I am an adult that has recently started a college class online and I haveingba very hard time oncentrating and keeping things in order. I am also procrastinating and then fining it hard to concentrate on reading and remember what I read. My mind wanders horribly. I am embarrassed tonjust gonask anyone. ## Hello Josh! How are you doing and how is the class going? You haven't already been diagnosed as having ADHD? You can't just go to a doctor, declare that you have it, and ask for a specific medication to treat it. You need to consult a doctor first, so they can work with you to get a diagnosis, if there is something wrong, and then discuss your treatment options. Sometimes there are other factors at play, it isn't always ADHD. You can learn more about ADHD here. As to Addera...

I am 32 years old I was taking short acting adderall, my new job does drug panels and I did not disclose I have ADD. My Dr. said Straterra does come back positive for amphetamines so that is out. He recommends Intuniv but I have read it does not work, makes people sleepy and depressed. Please post your experience with this drug. Will it allow me to focus? Will I be sleepy and depressed? My job requires great attention to detail in high stress conditions. ## Intuniv works quite well for some people. It's just the the stuff you read online is almost always going to be from those that have had a problem with a medication, the others that take it whom it works well for don't have a need to go online and find a site to look up information. It contains the active ingredient Guanfacine...

Why are so many responders referring to Adderall as Speed? From my understanding, speed is a methamphetamine? Just wondering because I am considering Adderall as a possible alternative to Ritalin but don't want to take Speed! ## Adderall contains Amphetamine and Dextroamphetamine, both of which are stimulants, just different from the ones in Ritalin. It is not specifically Adderall that is considered Speed by abusers, but any stimulant drug, including Ritalin. ## Having been diagnosed with adult add in '81, I can tell you ALL C-11 Stimulants are called speed on the streets. The way it was explained to me is that methamphetamine lasts longer and is the strongest of all the amphetamines. I have also read that a person that has used any of these drugs for an extended period of time...

Need prescription for adderal and psych evaluation ## Ya know. I may answer my own question. As a Canadian, I know Canadian and Hispanic doctors are trained to work in every aspect of medicine. So, they are classified as general practioners, but are able to deliver babies and medicate the elderly. So, stuck in California with a system that funds only narcotic opiates and benzodiazepines for the mentally indigent, I am seeking a Hispanic or Canadian GP for my adderral. Clearly, adderral is amphetamines. F### what you think. The true ADHD, as myself, stutter post ingestion of adds. Anyway, I found a Hispanic GP in Compton. He treats geriatric, pediatric, and delivers babies. I believe I will be successful in continuing my current prescription of 35 years. I will post his information after...

My adult daughter is displaying increased agitation and anger since she is on Vyvance. She has been off it for 2 or 3 days and is feeling horrible. I do not think she ever had ADD or ADHD when the doc prescribed the med. I feel she has been displaying symptoms of ADHD - confusion, irritation, hyperactivity, impulsiveness, etc, since being on the Vyvance. Has anyone had similar experiences?? ## Vyvanse contains the active ingredient Lisdexamfetamine, so it is a stimulant, commonly used to treat ADHD and Narcolepsy. However, these can be side effect for some people, even if they do have ADHD. It can cause: insomnia, irritabillity, agression and nervousness. There are non-stimulant options available that may be better for her. Has she spoken to her doctor about these issues? You can read m...

I have been addicted to mostly everything from a to z dependent on availability of course. Recently turned the big 40 & have decided if I'm ever going to be 100% sober before my number is called, it must be now. I have left the all the "hard" items in the past, gave up drinking approx. 4 years ago, stopped refilling certain rx's, broke that last cig almost 3 months ago now. That I never thought I would really ever do esp. being a 25 yr smoker. Leaving the nose candy, the rave meds, the dones & roxys, years later eventually the booze, few more years pass the smokes.... Oh cant forget the 7 years I spent each day with my xanax..no more. I now only need to say farewell to my recent significant other of last 6 years, Suboxone. Once this is done I will be truly, for t...

I'm a 21 year old female adult who has recently been diagnosed with ADHD. My brother, father, and boyfriend have it so I'm pretty familiar with the topic by now, though I am definitely still learning. My boyfriend and brother both take Adderall XR, which I have tried a couple times. I have found the drug to be very beneficial for me and am more informed on how that works. I would also just like to say, that no, I'm not an addict or just trying to abuse the drug. I do have an actual, verified issue that requires medication. The first prescription I received was Straterra, which really just made me exhausted, really dizzy, and depressed. It also did nothing for my poor attention. So needless to say, I asked for something else. I was recently just switched to Cor 135 20 mg (Tha...

What has been adult reactions and experiences who take Adderall? ## My work's fun, not the drug. I'm not really liking this prescription. ## I personally have suffered from severe ADHD since i was a child.. they had tried me on many different medications for it, which hadn't helped. However Adderall is by far the best medication that I have taken. My attention span has expanded, I am able to perform the tasks that I need to do without getting sidetracked and whatnot. Especially at work and school. Granted if you take it late in the day persay after 6:30-7ish at night, you'll have a really hard time falling asleep at night. It is deffinately an upper, but it does do wonders for many people. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about it, they know more than what anyone else w...

Hello, I am on adderall XR for adult ADHD and fatigue due to fibromyalgia and RSD and COmplex regional pain syndrome....how does it compare in strength for fatigue concentration compare to Vyvanse as Vyvanse is the prodrug of D-amphetimine& a single enantimoer vs mixed such as adderall? thank you very much for any feedback! ## Vyvanse is roughly 1/3 as strong as Adderall so 30-40mg is about equal 10mg Adderall. Vyvanse is perhaps gentler and smoother than Adderall. Best, David

And possibly may need ritalin-- how does one go about being tested for adult ADD or ADHD and figuring out the treatment for it? I have trouble finishing projects and tasks; my focus is off in some way that makes me think tht perhaps this has always been a problem for me. I realize that no one will prescribe Ritalin without a diagnosis, but what if one sincerely thinks one may have this illness? I don't want to be considered a "drug seeker." My life would become so much easier if I could focus on the work I need to do. Thanks... ## Hi Melinda, I completely understand what you're going through. I have dealt with ADD as a child and still suffer as an adult. I've tried medication and I found that in time, it did more harm to my body than good. I've learned that the b...

I was recently prescribed Adderall by my doctor for Adult ADD. My pharmacy gave me Amphetamine Salt. Is there anything different at all in this and does it cause a different effect on you. I am 49 years old and want to get what I am to be taking, not something that has other medications add to it other than what Adderall has in it. I am a little concerned about it. I only want what I am prescribed and haven't had a chance to talk to my doctor about it yet. ## They are the same thing. They only difference is one is the generic and one is the name brand. Does exactly the same thing so you should be fine. ## @Cindy, Dave (post #1) is right about them being the same drug. But if you're used to taking brand name Adderall and are switching to another tablet/capsule, there may be discr...

My doctor prescribed me adderall because of some of the problems that I told her I was having. She said it seems like I am experienceing adult ADD. She told me that adderall would help but she wanted to see me back in one month to see how I was doing on it. I have not started taking it because the pharmacist said I had to have prior authorization to get it. The fact that I am having so much trouble getting it lets me know that it must be a pretty strong drug. Can someone tell me some stories about it from their personal experience? ## I don't have any experience using it, but I can tell you about the drug itself and hopefully others that do use it or have used it will chime in, with their experiences. Adderall contains mixed Amphetamine salts as the active ingredient, they are amphe...

I've been prescribed 10mg Adderral twice a day for adult ADD/ADHD. This is the 1st time I've ever taken any kind of medication like this. When I take my 1st does, 9am, I feel like I just chugged a cup of coffee. I feel wired and almost unable to focus at all because I'm too hyper. It subsides in about an hour and I can feel the medication wearing off some. I take my 2nd dose around noon or 1am. Again, it gets me a little wired but wears off some later... My questions are: 1. Does the initial hyped up feeling calm down after taking the meds for an extended time, as directed? I've only been taking it for 7 days now. 2. I also noticed that I'm more emotional , sad, crying easily at sad and cute things. Is this because of my ups and downs from the meds? 3. Dry mouth! I h...
