Oxycontin/weed (Top voted first)

I'm on 5mg of oxycontin. I was wondering if it is ok to smoke cannabis while i'm on it?

I'm 56 years old and a bit anxious about using weed when I am taking Oxycodone. Thanks for all the information regarding smoking weed when you are on Oxycodone. I only smoke a joint about once a week but have just been put on Oxycodone for severe pain after 7½ years.

Smoking week is honestly the only thing which removes all the pain for me. Thanks for all the help.

I'm 58 and have been smoking pot, off and on, for 40 years. In the last 10 years, with regularity, but only 3-4 days a week, and only two or three hits off of a vaporizer.

During that time I've had 5 knee surgeries. I've been on some heavy duty painkillers at times and the only times I didn't smoke pot was while I was actually in the hospital. I bet I smoked more pot more frequently during my recuperations.

I'm fine. But I don't smoke cigarettes and I doubt I average a twelve pack of beer over a year's time. I eat healthy, staying away from processed foods.

That's my experience, I don't know how much you can relate to your own situation...

Wow. I'm reading this essentially because I have chronic pain and I mixed oxy and weed for the first time tonight. I didn't do it to get "high" I did it to alleviate pain.

@ Dante, your response was great because it explained just why occasionally I get this massive breakthrough pain. It has me climbing the walls in pain for about 10 minutes. Knowing that I should have the tablet before, wait a while, then light up, explains it all. A bit like getting too drunk either before or after smoking

I just love the internet and all the information you can glean and wish it had been around when I was much younger. Thanks to everyone; I've read all your response and appreciate all the input.

My doctor is aware that I smoke, but he also the the writer of the scripts. He's been witness to the pain and depression it's caused, and he has even given me his personal mobile number. He's a great guy.

Cannibis is still illegal here but it's still reasonably easy to get some. :)

Isn't that just sad! Pot is illegal and that highly addictive crap Oxy is not! This is our goverment working to serve the people, WTF?

Some people (like myself) become anxious and shaky when smoking weed. It didn't used to be this way, all those years of smoking probably just messed me up. But mixing the two would be OK, since the Oxycontin would counteract the agitation that the weed causes. The other effects of weed can only be enhanced and improved by mixing. I would say it was safe. Weed is also used in some countries as a painkiller (without overdose potential).

I smoke herb every day and do oxy with it. It's fine and enjoyable. Also use it with Benzos. No problems. But I don't mix the 3.

I totally agree with "Lady Rhinestone". I have chronic pain ,waiting to decide on having spinal fusion,already postponed surgery but in so much pain I am ready for surgery. Went to CVS for a refill of oxycodone 5mg. They were out of stock and been on b/o for 2 weeks.Had to have script filled at Walgreens which is out of ins. network .I had no choice but to pay extra due to pain. Also had to wait extra time because of DEA and state laws forcing background check. The abusers are really hurting the people in real pain.

I am on Oxy 10mg and Hydrocodone 10/325 for break through. I will be stopping the Hydro and take up Pot. I don't know who the hell you think you are to say I am abusing the system or making it hard for people like YOU AND ME to get the scripts filled. Don't talk down to the people that are doing things the right way. I agree with you that some people if not 90% of people on these pain meds do not need to be and are only looking for the "high". I would love to see them jailed and then some. But never say all of us are abusing the system!

@ Young42 - thank you for your response too. I'm not a heavy drinker either and pride myself on having a pretty healthy diet. I don't smoke normal cigarettes but simply enjoy the feelings that being high give me as well. Learning to love Santana only started when I was high and now, in a few weeks, I am going to see him live!

For the person who asked a few times where they could get Oxy 80's in the San Francisco area, you would have trouble getting them legally - that is the highest strength you can get them for pain via your doctor & they always start you on the lowest dose first to see what you can tolerate. Obviously someone out there would know where to get them illegally. I'm Down Under so I can't help.

Oh god!! don't do it!! I did and so did my best friend on separate occasions and both of us though we were a)going to have a heart attack b)going to faint and c)blacked out for a few minutes. I had to go outside (it was winter) in like -25 C in a tee shirt and get some fresh air and sit down and think about my life. I was frigged. I do not advise this! It was not at all fun! Scary if anything!!

Sometimes one or the other isnt enough and instead of taking a handful of pills they take less and smoke too. Not always to have fun.

And you ppl wonder why it's so tough for ppl to get oxycodone for "real" pain issues? It's ppl like YOU who use illegal substances with oxycodone that show you are only using it to get "high" and that causes the ppl who really need it to be drug tested, treated like a drug addict, and make it hard to find what they truly need. Unbelievable! So you ppl who are in "real" need of this medication..what do you think of someone who abuses the right to have oxycodone when using it with illegal substances. Oh..IT'S FUN! Are you kidding me? Here lies one of many of the answers for the problems obtaining oxycodone. Very infuriating!
