Fentanyl Pain Management

Can anyone advise me on a pain management physician somewhere in or around Virginia that is willing to treat with Fentanyl Patch for pain control? I have severe lordosis, pinched nerve (inoperable) and have received multiple steroid injections at both L5 and L2. The Lumbar pain has only worsened with severe Sciatica down my left leg to my left foot. I was actually discharged from the Marine Corps at age 19 for severe back pain, which over the years has responded to oral steroids, but no longer. I am being prescribed Vicodin for pain 2 tabs every 4 hours. However, the pain control is not consistent due to sleep, and I also fear taking 5 Grams/Tylenol every day. I just feel that being placed on a fentanyl patch makes more sense than constant refills of Vicodin and having to stop to take t...

My husband died and money is tight so now I can only go to a Medicaid Doctor. I am getting desperate every day feels like a nightmare since he died now this. ## Mags, what state are you in? Have you asked your PCP if he can recommend a Pain Management Doctor that accepts Medicaid and is also accepting New Patients?

Good day to all. This post is for those who may be faced with chronic pain or who may have loved ones undergoing difficult challenges in a similar capacity. I'm writing this message because I just stumbled upon an article by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), as they recently announced a meeting they held on May 31st through June 1st, 2018 discussing chronic pain and the opioid crisis. The event was intended to highlight the need for better pain management by taking advantage of the latest research in the field. In hindsight, many of us have come to terms that it's predominantly an illicit drug and fentanyl crisis (not solely prescribed opioids as is often depicted), but for the sake of allowing mainstream news to shed light on better approaches to pain management, I think...

I have steel rods in my back for scoliosis. They have caused severe nerve damage and I am in constant pain.Fentanyl patches and oxycodone helps me be able to fix myself a microwave meal.I don't have family to help.I need a doctor to prescribe fentanyl patch and oxycodone in the kentucky area.I can't ride far cause i hurt bad. Please help.Thank you. ## Hello, Daise! How are you? Due to the new regulations that were put in place last year, if you require such a medication on a long-term ongoing basis, you'll need to see a pain management specialist. Do you currently have a PCP that might be able to refer you to someone? If so, that will most likely be the quickest and easiest way to find the help you need. I also want to caution you about asking a doctor for specific medicatio...

As of May 1, my PCP will no longer treat chronic pain. I developed rsd/crps several years ago after surgery. I was referred to a pain clinic; PT; several modalities. Finally got pain manageable with Fentanyl Patches and Hydrocodone. Multiple weaning attempts, but pain was too much. Almost 2 years ago, I was able to wean off of the patches. So now, just using hydrocodone. It keeps pain tolerable most days. I am awake, alert and fully functional. I take 20 mg four times a day. As a critical care and hospice nurse for 30+ years, I know risks and ramifications. I also know I CANNOT tolerate 24/7/365 pain. I just need someone who will continue the regimen that has worked for me for years. I have done it all; biofeedback, antidepressants, anticonvulsants, etc.. I am on full term disability du...

I have suffered chronic pain from miserably failed back surgery and also have fibromyalgia. I have been in PM since 1994 and had to scratch my way through the medicine cabinet along with submitting to a kazillion different tests, therapy, the works. I wear 100mcg fentanyl patches, take 10/325 Norco for breakthrough pain, 6 mg tizanidine four times a day, 100mg trazadone at bed and bupropion 150 SR twice a day. I also suffer depression when my pain goes uncontrolled. I cannot take Cymbalta, Lyrics, gabapentin, desipramine, and SSRIs do NOTHING for me. I have had an rx for Lorazepam three times a day for as long as I can remember, but hate them! Have a script for 90 I filled in January and it's barely touched. I only take one when I am about to burst or my last nerve is standing on en...

Who is the best pain management doctor in the Beaumont area? We just moved from Austin, and after calling around, can't find a good one. For starters, they all tell you right off the bat they don't prescribe Oxycodone. What? Why reject a drug before you even know a patient's history or what kind of results they've had with it. Why does every pain doc in Beaumont have this asinine attitude, and what alternatives do they offer? (I am already on Fentanyl patches, with a spinal stimulator, and that does not control the pain). I'd prefer someone who takes Blue Cross Blue Shield. ## The reason you're getting that attitude is because when someone calls asking for a specific medication, doctors have been taught to view that as drug seeking behavior and they'll tell y...

I went to suboxone and i am still in pain. after doc switched me to methadone and back again to suboxone because i couldnt do the methadone she told me this was it. gave me script to begin that day. had last methadone that morning. by the time i picked up mychildren i was going thru horrific withdrawal induced by the subs. and great pain. bi called them for help and an answer to why i was going thru it. they thought i wanted more suboxone! then they said they didnt know why and that i would have to go thru it. by the weekend i was in such desperation i put on a fentanyl patch. took it off 12 hopurs later. i was so deperate. now ive been dropped. this is following me. i am in so much pain. no one will take me for pain management. even with sub i cant function. found out in suboxone info ...

I've been in PM for 8yrs and in that time I've only ever been to 3 clinics and never have I've been dismissed for anything other than insurance issues. Never broken any rules anywhere. I've been on fentanyl patches 150 all 8 years. My current clinic that I've been with for more than a year, all the sudden said I would be going way down on the patches. Their reason is health department guidelines and my MEDD score was too high. Told me the acceptable range for patients will not exceed 180. Their only reason was this MEDD score. After a year of giving me 150 all the sudden this. Is this just middle TN or are most pm doctors doing this? And if you have a Dr who isn't doing this, please let me know. I have great insurance and can go most anyplace. I'm now down to...

I am looking into changing pain management doctors. I've been on pain management over 8 yrs. My original one stopped doing pain mgmt last year & it took forever to find one to take my case. Now, i'm starting to question him & would like to know if anyone has any recommendations. I'm taking 40MG of OXYCODONE a day & 100MCG Fentanyl patch, plus Methocarbamol. Those are the "main" ones. Any help would be really appreciated! ## Pow dr dropped me over a U/A for alcohol. I'm so tired of the war over meds or medical marijuana. I just got rocked by my dr. Now I'm in search of a new dr who may help in Colorado Springs; even a cash dr till my referral from my primary care dr gets into the system.

I don't understand why I have to suffer so much and I've lost out on so much in life. It doesn't seem fair. I live in southeast ky. I need a doctor close by. I wish I could find one close to Berea ky. ## The dea is totally stupid making seniors suffer because some young kids buy fentanyl illegally from other countries while so called pain clinics have become a billion dollar industry torturing seniors.

I have been in Pain Management for 15 years. I have the usual round of diagnoses. Herniated discs at cervical, thoracic and lumber spine. Bone spurs through out. I have spinal cord compression in my neck. Pain. I just switched from 16mg of Exalgo (Dilaudid ER) with Fentanyl ir for breakthrough- back to 100mcg Fentanyl patches with 15mg Morphine 3x a day for breakthrough. I feel like a trapped rat. To the outside world I'm a professional woman, mother of 3 grown children. I'm no different from any other junkie though. I wanted to go into suboxone assisted substance abuse treatment. Then I found out that, for quite a while, you have to be at the program every day to pick up meds (and go to therapy/group). I'd lose my job! I can walk into Pain Management, ask for Suboxone and l...

I have been on it for several months but I can't say it is very helpful. Also I seem to have a lot of trouble with achy legs, but I donteantto increase the dose and get addicted. Anyone else having this problem? ## Hello, Tina! How are you doing? I'm sorry that you're in pain. Not every medication works for everyone that tries it, unfortunately, so this might not be the right choice to help you. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. When I tried it, while on pain management years ago, it worked very well for me, but when a friend tried it from his doctor it did nothing for him, at all. What other medications have you...

I use no other types off oills and when I have tried nothing works I have a cool doctor but he wants me to go to pain management to deal with this help $$$$but not doc ## Where are you ? ## Fentanyl is the strongest narcotic for pain that is on the market, there aren't any stronger options for you. Your doctor is right, pain management is probably going to be your best bet, as they have better training as to what combination of medications, or what other therapies, might help someone in your situation. What are the uses for Fentanyl and what's in it? ## what is fentanyl? and how long does it take to come off a 50mcg because my wife smokes a cigarete sometimes and pain management will not treat you if you smoke here in hall co. ga. ## Does all pain treatment places now in america refuse to treat you if you smoke cigarets?? Thats the current policy here in gainesville ga. hall co. dont understand the logic behind it . ## Fentanyl is a very potent opiate that is used to treat severe pain, thus, the FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. I have been prescribed dilaudid 8mg 4xs daily for 2 years by a respected, long time in the community pain management dr. He tried me on Fentanyl in Feb but it made me sick and changed the dilaudid to 6 daily until I find new PM Dr in my new area. I moved from Destin, FL to Jacksonville, Fl. 3 weeks ago. My Destin PM Dr was giving me the 6 daily ONLY until new Dr finds extended release rx to suit my needs and use the dilaudid for breakthrough. He didn't want to start me on a new rx and then I move in case of reactions. So. Being he gave me 120 every 20 days instead of every 30 days so not to raise a red flag here in FL, no new PM Dr will see me before 28 days is up, leaving me in withdrawals and the original horrible pain for not only those 8 days in between but an additional week be...

At the hospital with heart and chest pain. Already on a Fentanyl patch and its not working. Is there anything stronger than the Fentanyl patch? ## No, Fentanyl is really the strongest narcotic on the market, since it's over 80 times stronger than Morphine. However, there are medications they can give you that would work faster, but on that the relevant question is, what is causing the pain? ## I need a dr in Binghamton area for my medications fentanol and Percocet my dr went out with cancer and the other dr is not weighting he scripts for anyone any more new York Binghamton vestal plead help ## Ask at your hospital for the name of a Pain Specialist, or Rheumatologist.
