I'm having problems with painful gums and sinus swelling, pressure and pain. Probable TMJ. Before I try to see a dentist (I have no dental ins), which antibiotic should I ask my doctor to prescribe to clear up the infection? I know she will know, but I like to know before I ask. Thank you for any advice. ## Hello, Mimi! How are you? TMJ is not due to an infection and antibiotics will not treat it. TMJ is due to a problem in the jaw joint that causes pain and inflammation and it needs to be treated totally differently to reduce the inflammation and prevent the problem from recurring and worsening. Thus, you need to consult your dentist for proper treatment, if it is TMJ. An antibiotic will only treat a bacterial infection and there isn't any particular one that would be better th...

Can it be a transmitted disease? ## Hello, Candy! How are you? I'm sorry, your posts aren't very clear, but I did provide you some information in the other one that I just answered. It depends on what type of vaginal bacteria is being treated. Yeast infections are not usually transmitted and neither are all cases of bacterial vaginosis. If your taking Flagyl, that is an antibiotic that's used to treat bacterial infections and its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain and diarrhea. What did your doctor diagnose you as having?

What causes a tooth to get an abscess? ## Hello, Cookie61! How are you? A dental abscess is caused by a bacterial infection, which has usually developed due to bacteria getting into the root of the tooth from a deep dental cary, or other exposure of the roots. In most cases, it must be treated with an antibiotic, then the underlying cause rectified, by the performance of a root canal and filling of the tooth with a cap, or a full extraction. Treating of the pain, or just taking an antibiotic will not solve the problem and is something I always try to warn people about. If you don't see a dentist to have the underlying issue correct, the infection will keep returning. Signs of an abscess, according to the NIH, may possibly include swelling, puss, pain and sensitivity to heat and cold...

I suffered from a throat infection like tonsillitis for the last 5 days. So can i take chymoral forte? I took other medicine but it was not effective. ## What other medication did you try? Hello forum members. I have a question about psychiatric medication which I was wrongly prescribed. Firstly, I suffer from Chronic Lyme Disease. For those who don't know it is a quite serious bacterial infection that causes profound physical fatigue, muscle pain, cognitive problems, and depression and derealization. However, as I have just learned recently, the physical and psychological aspects of the disease are completely due to the bacteria infection of the brain and body, and will disappear completely once treated with antibiotics, which I am now taking regularly. I was unfortunately only diagnosed properly 3 months ago, after having suffered 5 years of debilitating physical illness. Ok, so my problem is this: Before I was diagnosed, I was suffering the severe psychological eff...

Symptoms are stomach cramps, nausea, abdominal pain. Can I use an antibiotic for these symptoms? ## Hello, Linda! How are you? Antibiotics only treat bacterial infections, but the symptoms you've described are most commonly caused by viral infections, so antibiotics will not help, as reported by the NIH. There are several possible causes of Balanitis, so proper treatment depends on the exact cause. Hello I have a bottle of penicillin vk 500mg filled 9.29.10. prescribed by my dentist. Are they to old to use, I have a nasty cold. Thank you ## Hi Denise, sorry you aren't feeling well! But no, old or new, Penicillin isn't effective at treating the virus that causes a cold. It is only effective against bacterial infections. Additionally, improper use, such as taking it for a cold could lead to your developing antibiotic resistance, which could be very dangerous if you do get an actual infection that requires an antibiotic. It doesn't get dangerous once it's expired, but it does start to lose effectiveness, so it should just be disposed of properly. Taking it would further potentiate the risk of developing antibiotic resistance. Is there anything else I can help with? Le...

You should take 1 pill every six hour 4 times a day . 1 hour before you eat or 2 hours after you eat.. but if it causes nausea you can take with food it just takes longer to absorb. . You should take for a least 7 days better if you take for 10 days ...hope this helps ## Thanks for sharing this dosing information on Ampicillin. I just wanted to build off what was mentioned and add a couple details for other readers on here. Even though a 7-10 day regimen seems to be most prevalent for typical bacterial infections, I have heard of cases where people are on antibiotics like this for several weeks or more at a time. I need your help. ## Hello, Kar! How are you? I am very sorry about the problem that you're having. The virus that causes colds would not infect you that frequently, or continuously. It also rarely causes fevers. Thus, it is more likely that you have a sinus infection, which will require an antibiotic to eradicate, being that they are usually bacterial in nature. When did this start? Sometimes a cold can make you more susceptible to an infection, so it may have started with one awhile ago. What have you tried taking to treat it?
