happen to me? ## Hello, Charmain! How are you doing? Alcohol is actually a depressant, so it's just going to cause more anxiety, especially if you're drinking so much that you're suffering from a hangover the next day. It's also cardiotoxic, which could be why you're suffering the palpitations and high blood p...

I've been having chest pains for almost 3 years sometimes I feel like my heart will stop beating. My GP said that I have angina pectoris and low blood pressure, then prescribed Pur Blocka. Can one drink alcohol when taking Pur Bloka? ## It is never a good idea to drink alcohol while taking a prescription medication, or having been diagnosed with any medical condition, it can worsen the side effects, according to the NIH, and may put your life at risk, when combined with some medical conditions. However, a major symptom of angina usually includes chest pain, which is not something you listed among your symptoms. What you've listed, according to NIH reports, are symptoms of palpitations, which in most cases, are actually harmless and require no treatment. What type of doctor did y...
