Effects of Long Term Amitriptyline Use on the Hear
33 Replies RSS
After 20 years of taking amitriptyline for headaches I would like to find people who have had any heart related side effects after long term amitriptyline use. ## Very little is known about the long-term effects of most drugs for depression. The biggest problem reported currently is relapse, when the medication is discontinued. You can read more about antidepressants here: As to any cardiac effects, I am only finding warnings that problems may occur if it is used with some specific other medications. Does anyone else know anything about this? ## I have been on Elavil for 20 years and 100mg at bedtime and I don't recommend anyone taking it long term. I have heart palpatations every day which was determined from Dr. that it was hormonal, but I don't believe it. I tried to decrease...

I have just been per ripped this. I am reading it causes weight gain is that true for everyone? ## Hello, Kah! How are you? No, not everyone that takes any given medication will experience the possible side effects. That's why they are just listed as 'possible' side effects, some people have experienced them, but not everyone. Generally, side effects listed as common occur in 1%, or more, of the tested patients. Other side effects to this medication, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and headache. Is there anything else I can help with?

HI, I'm taking amitriptyline for interstitial cystitis and have recently been diagnised with under active thyroid so am on Levothyroxine 50mg per night. My bladder is really playing up and I'm wondering if these tablets don't work well together? Has anyone experienced this. I don't know whether I've an infection or just need to increase my amitriptyline because its a flare up. Help please! ## The only interaction listed is that the Levothyroxine can actually make the Amitriptyline work better and some doctors have used it, therapeutically, to do so. All medications can affect people different, though, and this site is not medical professionals to pinpoint your problem. Have you spoken to your doctor about it, yet? ## I also have IC. Be leary of anitdepressants. I tri...

I came off A almost 4 months ago. It was very hard at first (I cut the dose in half for a few weeks and then I took away the last half), I couldn't sleep for two months, almost got crazy, but now I can sleep again. Instead now I'm tired all the time. Just wanna sleep. I've got an iron deficiency and also allergy, so maybe that's the reason I'm so tired, I don't know. What I wanted to ask you is something that's been happening lately and scares the h** out of me. When I'm about to fall asleep I get these chills, get cold, and it tingles down my spine, it's like I could feel all the nerves in my spine and I understand this doesn't sound like something scary maybe, but I instantly wake up terrified and with tremendous anxiety and shaking from being s...

My mom started Tryptomer 10 last Thursday. Took full tablet every night for 3 days. Felt nausea and drowsiness. Doc said to reduce it to half immediately (4th day). Half tablet also not suiting as she is feeling drowsy 24 hours. Can I stop it completely with immediate effect? Hardly been 7 days since shes taking it? ## Have you consulted her doctor about stopping it? Tryptomer contains Amitriptyline, which is an antidepressant and, side effects, such as the drowsiness are quite normal for this class of medications. They can last for as long as 4 to 6 weeks, while her body adjusts to the medication, then they should hit their peak in severity and start to taper off. As to stopping it, after that short of a time period, no there really shouldn't be any problems with it, if her doctor ...
