Amitriptyline Overview

Amitriptyline, sold under the brand name Elavil among others, is a medicine used to treat a number of mental illnesses.[2] These include major depressive disorder and anxiety disorder, and less commonly attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and bipolar disorder.[2][3] Other uses include prevention of migraines, treatment of neuropathic pain such as fibromyalgia and postherpetic neuralgia, and less commonly insomnia.[2][4] It is in the tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) class and its exact mech...

Effects of Long Term Amitriptyline Use on the Heart
90 Replies RSS
After 20 years of taking amitriptyline for headaches I would like to find people who have had any heart related side effects after long term amitriptyline use. ## Very little is known about the long-term effects of most drugs for depression. The biggest problem reported currently is relapse, when the medication is discontinued. You can read more about antidepressants here: As to any cardiac effects, I am only finding warnings that problems may occur if it is used with some specific other medications. Does anyone else know anything about this? ## I have been on Elavil for 20 years and 100mg at bedtime and I don't recommend anyone taking it long term. I have heart palpatations every day which was determined from Dr. that it was hormonal, but I don't believe it. I tried to decrease...

Is Amitriptyline A Controlled Subtance

is amitriptyline a narcodic or controlled substance 2102 on one side v on the other side sm. yellow pill ## Amitriptyline is not a narcodic, nor is it subject to the Controlled Substances Act. . It is an antidepressant. Amitriptyline is a fairly safe drug although it can (and usually does) cause EXTREME drowsiness. It should not be taken before driving, etc until you know how it will effect you. Most people continue to become drowsy after taking it so they take it before bedtime. The other most common side effect is constipation. For information about this drug, please refer to the link below... Please post back if you have any other questions or comments to add. ## My doctor prescribed me Amitriptylin 25 MG it was not for depression, it was for a burning sensation that Ive been having ...

Amitriptyline misery
Post a Reply
Hi, I have been depressed for 5 years, almost 6 now. My illness has been very resistant to medical treatment. I have tried a variety of antidepressants and had no results. Now I have been on 150mg of amitriptyline for half a year. It has been THE WORST medication for me. This one has made my suicidal thoughts and overall depression even worse! I can feel my mood drop significantly when I miss a dose, and tapering off this medicine has been a nightmare. I recently saw my psychiatrist yesterday. We made a plan to slow down the tapering process by going down 10mg a week. Last night was my first dose of 140mg, and I really cannot tel if it is just the natural course of my overall illness or if it is making me worse again. Or what if it's just the medicine in general? I don't know if su

I was prescribed amitriptyline for my back pain. I took one 4mg on Tues night at 9pm. I slept most of the 22nd. Maybe awake 3 hours out of that day, but was very confused! I woke up at noon on the 23rd. Is this drug too strong for me or is this normal? Could it be the combination of the two medications amitriptyline and tizanidine? I feel gittery, heart racing, confused and very tired! Please send any information that might help me understand this reaction to these drugs. ## I hope you are aware that this is NOT a pain reliever. This is an antidepressant that has helped some people with certain types of nerve pain, but it does not work like a regular pain reliever or a narcotic. As to sleeping, it is very hard to say, these do cause drowsiness, but not usually that bad. It sounds like y...

withdrawal from trepiline
6 Replies RSS
I am trying to withdraw from trepiline by taking half a tablet (10mg)per day instead of one tablet. I am getting palpitations could this be from the trepaline. ## Hi, Margo! Sorry about the palpitations, they can be miserable and frightening. And yes, it could be from a too rapid dose reduction of the Trepiline, this can happen with antidepressants and that's why the dosage is usually very slowly reduced to taper off of them, rather than just stopping suddenly. If you were on a 20mg dosage, then the first step for tapering would most likely have been going to 15mgs. Learn more Trepiline details here. Have you consulted your doctor? You need to do as soon as possible, because there is also a chance that the palpitations could be due to something else, so you need to have them checked...

My GP has prescribed one tablet per night for my daughter for bed wetting. Can someone provide me with more information about this drug? ## The active ingredient in this is Amitriptyline, most commonly prescribed for depression, but also used to help treat bed wetting. Some of the most common side effects include: dry mouth, extreme weight gain, nausea and dizziness. ## Thanks for your info. My concern now is that my daugher is only 5 & secondly I am worried about the weight gain and addiction probabilities. Should I be giving her the medication? ## Well, this site is not medical professionals here, so I cannot advise you what you should and should not give your daughter. What I can suggest, though, is that you talk to your doctor about your concerns. ## Thank You for your advice. I...

My daughter has left side paralysis. Doctors diagnosed her with conversion disorder. But I know it's vaccine injury. She cannot sleep and has really bad headaches. He put her on amitryptille for the headache alone he claims. I don't think she would be taking this medication ## My 12 year old daughter took this med for 12 weeks to help with migraines. For some people this is a miracle drug. For her it was awful. Headaches got worse. She experienced severe anxiety and panic. We weaned her off over the course of three weeks. It has been 5 weeks since last dose and she is still not herself.

What is the maximum dose of this drug that is being used for a better nights sleep? My doctor prescribed me 50mg. to be taken 1 hour before I plan on going to sleep. I've been taking as prescribed for 2 weeks and so far have NOT had any improvement. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!! ## Ambien also known as Zolpidem and Silnox works well for me, but you can become dependent on them. I used to take it right before bed and listen to a sleep called sleep easily and I would be sound asleep before the CD had ended. I used to wake up on a hourly basis. I was lucky to ever get 4 hours sleep straight and when I did I felt like super woman. But this medication withe sleep easily which can be downloaded to your phone or I pad I would sleep straight through and didn't have any problem...
