I am a 20 year old female. 3 years ago I was diagnosed with "chronic constipation." I have a bowel movement probably 1-2 times a week. I have had 2 colonoscopies and a flex sig done, and everything appeared to be normal. I have tried every remedy there is: fruit, fiber, laxs, stool softener, enema, exercise, and nothing seems to do the trick. Recently my dr started me on Linzess. I have been taking it for 2 weeks now. So far my bowel movements have not improved while taking Linzess. I spoke with my dr and they suggested that I add miralax to my daily routine along with Linzess. I have not had any improvement with my bowel movements while taking miralax and linzess. Can anyone give me advice or their input? Has anyone else had the same issues? I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM ANYONE!! P...

I have been tested for Chron's Disease and that was negative. I was recently referred to a GI Specialist, who initially started me on Amitzia. I had very uncomfortable side effects, including abdominal cramping, diarrhea, and nausea. He then switched me to Linsza. Been on 90 mlg. methadone for 6 months, having severe constipation. Looking for something to help my opiate addiction that doesn't cause severe constipation. ## Hello, Iceman! How are you doing? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. However, all opiates, inducing those used to treat addiction can cause constipation as a side effect. Along with the risk of being habit forming, the FDA lists their other typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and dry mouth. Have you consulted your doctor? Peristaltic contractions stopped by opiod or oxycontin use can be alleviated with use of this new medication which unblocks the pain receptors in the intestines. What is it called, Terpin?, Torpin? Tarpin? ## Hi Suze54, Based on your description, I think you might be referring to Terpin Hydrate w/codeine. Terpin hydrate is an expectorant, commonly used in the treatment of acute and chronic bronchitis as well as other upper respiratory tract conditions. However, it is commonly formulated with an antitussive (e.g., codeine) as a combined preparation. I'm thinking perhaps it was most likely the codeine in it this preparation that helped alleviate those pain receptors in the intestines. You can learn more about this drug on the page for Terpin hydrate Details Any thoughts on this being ...

I am unable to move my bowels from taking Exalgo and other opiods that I have taken for my chronic pain. Neither has more fiber, Colace, prunes, miralax etc. Anybody have any amazing remedy??? ## Very sorry about the problem you are having. I've been there, when taking opiates, but increased fiber intake helped me. Have you tried enemas, or suppositories? Pain relief for chronic spinal arthritis for opoid tolerant patient ## Hello, David! How are you? I'm sorry that you're in pain. What opiates have you tried? On oxycodone-acetaminophen 10/325 4 times day. It was also combined with Fentanyl 100 every 72 hrs. I asked to be taken off Fentanyl as it's very expensive. My Dr prescribed then Methadone HCL 10 mg 2 tabs every 8 hrs. This combination doesn't work as well. What's my other choice? ## If the Oxycodone is helping, you may want to speak to your doctor about trying it, by itself. It's available in various doses, without the added Acetaminophen. what drugs are long acting for chronic pain ## There are several on the market, the ones most commonly used are 12 hour time released version of Morphine and Oxycodone, sold under the brand names MS Contin and Oxycontin. They are both narcotic medications: There is another narcotic called Fentanyl, it is sold as a time released patch, under the brand name Duragesic. These all, of course, require a doctor's prescription and carry common side effects, such as: nausea, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Yes, any doctor that has a license to prescribe medications can prescribe it for pain, the only restriction is when it's being prescribed for drug addiction.
