Hello, Lisa! How are you?

I'm sorry, but there is no listing of doctors according to what they will or will not prescribe that I can refer to for you.

And due to the new regulations that were put in place last year, if you require such medications on a long-term, ongoing basis, you'll need to see a specialist.

Do you currently have a PCP that may be able to refer you to someone? If so, that would most likely be the easiest way to find the help you need.

Can anyone suggest a good doctor in that area?

There are no new regulations that state you must see a Pain Management Dr for chronic pain. Although it may be very difficult to find a pcp who will treat a new patient who has chronic pain. And finding a pcp who will treat a new medicaid patient for chronic pain may be next to impossible. There is no way to determine how a dr will treat your chronic pain. If you're a Medicaid patient, due to pressure from politicians in Washington, it is extremely difficult to find a dr who will treat your chronic pain. Put Texas Medicaid AND Pain Management in your search bar.

Look, don't let anyone scare you. Medicaid is a FEDERAL program, and I've heard the "politicians won't let you get pain meds" story. Bull. I live in the fastest growing (population) state in the NATION, and we have a great Medicaid system (considering, you know, it's free). You get to choose various insurance company's that have different programs available. For example: in my program, if I am "tense", they will pay for so many hours of horse back riding or painting lessons to "calm me". No, I'm NOT joking. Sure, a LOT of pcp's are NOT going to help you much. Mine gave me a month of what I was taking at the time, then referred me to a Pain Specialist. Turns out he isn't covered by my Medicaid/insurance provider--but after trying the company they DID send me too, I decided $120.00/month the out-of-network guy charged way ok. He has a law degree AND a medical degree (Anesthesiology) and is (you can tell in 5 minutes) a super-genius. He gives you what you need...but don't try to B.S. him. He will kick you to the curb. Still, he LISTENS, is willing to try new things, and tho his bedside manner is what I would describe as "cerebral" he's still a great doctor. Now, if I didn't WANT to go to him, I could go to one of the places my insurance company will pay for. But in my county it's all ONE company, and they are all jerks. The doc spent LESS than 10 seconds in the room and gave me a Rx I'm allergic to (that was charted). Bottom line: you'll GET help, just gotta look and ask.

oneminuszero, I don't know where you live. But, in most states Medicaid is reducing the amount of pain meds they will pay for for Medicaid Receipents for chronic pain. Louisiana Medicaid won't even pay for any form of chronic pain management. Not everyone on Medicaid has the money to pay out of pocket to see a private dr. And states are contacted each year and asked what they are going to do to Medicaid Providers who are high prescribers of pain meds and certain other meds. Put, Senator Charles Grassley and medicaid prescription drug abuse, in your search bar.
