or patch, my son can not take a pill to save his life. HELP ## there is no intuniv in patch or liquid but you can try to give it to him with ice cream. I make a little ball of ice cream and put the pill inside. We have a championship to see who can swallow the ball faster without chewing it - my son loves to win - and loves this. It has been working fine and he could not swallow anything. good luck! ## Kika is correct and her idea is very good, there is nothing wrong with putting the pill in something else to help him swallow it, though very high fat foods should be avoided. Alternatively, some other medications, such as Adderall, are available in capsule form, so the powder can be added to something to help them take it, this is something you can ask your doctor about. Methylin is avai...

I am 32 years old I was taking short acting adderall, my new job does drug panels and I did not disclose I have ADD. My Dr. said Straterra does come back positive for amphetamines so that is out. He recommends Intuniv but I have read it does not work, makes people sleepy and depressed. Please post your experience with this drug. Will it allow me to focus? Will I be sleepy and depressed? My job requires great attention to detail in high stress conditions. ## Intuniv works quite well for some people. It's just the the stuff you read online is almost always going to be from those that have had a problem with a medication, the others that take it whom it works well for don't have a need to go online and find a site to look up information. It contains the active ingredient Guanfacine...

My son has just started taking Intuniv, he has slept all day. I have a friend that talks very highly about this medicine, but I just do not like him sleeping so much. His Aderal was working fine, we had a problem with getting refills on it, and I would like him to gain some weight! I just don't know if I can deal with him sleeping so much, if he is still sleepy after two more days, I am going to try another option. ## When my son started Intuniv, he was so tired as well. It really bothered me. Hang in there, after a good month his body got totally adjusted to it, and all that napping went away. You can give it at night until his body gets used to it. We did that for a while then switched back to am dosing. Now it seems like its not working and we are increasing his dose over the wee...

Hi, my daughter was on Intuniv for several years...she's a high functioning autistic teen, and Intuniv helped with her ADD and behavior issues. Last month, we were able to get the new generic version which was just released in December. After about 3 weeks of her taking it, we've noticed behavioral problems begin to crop up again...mostly in the evening. I'm wondering if it has to do with the drug change. Has anyone made the switch and began seeing differences??? ## We started noticing a change as well, about one week after starting the generic. Definitely more emotional, and when we scaled back the dose we started getting the defiance and impulsivity that had really been under control. ## Thank you so much for your reply...we're now back to daily tantrums, which is not ...

My son has autism and Intuniv is working good with the behavior.I really like what i'm seeing but I have to crushed it to give it to him and hide it in peanut butter, I read in the safety information that you should not crushed Intuniv, Of course I want to stop doing it, but now I don't know what to do to give it to him. There no way for him to swallow the pill. Please, any suggestion? It come liquid? ## Hi, I am having the same problem. Only my son has only been on Intunive for 4 days but he absolutely can't swallow the pill. He has Sensory Processing Disorder. I want to know if it is safe for him to chew the pill? I know it says not to but it is the only way he will take it. I was told it only comes in a pill form...no liquid. Help! ## Hi there, my son was having a hard ti...

My 11 yr old daughter was diagnosed with ADHD 5 yrs ago. We have still not found the right combination of medicines for her. Impulsive behavior became a major issue for us. Our ped neurologist suggested intuniv. Since she was also battling anxiety, she started zoloft and intunive while stopping stimulants completely. After a few months, we saw behavioral changes and opted to stop the zoloft. The intuniv alone was not enough to control the inattentiveness, so she is now on a stimulant along with the intuniv. Now we are struggling in a major way with her being disrespectful to us, screaming at us and her sisters, and just being plain out rude ugly to everyone. She thinks everyone is against her. When we speak to her in a authoritative tone, she thinks we are screaming at her. She thinks h...

Hello there, My son has been on Intuniv ER 1mg for four days. The Dr says give it time, but how much time he didnt say. My son takes it at 8am, and at 2pm each day he is tired. after a nap, still tired for the rest of the day. Anyone know how long this might last? Thanks ## Intuniv ER contains the active ingredient Guanfacine, it is used to lower blood pressure and treat ADHD. Drowsiness and fatigue are normal side effects, they should taper off as his body gets used to the medication, this could take from 2 weeks to a month. If it gets worse or does not improve, then make sure to speak to your doctor, again. Other side effects can include: headache, constipation and loss of appetite. You can read more on the medication itself here: Is there anything else I can help you with? ## The sid...

My son is 9, ADHD and this is the first time that he tries med. He has been on INTUNIV for 8 days, we have not seen any real positive change yet, he is still very impulsive and grumpy. Pretty much himself. The changes related to the med is that he is frequently urinating, he has even wet his bed twice, I'm not happy with this but I have read in several forums that some kids experience this, but my major concern is that 4 out of 8 nights trying INTUNIV he has been waking up at night because his tummy aches. Tonight it is specially bad, that I'm at 4:00 AM posting here. He was awake for about two hours feeling really miserable. Has anyone had had similar experience? The side effects info from the drug does not mention stomach aches as one. I would appreciate any comments out there...

Hi, my son is 11, has ADHD, autism, Tourette,SPD, GDD and a learning disability. He's been on Ritalin for three years with very little effect at all. His psychiatrist has now put him on Intuniv. He started on 1mg and there were few side effects. His BP decreased a bit and he was sleepy for three days but this stopped. His dose was increased to 2mg two days ago and now he's complaining of a headache, nausea (he vomited this morning) and has also started wetting a lot. Do these side effects decrease over time...or do they continue? We have noticed a minimal decrease in the tics and he's slightly calmer, also hes only been on the meds a week, so we want to give it a chance. Just wondering if anyone else has any similar experiences. ## Those are all known side effects of this me...

My son just started taking intuitive last Friday and it is now Tuesday. Yesterday and today he has had a bad headache located at the top of his head. Is this normal? What should I do? ## Hello, Amanda! How is your son doing? Has there been any change? A headache can be a normal side effect of this medication, along with nausea, dizziness, decreased appetite, and dry mouth, as reported by the FDA. Have you tried anything to alleviate the headache? Has his doctor been consulted? ## Thank you for the response. Since this message was posted he no longer gets headaches. He had them for about three maybe four days but hasn't had one since.

i need to know if i can take both intuniv and vicodin ## can mixing xanax and intuniv kill a person? ## Any possible problems would depend on the person, how much they are taking and how they react to the medications. Ideally, they both can be prescribed together, but a doctor should carefully consider a patient's tolerance to the medications and monitor them regularly. The doses have to be carefully considered, because they can both cause depression of the central nervous system. Are there any other comments or questions? ## Can you mix Intuniv with Oxy or Hydrocodone? Will I Give You A High Feeling?

My son take this meds Intuniv Er 1mg at night he crys out all the time is this a side effects And he is 40 ## Hello, Brenda! How is your son doing? No, that's not a listed side effect, as reported by the FDA, though it's been known to cause some problems with sleeping. The typical side effects are listed as possibly including drowsiness, dizziness, lethargy, irritability and increase salivation. Is it possible that he's just having nightmares? Has he mentioned anything about his dreams? Is he on any other medications?

My 11 yr old son was put on 1 mg of intuniv then bumped up to 2mg before Christmas. He had been on concerta for years.. He has been getting into trouble at school.. 5 detentions and is mouthy at home.. Could the intuniv be the problem? ## Hello, Heather! How is your son doing? Yes, it could be causing such side effects, but they should go away with time, as his body gets used to the medication. Other side effects, as reported by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, headache, decreased appetite and constipation. If he's still experiencing such issues, you should talk to his prescriber, it may not be the right medication to help him. Is there anything else I can help with?

Have you consulted his doctor?

My daughter's doc recommending stopping her Intuniv. Upon the first missed dose she experience severe insomnia. She went the entire night without sleep! Has anyone else experienced insomnia as a result of Intuniv cessation. ## Hello, Kat! How is your daughter doing? Yes, that is a perfectly normal withdrawal effect, as listed by the FDA. She may also experience dizziness, headache, weight loss and, in a few days, being constantly drowsy. Why did he have her stop it? What dosage was she on?

My 8yo son has been issued Intuniv for his ADHD. He is on 4mg. He has been getting this pill at 7pm. I know that one of the side affects is sleeplessness. He is calming down at 3 or 4 am every day. He gets up at 7 for school. I know that this is a time release drug that extends for about 12 hours or so. Not sure why they recommend this for night time. Any one else have problems giving at night and getting to bed reasonably? Anyone switched times to see if it changes during the day time when they are active? ## @JJ, There's actually another thread here with over 40 replies that has more information on user's personal experiences with Intuniv. Hi there, so my 9 year old has ADHD and we just recently switched from Focalin 10 mg twice daily to Intuniv. The Focalin made him not eat and very depressed. Although it helped with the ADHD symptoms incredibly. My son hated how it made him feel. So now we started the 1mg of Intuniv on Thursday. I am not seeing the improvements in the ADHD symptoms yet but he is having no eating issues and the depression is gone. Now the issue is he is having the most horrendous smelling gas. He smells as bad as my dogs. I am wondering if anyone else has seen this side effect or maybe it is not the meds. Thanks for any info. This is obviously something we can deal with if the meds work but OMG it is awful. ## Hello, Donna! How are you? It might be due to the Focalin, according to the FDA listed side eff...

My son is 6yo and started taking Intumiv two weeks ago. Started at 1mg and now we're at 3mg. It is working great for his ADHD and behavioral aggression but he is waking up in the middle of the night 3-5 times and staying awake saying he can't sleep. Sometimes he wakes up screaming and crying like in a panic but can't really express what's wrong. Since it's summer and he is having such bad nights I let him sleep and he sleeps like a rock from about 6am till 11am. I even made him wake up early and not nap thinking that was the problem but we got the same night time results. He is also wetting the bed several times a week which is totally abnormal. Any advice would be great! ## Hello, Kristina! How is he doing? This medication can cause most of these as side effects, in...

My daughter takes 1/2 of a 1 mg pill of guanfacine in a.m. and other half in p.m. Can I give her a vitamin called On Task Naturally? It is 120mg vit C, 50mg vit B6, 200mg Magnesium, 15mg Zinc. The guanfacine has helped with her hyperactivity, but her mental focus.hasnt improved much. Dont wanna increase guanfacine dose due to sleepiness. We used the "on task" previously, and it worked well for awhile, but then plateaued. Would like to try this combo before trying any other meds or higher doses. ## Unfortunately, supplements aren't evaluated for interactions with prescription drugs. Thus, I can only advise speaking to her doctor or pharmacist, before adding the vitamin, just to be safe. Learn more Guanfacine details here.
