My 7 year old cat has anemia and has been given prednicare..2 in the morning and 2 at night. She's reacted extremely well..and her red blood cell count has increased. How long should she remain on the tablets? Seeing as her red blood cells are regenerating nicely and she is almost back to her normal self, should i cut the dose in half and still administer it morning and evening or should i just keep giving her the 2 tablets just once a day? And more importantly, how long can she remain on them? I don't want them to be given to her if she no longer needs them. She's been blood tested with negative results for FLV, cancer and tumors. She's in good health up till now. She's an indoor cat.

Weebox tasty sticks are great for concealing the taste of small tablets. I just break the stick into pieces about 1cm long and poke half a prednicare tablet inside, squishing the end of the Weebox stick around the tablet so it doesn't fall out. My cat actually sits and waits for his "treat" which has the tablet in. It's so easy now. I wish I had discovered this years ago.

I had almost give up hope, as she was getting so thin even though her appetite was good. The vet had thought she had a kidney and thyroid problem and was prescribed renal food after several blood tests!

My 16 year old cat just started 2 wks on Preincare 5mg, as she was losing weight, she was recently finally diagnosed with tumors in her stomach. So-far she putting on weight and doing good.

I have a 9 year old cat, who has a tumour on her eye lid, when the vet rang me to give biopsie results he said it was cancerous, describing it as an octopus. I was stunned with this information, he said he would seek advice and get back to me, a week later, and several calls to vets, I was informed the vet was waiting for a vet hospital to advice next treatment, I took my cat to same vets but different vet saw me, and he explained the rumour was still benign but was heading that way. He told me I could either go down the kemo route or try predicate, as I haven't got insurance I had no option. She has now been on 1mg for nearly 30 days and yes the rumour looks flatter not so angry. I'm due at the vets in 2 days, will the vet try a stronger dose or keep my cat on this dose!

My dog has got a heart condition and is on cardalis, vetmedin, frusimide, and corvental d, we took her to the vets the other day due to her being a bit wheezy and crackly and the vet prescribed her prednicare (steroids) and since she has been in these her breathing has seemed to have got worse and she is now like a steam train has anybody else had this happen with their pet or can give me any advice on what to do because I have rung the vets and they have said that can't do anything so now I am left not knowing what to do? Shall I take her off the prednicare or not?

My old rescused stray cat is on Prednicare and I crush it down into a powder and put half a tube of Wellbox cat paste in a bowl and she seems to eat it all up. I have noticed that she has started to drink a lot more and is urinating a lot in one go.

Hi there, my cat is 17 and has lost a lot of weight but now regaining it with Prednicare alternate days, also Nelio and a diuretic daily. As he lost his weight for unknown reasons, down to 3kg for an adult cat is on the low side,I have decided a little white fish, frozen from my supermarket,is OK. As for boil in the bag in a sauce - any human food contains seasoning, salt, pepper, onion etc - which is very bad for cats and upsets their electrolytic balance. Baby food also has a mixture of seasoning so again be careful with that. Once in a month of human food and more frequently with pure white fish(no salt). My Samson, has boil in the bag cod in butter sauce - which he loves, very rarely, and white fish every few weeks - intermediately he has specific brands of sachet supermarket food in jelly or regular canned food in jelly. This diet has restored his appetite and he is doing well. As a treat lic-e-lics help against dehydration. So, keep off the human food - only give as a rotational balanced diet.Samson says - Cod in Parsley Sauce yummm.

Hi try your cat with Webbox lick-e-lix can be bought from the Supermarket. Squash the tablet into a fine powder and mix it into the lick-e-lix.

My cat responds to a bit of boil in the bag fish in white sauce, and simple baby food ie lamb and vegetables (not with onion powder, check the ingredients). He will also eat good quality beefburgers, prawns and most white fish and bits of chicken and tuna (not in brine as salt is bad for them.) He will also lick plain yoghurt from a spoon. He drinks milk with water, not water on its own and refuses cat milk.

It is difficult and fiddly, but keep trying!

I have found it easier to give him what I eat (no I don't eat baby food) and very often have to hand feed him or he won't bother to eat.

My cat is very sick and is taking Prednicare plus a diuretic, and has no interest in any catfood. Best wishes ......

My 2 year old Staffi Warwick, as been on Prednicare
he takes 5qmg x 3 twice daily for 10 days, then 3 pills a day from then on for another 10 days. He is very thirsty and his breathing is shallow. Like others on here he also Pee's indoors again he never did it before, his skin condition as cleared so I'm taking the risk of stopping now and hope to have my dog back as he was. He won't even come when you call him,he also does not want to play or cuddle as he usually does.

My parents dog Maise has had prednicare. Your comment has confirmed my thoughts. Maise had been peeing on the carpet while drinking more. After she finshed her first course it went away. She has been taking the drug again and the uncontrolled peeing has come back again. She is allways a clean dog normally.

My cat has been put on Prednicare because of suspected tumours and not eating, just generally off colour, behaving suddenly like the old cat he is (he's 17). He's only been on the Prednicare for 3 days and it's like the clock has been turned back years. He's back to demanding (not asking!) his food, being affectionate and almost playful.
The question that seems to keep coming up here is how to get the tablets down - crush them between 2 teaspoons and sprinkle onto a little food to make sure they get all the tablet, then give them more food if they want some.

debbie i know how this is i have 8 cats with this problem, my vet has tested & treated, we now know what it is. It sounds the same as mine which is the corona virus, which can turn to fip which will kill. My cats get regular testing at glasgow university, Dianne addy is the formost vetinary for this disease and has spent 40yrs ,trying to find a cure, but none are available and nobody knows why or how the corona virus turns to fip. They can have or carry the virus all their lives, and never break out to fip,but the symptons you talk about are the same as mine. My vet reckons that the virus is in many many cats,we just dont know until something goes wrong, and the one thing that turns it into fip is stress, just like humans with cancer. Most catteries have cats with this disease. Mine get b12 every 3 months something to help them eat, and other medication to help the immune system. This can only be passed on if a cat is shredding continuously which is persistant sneezing or if they use a litter tray that they share. It can be lived with and i have a 22 year old and 2 16 year old, who apart from this at the moment are healthy. If they get anything at all, i am straight to the vets to get help for their immune system. Ask your vet about this horrible disease, or go to catster, where most of the carers of cats have either lost cats to fip, or live with the corona virus. Hope this helps. I wish i had known about it before,i might have saved the cat i lost.
