This pill has no crush protection ( ms contine ER) ect... Can it be cut in quarters and used with Oxicontine 30 mg ## Can swim take the purple er protection of a 30 mg MS Contin, cut it in quarters and swallow it. That's only 7.5 a quarter what's the prob. ## I'm not a doctor, but logically, it does make sense to do the math first so you know exactly what you're taking and how you're taking it (if you plan on dividing it up). In that sense, I don't see any harm being done personally. However, when it comes to extended-release medications, I wouldn't recommend tampering with them at all. This is just my own personal preference for safety reasons. It's just not worth the risk to me, since you never really know how it's going to effect you until you try i...

Are there any discount coupons you can download to get a more reasonable price for MS CONTIN 30mg.?? ## I have searched quite a few resources and I am sorry, but I am not finding anything, neither coupons nor assistance programs for this medication. This really doesn't surprise me, as it is very hard to find programs for most controlled substances. MS Contin contains the active ingredient Morphine, which is a narcotic analgesic and it is available as a generic. Have you talked to your pharmacy about purchasing the generic, rather than the name brand? As I remember from when I was on it, the price difference was substantial, the name brand was over $300 a month, but it was only around $100 for a month of the generic. Are there any other comments or questions? ## WALGREENS CARD PROGRA...

Can anyone tell me what 30 mg of morphine er would be equivalent to if it were taken with alcohol? I read if you drink with morphine er it could release the entire pill into your system. I didn't know this when I was drinking beer with it. Thanks. ## Hello, Freida! How are you? No, I am not aware of any issues like that. However, drinking alcohol while taking it should generally be avoided, due to the fact that it can potentiate some of the side effects, so you may experience more nausea, drowsiness and dizziness than usual, as reported by the FDA. It is also warned that MS Contin carries the risk of being habit forming. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.

These dont seem to work can you take every 8hrs instead of 12hrs ## Hi Mike, It sounds to me like the dosage may not be strong enough for you; but to answer your question, the usual adult dose for pain is 5 to 30 mg every 3 to 4 hours as needed (when taking it Orally, Sublingual, or Buccal). The dosing indications for MS Contin (Morphine Oral) also state that "extended-release" tablet dosages range from 10 mg to 600 mg daily, given in equally divided doses every 8 to 12 hours or given as one dose every 24 hours. So depending on whether or not your tablets are extended-release, you should have some flexibility with the hours. I hope this helps! ## They are extend release ## If anyone is looking for a "buzz" with MS Contin, you are very unlikely to get it. These pills are ...

So I just got switched from oxymorphone 30mg ER to the MS CONTIN 30 30MG AND 30 60MG ER'S a month. I tried to get my doc to just write me 40 100mg MS CONTIN but he did not do that. Everybody knows that different mg's act differently like when I took 56 of the 20mg oxymorphone era. They sucked so bad not even 3 20's equaled one 30mg oxymorphone. So knowing from past experience I tried the 100mg MS CONTIN about 5yrs ago from a friend and they worked GREAT exactly the perfect mg I needed but knew I would never be able to get my doc to write that high of a mg. And I was right 5yrs later I still can't get it. I tried explaining it to him but he wasn't having it. So my question is what manufacturer is the best for the 60's and 30's? N yes I know EVERYONE is differe...

I have have been taking percocet for pain of 2 rods in my back and a 357 mag gunshot wound to my thigh which shattered my femur. I was taking 70mg of oxcodone a day for pain but now my new pain management doctor put me on 30mg of MS Contin 2x a day plus 5/325 percocet 3x a day if needed for break thru pain.My question is will this be as effective or not and why? Thank You for any responses! ## I have been prescribed both a combination of Oxycontin & percocet (for break through pain) and 30mg MS Contin (also with Percocet for break through pain)...I personally think that the Oxycontin works better...but I do know a few people who think that the MS Contin (which I am sure you know is Morphine Sulfate) works better for them...Sorry I could not be more helpful, but I truly believe it de...

I have been taking 40mg oxycontin 3x a day. My insurance won't cover it any more. My Doc prescribed ms contin 30mg 2 x a day. will it work? ## Oxycontin contains the active ingredient Oxycodone. It is stronger than the MS Contin which contains the active ingredent Morphine. Both are narcotic pain relievers. That said, your doctor has actually prescribed you a lower dose, to be taken less frequently than what you were taking of the Oxycontin. However, the only way to see if it will help you is for you to try it. Some medications are effective for certain people, some are not. If this dosage does not handle your pain, make sure to contact your doctor right away and let them know. They may need to prescribe one that is slightly higher or to be taken more frequently. You may still exper...

how can i find the ms contin that is not generic? it does not work for me and the last few months i have had trouble finding it. ## Hello, Donna! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. If your doctor has written the prescription for you as 'brand medically necessary' or whatever the equivalent is in your state, your pharmacy should be able to order it in for you. The FDA lists this medication as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Have you tried asking your pharmacist?

Do you have any more questions or information to add? Please post back if you do. ## what are the side effects if taken 3 times a week ## I have a fairly significant spinal injury. I have had surgury to my cervical spine and am putting off surgery to my lumbar spine as long as I can. When I was 40 I was told i had the spine of a 90 year old and I am now 62. I am in constant pain and I am agressively doing what I can to stay mobile at all. I got switched from the 30 mg Morphine ER to MS Contin 30 mg. Is there any difference in these two pills? And they switched my 15 mg Morphine ER to 15mg immediate release. Is there any difference between these two pills? If they are my insurance will pay for it. Please let me know. ## Hi Jeffrey - Technically speaking those two pills should contain the same dosage of Morphine (the active ingredient). While I don't have a picture to show you, the 30mg MS Contin Extended release should be round a purple with either the marking "M 30" or "PF M30" depending on which company labeled the prescription. As far as switching from 15 mg ER to immediate release, yes, there is a difference in that the immediate release should take effect more quickly but not last as long. Are you...

I've been on Lortab for 21 years after back surgery. I also had a morphine pump implant, 3 of them to be exact. But after the last one failed I decided that after 13 years of being stuck in the stomach with needles every 2 months to refill the pump, I wanted it removed permanently. So in addition to the Lortab for pain I was put on Ms Contin(morphine sulfate) 30 mg..But I've found myself going through a vicious cycle with these 2 pain meds and have become very addicted to both drugs. My doctor recently increased the dosage of the ms contin to 60 mg. 3 x a day. Does anyone else take these pain meds? If so what kind of long term effect have they had or do they have on you? I'm up in age now and truly hate taking all these pain medications but don't see a way out. I have se...

I'm having break thru pain which is seriously painful. What could My pain Dr do? ## Hello, SolidMike! How are you? Since this is a time released medication, your doctor could prescribe an instant or regular release one, in addition to it, to help with breakthrough pain. There are quite a few choices that can be prescribed. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Have you spoken to them about the problem? ## I I really feel for everyone here that is really hurting and not just seeking a high. my Dr has me on 2 -15Mg Ms Contin per day with 2- percocet 10's. well long story short they aren't helping at all.what is the next step? can't sleep. const...

I've been on ms contin (morphine er 30 mg) 3 x daily. I was also taking doxepin 100 mg for sleep. Ended up with a massive headache & eye pain. Ended up in the e.r. where a nurse said the doxepin cancels out the morphine. Anyone know about this? ## No, I can't find anything on this, either. Similarly to your other question, this is another case where taking them together causes potentiation of the side effects, though. Thus, you could experience more intense nausea, dizziness and drowsiness than usual, as reported by the FDA. The Morphine itself can sometimes cause headaches in some people that take it, so can the Doxepin, so that may also have been potentiated and resulted in the severe headache/eye pain that you experienced, which sounds like it may have been a migraine. It...

I have been taking 60mg ms contin extended release 3 times a day + 30mg oxycodone immediate release 4 times a day. Recently my doctor changed the oxycodone to morphine 30mg immediate release. He also added lyrica 75 mg and I also take baclofen 10mg & amitriptyline 50mg in which i take 2. I'm still in constant pain. I was shot 8 yrs ago and I still hardly feel relief. What will help me? ## Hello, Shy! How are you? Oxycodone is one and a half times stronger than Morphine, so the dosages are not equivalent, which likely explains why you are in pain. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and it may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. As to the Lyrica, that may take 4 to 5 weeks, before it reaches ...

I take 30 mg MS Contin for cronic pain. Went to take it very early in the morning. Was several hours earlier than usual because i had woken around 4:30am in alot of pain! I was very sleepy and had the perscription bottle sitting next to sink as i started to fill my glass with water. i had one pill in hand and a glass in the other with the water running. As i leaned forward to fill my glass, i knocked my pill bottle over into the sink! At least 8 were really wet, a couple more were a lil wet. I know not to crush, cut, or chew them cause of the warnings on the bottle... but are they unsafe if they had gotten a lil wet? The 8 pills were too wet, but what of the others? I set them aside for now but dont know if i should even keep them or if they will make me sick if i take them. I will cont...

was just taken off 30 mg opana's and put on ms cotin 30 mg cr can anyone please tell me the differrence between the drugs are and should i experience any changes in my body fromthe change i was on opanas for about 2 years ## Well, the Oxymorphone in the Opana is actually stronger than the Morphine in the MS Contin, it takes roughly 90mgs of Morphine to equal 30mgs of the Oxymorphone, so depending on how often you were taking them in a day, you may actually run into experiencing some pain and withdrawal effects. Is there a specific reason they switched you to the MS Contin?
