Can you cut it in half? New to med. Noon dose still has heart rate in low 50s and will soon be time to take again. Last night was unnerving with low heart rate and breathing. I see cardiologist tomorrow for first time. PCP prescribed. I am asking cardiologist to reduce dose tomorrow but worried about tonight. ## It could be that it is too high of a dose for you, since the FDA lists that as being a known side effect of taking too much. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. What did your cardiologist recommend?

I am 60+. I have been prescribed by a Doctor to have half of Aten 25mg after break-fast. I have been on this medication since 7 years. I am keen to know if it has any side effect. I thank if some one can give me the answer. ## Did you mean to ask about long term effects? Because side effects only last for a short while, as your body adjusts to a medication. There is a risk that long-term usage of Atenolol may cause damage to the liver, or kidneys, but not controlling your blood pressure would be far, far more risky. Learn more Atenolol details here.

My wife aged 41 yeas prescribed to Telimkind 40 & Aten 25 each one per day for Hypertension. Seeking your suggestions. ## Telmikind contains the active ingredient Telmisartan and Aten contains the active ingredient Atenolol. Telmisartant is an angiotensin receptor agonist and the Atenolol is a beta blocker, they are both commonly used to treat high blood pressure and other cardiovascular disease. The side effect profile is similar for both: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness, headache and stomach pain. It is really difficult to give any suggestions from the limited information in your post. For some reason I can only take the 25mg Atenonol from Sandoz, I take it to diminish heart palpitations from MVP, the pharmacy changed the manufacturer to Ateva one time And I began to have palpitations again. So now that Sandoz is on backorder and I cannot get it filled I am going to try Zydus. Can anyone in the pharmaceutical field tell me if it’s the same as Sandoz? Thank you ## Hi Worry17, The only difference between Zydus, Sandoz and other manufacturers is within the list of inactive ingredients, also known as binders/fillers that help make up the pill's composition. In many cases, the quality and quantity of these "so-called inert" substances are subject to an unknown level of scrutiny by the FDA. We don't know how much oversight is involved to monitor where ...

Those can be side effects of this medication, as reported by the FDA. It may also cause nausea, headache and increased urination. I started on this drug about 3 months ago for mild high blood pressure and after about a month and half I noticed I was loosing a lot of my hair when I washed it and then noticed much more in my brush. Then others started noticing hair on my clothes all the time. I've read all I can find about this drug and do not find that to be one of the side effects. Has anyone else heard of this problem with this drug? ## Atenolol is not that of a problem, I had been using that for the last 13 years, so far I did not had any major side effect other than a humming sound in the ear, but Chlortalidone is not known to me yet. 8/17/17 I've been taking 25mg of Atenolol 3xday for Afib, I have it often, have a pacemaker and on pradaxa (blood thinner). Apparently Atenolol is back-ordered all over the country. My cardiologist prescribed Metoprolol, only 25mg 1xday. I'm switching tomorrow and I'm concerned with enough dosage from Metoprolol. I have googled, can't locate equivalent dosage, can you help? ## It is generally better to follow your doctor's instructions as to what dosage you should take. Since these are in the same medication class, the doses are also sometimes the same. The FDA warns that the side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. Have you started taking it, yet? If so, how are you doing?

I can't tell you what to do, but if you aren't sure, you should consult your cardiologist.
