People are talking on a site about sucking on F patches.if I lose one in the shower its no longer good after being wet.how can the patch b wet and then used effectively? ## Well, that is the fact of relevance here, they aren't using them appropriately and effectively. Sucking on them is abusing them, they are trying to get all of the narcotic out to get high, rather than using it as designed by letting it slowly release to alleviate their pain. The FDA classifies this medication as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I have been on 20mcg of Butrans patches for about 4 months now and there not helping with my pai...

I can't find a pharmacy that has 100 µmcg patches patches in Houston ## Hello, Chrystal! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem that you're having. We are now into the time of year when there is usually a shortage of controlled substances, due to mandatory manufacturing limits. Once a manufacturer reaches their yearly allotted limit, they cannot manufacture any new product, until after the new year. Every year, we inevitable end up with demand exceeding the supply, which results in a shortage for the last few months of the year. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. The best suggestion I can make is to see what your pharmacy does have...

How many percocets equal the 100mcg patches changed every 48 hours ## Hello, Tina! How are you? Fentanyl is the most potent opiate available, so you'd actually need several hundred milligrams of Oxycodone to equal a 100mcg patch and you can't take enough Percocet to be equal to it. Percocet contains Acetaminophen and Oxycodone, you'd overdose, especially on the Acetaminophen, before you ever reached the same level of efficacy. Even if you tried to space it over 2 days, as you would the patch. The FDA lists these medications as being narcotic analgesics, so they have potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Has your doctor switched you form one to the other? ## okay? I have a question on pain ...

I took a 12mg suboxone yesterday early am. When can I take my 25mg fentanyl patches?? ## Hello, Jennifer! How are you? Usually, you need to wait about 3 days, due to the Suboxone blocking the action of other opiates, unless your doctor has instructed you otherwise. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Suboxone, subutex, nor any form of buprenorphine will block Fentanyl. Fentanyl has a higher affinity for opiate receptors. I know this because I am on Belbuca (was on subutex) for chronic pain. I've taken all forms of opiates that exist! I don't want to be on oxycodone or any othe...

Doctor took me off percocet 10's and put me on 12mcg fentanyl patches. Will this help? I was taking six percocet a day. ## The only way to discover whether or not this medication will help you is by trying it, but Fentanyl is stronger than Oxycodone. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. Have you start the patches, yet? ## I was on 100mcg every 48 hrs of fentanyl for 15 years n it worked great. Then they cut me off cold turkey n I had to buy the patches for 1/2 of how many mcgs they were. I saw a pain management Dr to have him put me back on the patches again. He told me the state of Illinois wouldn't allow him to prescribe the patches so he gave me 180 Percocet ...

I am on Mainland Fentanyl patches 100 milligram. I was wanting to know if it came in a pill form instead of the patches? ## Hello, Rita! How are you? Yes, there is a tablet form available, as well as lozenges, spray, and shots. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. I have been taking 60mg morphine sulfate er for 10 plus years with 30mg oxycodone for breakthrough pain relief. A friend of mine who also has severe pain is on fentynal patches and I was wondering which one is better? What I am taking now is beginning to not work as well as it use to. Help! ## Fentanyl is the most potent opiate available, it is over 81 times stronger than Morphine. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, dry mouth, and constipation. However, it depends on which medication works best for you and what your doctor feels is safe for you to try. Are these the only medications you are currently taking? ## Fentanyl 100mcg along with 30mg roxicodone 4 x per day works well. Everybo...

does the phentol patch contain methadone? ## I'm sorry, did you mean Phentol, which refers to Phentolamine and is used to treat hypertensive emergencies or did you mean Fentanyl, which is a narcotic to treat pain? Neither one contains Methadone. Fentanyl contains exactly that, it is the active ingredient. It is a narcotic used to treat chronic pain. Common side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and dry mouth. ## Hi, very informative , I appreciate the comments. I recently was told by a pharmacist that I might check into phentol patches for cancer pain, so it will not cause constipation. ## Do not do patches if u have done methadone or any other medications or opioids u will O.D trust me I speak from experience.

I've been on heavy opiates since 2001. I am at the lowest I've ever been(150mcg/h) the patches say they will last 72hours. I have to change mine every 48. Is this common? Also today is the first time I'm using expired patches. Is this safe? ## Hello, Agro! How are you doing? They may be less effective, but as long as they aren't dried out, cracking/tearing and leaking, they shouldn't be dangerous. Did you run out of your regular prescription? This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. ## Yea I ran out...and was having insurance problems. They were so weak! I got my reg patches back tho. Thnx for the tip. Another question....they switched the b...

I am currently taking 40mg oxycontin 3 tds for failed spinal fusion. Have been on same dose for 5 or so years but now they dont help much so I am considering changing to patches. Will I have to come crashing down if I change or will the fentonyl stop the crash during change over?It is a daunting thought to come down as I did trying jernista and couldnt cope with pain also. Any feedback greatly appreciated. ## Sorry about the pain you're in! The Fentanyl should prevent any withdrawal effects, because it is actually stronger than the Oxycodone. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Learn more Fentanyl details here. Are there any other questions or concerns?

I have fentanyl patches that expired in 2011. Can you still use them? Are they dangerous or just loose there potency? ## Hello, Jaebeau! How are you? They lose potency, being several years expired, they are not likely to be very effective now and you should just dispose of them. It would be best to see your doctor for a new prescription, if needed. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

Does anyone know if/when sandoz fentanyl patches will become available again? ## No, I'm sorry, I don't have any information on any current problems. Have you tried asking your pharmacy? They'd have access to the most current information on any availability problems, since they are alerted immediately by the FDA and the information we have is generally delayed, since this site does not manufacture, nor dispense any medications. This is a very potent narcotic analgesic and it may cause side effects, such as: nausea, dizziness, constipation and dry mouth. ## I think it is gone I was on it and it worked great the only one left is Watson brand it works almost as good as the sandose and it has the gel in it the other ones do not work try them I think you will like them good luck ...

Are there any prolonged side effects after 10 yrs of treatment? ## Hello, Shellbee! How are you? Long-term side effects usually entail the possibility of liver damage, but that would be detected via blood work, if your doctor is monitoring you and checking occasionally. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I was just taken off of 50mcg fentanyl patches/72hrs, and put on oxycodone 20mg extended release with hydro/APAP 5mg/325 acetaminophen for breakthrough pain and I'm going thru withdrawl as well as being in pain. Everything I read here gives me the impression that this shouldn...

my Dr has suggested that I cut Fentanyl 12.5 patches in half to reduce dosage and eventually stop using them, I have been using them for about three years/3.5yrs But I am confused as the leaflet says not to cut them. I would like to stop using them and this has been his only advice. ## Hello, Dewi! How are you? It depends on the type of patch, it seems there are some that can be safely cut, but it would be best to ask your pharmacist, before doing so, to be sure. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. All I need to know is how many norco 5's equal one 25mg fentanyl patch? I usually use fentanyl patches for my severe sciatica pain but I ran out and missed my regularly scheduled appt due to my husband having surgery. I do have a new appt but not for a week and I have norco 5's of mine I can take til then but I need to know how many will be close to the pain control I get from the patch. ## The Fentanyl is much, much stronger, so you aren't actually going to be able to take an equivalent dose of the Norco, especially since it also contains Acetaminophen. Taking too much of it in a day can be fatally toxic. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Ha...

i am currently on 25mg fentanyl patches, my dr spoke to me about changing my medication, he is suggesting ER MORPHINE TABLETS taken 12hourly, am I going to manage my pain successfully? we haven't discussed strength so what will be at least equivalent or a little stronger as i'm having breakthrough pain ## I AM OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS, GOOD OR BAD, AS I HAVE A DR'S APP SOON AND WANT TO BE WELL ADVISED.THANKYOU ## Hello, Kim! How are you? You only need 7.5mgs of Morphine to equal each patch of Fentanyl, though you will take it more often, since it doesn't last 3 days, like the patch does. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else...

I have been on lidocaine and flector which neither helps do to pain is through my whole body... doctors are saying lupus, cancer, endometriosis, 3 different arthritis, permanent nerve damage (neck, spine, and hands which they said carpal tunnel) and fibromyalgia. I've been seeing doctors all my life and need the pain to stop. ## There are Fentanyl patches, it is a very potent narcotic, another option would be patches that contain Suboxone. Both are opiate narcotics that carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, and constipation. Is there anythin...

Hi. I have a question about fentanyl. I'm on 25+12mg every 72hr but still in a lot off pain. Now I heard from a friend that oxycodone 80mg is stronger. I'm in the pain clinic and my dr said my insurance (bmc) doesn't cover the oxycodone. Can anyone tell me if I can pay for the meds with cash? ## Hello, Caroux! How are you? No, Fentanyl is the strongest narcotic available, it is even stronger than Oxycodone. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. However, you may need a medication for breakthrough pain, in addition to the patches. Most doctors will prescribe a low dose Oxycodone or something similar. Have you let your doctor know that your current ...

ive been on these for about 7 years and was just asking coz my teeth are slowly getting worse also on oxynorm amitriptoline seratail co-codamol and have just started on fentanyl patches please help ## Your teeth can be affected by many medications, especially narcotics. The problem is caused due to the fact that they tend to sap the minerals from your body, plus they cause dry mouth, which allows more bacteria to sit on your teeth. From the medications you are taking, all of the narcotics, the Oxycontin, Co-Codamol, Oxynorm and the Fentanyl can cause a loss of calcium, as well as dry mouth. And the Amitryptiline can also cause dry mouth as a side effect. Many people on long-term narcotic pain management end up with severe dental issues and a lot have lost all their teeth and required de...
