Updated

Hi , I am on lots of medication And take Amitryptiline 75 grammes nightly to help me sleep; somtimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I take cipralex for depression. Do they conflict? Re my GP and the Amitryptiline he said if you need 25g 50g 75g and so on, I asked will I get addicted? Course you will GP said, should be struck off,
but what can you do, anyway that's my story. Thank you
P.S . Just took 100grammes tonight Oh joy

Based on my research, there are potentially dangerous drug interactions that apply to Amitriptyline and Escitalopram (cipralex). Quoted below are the precautions you should be aware of:

"Talk to your doctor before using escitalopram together with amitriptyline. Combining these medications can increase the risk of a rare but serious condition called the serotonin syndrome, which may include symptoms such as confusion, hallucination, seizure, extreme changes in blood pressure, increased heart rate, fever, excessive sweating, shivering or shaking, blurred vision, muscle spasm or stiffness, tremor, incoordination, stomach cramp, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. You should contact your doctor immediately if you experience these symptoms while taking the medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor."

So to answer your question, I wouldn't recommend taking either of these together unless otherwise instructed by your doctor under his/her supervision. Avoiding this conflict may just amount to a simple change in dosage. But due to the severe nature of this interaction, that is definitely something I'd discuss with your doctor sooner than later.

I hope this info helps!

I'm sorry, but I want to make sure that I understand you correctly…

Your doctor has you on both the Cipralex and Amitritpyline… and they are letting you adjust the dosage of the Amitriptyline yourself, as needed?

This is actually a very dangerous combination to be taking. There is a very high possibility of an interaction occurring that's called Serotonin Syndrome, since they both raise the levels of it in your brain and this syndrome can be fatal.

You can learn more Cipralex details here and you can learn more Amitriptyline details here.

The higher the dosage is raised of either drug, the greater the likelihood of this life threatening reaction occurring.

Thus, I think you really need to consult your doctor, because this is definitely not safe. If your doctor isn't familiar with it, tell them to check the medication interaction information and to read up on serotonin syndrome.
