Pain Management Doctors Who Treat With Suboxone
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I am looking for a doctor in and around the Pennington Gap area or within 100 miles for pain management who will treat me with suboxone as I have tried other pain medicines which just leads to more problems. I have been in addiction treatment with this medication for two years now and has gave me my life back. It is not the best pain medication but I can function and not feel drugged up by it and can live a normal life the best it can be. I am 48 and have been told by the doctor my problems will only get worse as I get older and am disabled because of them. Because of all the drug abuse it is so hard to get help and this is why I went into the substance abuse program to begin with because I couldn't find a doctor. Please, I need some doctors listed that will treat long term with this medication as I am not looking for something to keep me numb and not able to function. Since I began this medication my life has improved so much in many ways compared to all the other medications they wanted me to take such as loratab, gabapenten, muscle relaxer, nurotin and many other that actually kept me in the bed for the most part. Please help and thank you for any information that may help.

U can google "suboxone doctors" and u will get all kinds of links..there a a few that r really good, most r, where u just put in ur city and state and choose within how many miles u want to search and u will get hundreds...then click on the dr, and there is usually their number and address...most of these Dr's, even if a pain management dr, don't wanna take insurance for their suboxone pts, even if they take insurance for other pts, won't if giving suboxone..if u were in a program, u know there r drs of all specialties certified to give suboxone now..some of them, even pain drs, only treat as suboxone drs now, I honestly believe it's all about money, these Dr's have found they can see pts and charge $300-$600 a visit cash and people will pay it and they don't have to take insurance because they know people with insurance will pay outta pocket...I think these Dr's doing it have truly forgot their oath and why they became a dr, I'm not saying suboxone isn't a good pain med, subutex is better, and neither numb pain like others, but ur right, at least can function, but I'm not saying it isn't a good med, I'm saying the medical profession and drs have taken this and turned it into a fast and easy way to make money, cash with less work, less outta pocket expenses...need fewer staff when not taking or billing insurance, they don't have to have licensed nurses or trained medical assistants, can hire someone with no training as their assistant, only need someone to take u/a's, no lab or blood...basically it's drs wanting to still be paid well for less work, and they have found they can charge 2-4 times for an office visit as they could when billing insurance because they knew insurance wouldn't pay those rates but desperate people will...nothing against u, it's a shame drs take advantage of people with true pain, true illness and disorders.

The biggest problem here is that you've been in the addiction treatment program and, even though it wasn't your intention, you've gotten yourself labeled as an addict in the government databases and your medical records.

With the laws that are currently in place, only a doctor that specializes in addiction treatment can prescribe it for that and it is going to be difficult to find another doctor that will prescribe it for you just for pain, because of the associated risks since you have the addict label now.

If you have an addiction specialist who is currently willing to treat you and not kick you out of their program, then it may be that the best thing you can do is to stay under their treatment program.

What types of symptoms did you have with the other medications that made you so miserable with them?
