Lyrica Terrible Side Effects (Page 5)

Updated

Lyrica has ruined my life. It wasn't bad enough with the pain from my back injury. I only took Lyrica for 2 weeks. The weight gain was bad. I lost 1/3 of my hair in 4 months. I have had a rash for over 1 year now. I mean a bad rash. This was my first side effect. And they warn you of this. Get off Lyrica asap if you get a rash. I thought I was having a stroke the first week on Lyrica when they rushed me to the hospital. I had read on the internet of how many young people have died from strokes from taking Lyrica. My vision is so bad now. I can barely drive at night time and I have to were glasses to see the tv. The worst side effect I've had and still have is the terrible, terrible pain in all my joints. My knees are so bad and my hands and fingers & joints pound and throb 24-7. The swelling in my arms and hands was so bad at one time, I thought I would lose my limbs due to non circulation. The pain is so bad in my knees, I can barely walk everyday. I am self employed and I type and write all day. My hands hurt so bad. I can barely hold anything in the mornings to pin my hair up or put on my makeup. As bad as my pain was and is in my back and cyatic nerve the Lyrica did help. It was a miracle. But I only took it 2 weeks and after 1 year I still have all the terrible side effects. I've been looking on the internet for other peoples bad reactions and I was told by my doctor and the hospital, I had a very bad reaction to it. I've seen a lot of people say they have never got rid of the knee pain and joint pain. Very scary. I called the drug company that makes Lyrica. I told them the side effects that I was having and the first question they asked me was how was my eye sight. I had a fit. I told them the double vision and blurry vision was bad. They made the comment to me that Pifzer was doing a study on this side effect. I was in an automobile accident, that was bad enough, but this drug Lyrica has ruined my life and there is no cure. There are numerous law suits against this drug. I will never be the same again!

The recommended dose range of LYRICA for the treatment of neuropathic pain associated with spinal cord injury is 150 to 600 mg/day. I was not overdosing myself at all. Different recommended dosages for different conditions...My doctor was prescribing within the proper dosage limitations supplied by the drug company.

Michelle....I can so totally relate to all your saying and will add that I for instance prior to taking the garbage, would have been able to type this 1-2-3 no prob, it's taking all I have to be able to focus enough to figure out what the H I'm trying to say, AND also to see the keyboard!! I am basically a zombie walking around that is when I CAN walk around. I could go on and on about what this drug has done and I truly feel that all of the side effects including the addictive potential HAD to be known, but even if there is a class action law suit, because of the massive amount of money they made, it wouldn't even make a dent, so they don't care!!
When I try to get off this poison, I may as well just sign up for voluntary torture. It's horrid!!
I am SO angry and feel powerless with this situation. It is slowly ruining my life, and I don't know what to do anymore.
SO very glad I found this forum! We all need to stick together and hopefully with the support we can get what's left of our lives back!!

Many years after I broke my tailbone and three discs, I suddenly developed an acute chronic left leg pain which I thought was a pinched sciatic nerve and bursitis. In the hospital four years ago, I was put on Lyrica taken three times per day. I now know that this was both the wrong pill and the wrong diagnosis. Lyrica nearly killed me. As if my chronic pain and horrific side effects were not enough, my bowels shut down almost completely. I still had to eat, but I was so blocked I went through a period of continuous vomiting. After many X-rays and trips to the Emergency, there was not a doctor in the big city who could of how to make my bowels work. I looked like I was about to deliver a baby I was so backed up. Eventually, a surgeon told me to " go home and live like this, a lot of people do". With no where else to turn, I went home. Vomiting became a way of life, joining up with the agonizing pain in my leg. Each time I vomited, it would take many days to tolerate eating again. I did not notice at first, but I began to lose weight. People began to notice and even strangers would compliment my slim figure. I was no longer taking Lyrica but my conflict with nourishing food remained a continuous problem. I stopped vomiting so much, but my digestion was terrible and I found myself on the verge of nausea 24 hours per day. This past CHRISTMAS dropped by one evening and found me very sick, cold, and with a fever. I was taken to the hospital that night where I was admitted. Everyone could see I was starting to look like a living skeleton. Believe it or not, to ease my nausea they put me on a fast over the Christmas holidays. I did accept some hydromorphone for pain, but refused very pill offered to me. So they concluded that I had developed PTSD regarding all pills taken by mouth. The doctors would get mad at me for not taking their pills, and sent me home. All the doctor could say is "this is such a shame, we do not know how to help you".

I have the same problem as you do but I found a way around it by taking 30ML/1 tablespoon every six hours of LACTULOSE 10GM/15 SOL #4500. Get your doctor to give you a prescription for that and it might take a few days to work like it did for me. I'll pray for you and God bless you.

I think lyrica is fantastic !.....I was on Quetiapine and Diazepam for 6 years..when I woke in the morning I felt comatised. Quetiapine is a terrible drug. When I finally did get up I was moody as hell. My partner had to put up with me being snappy and moody for about 2 hours every morning. I felt so guilty that she had to go through that but I couldn't help the moods...anyway, one Friday I go to collect my routine prescription of Quetiapine and Diazepam. I get home put the meds on the side as I do. Bed time comes I open my box of Quetiapine and there's pills ive never heard of before called pregabalin! I cant go bk to the chemist till monday and I can't sleep without my Quetiapine!! So I take 500mg of pregabalin...not only was it the most euphoric, enjoyable night of my life but the next morning for the first time in years I woke at about 7am with a big grin on my face as fresh as a daisy . My gf couldn't believe it...so the second night I took 500mg again and the same results ! I went straight to the docs that monday and told the doc...he started me on 75mg a day and increased it gradually and im now on 450mg a day. I no longer take them awful Quetiapine, ive halfed my dose of Diazepam and no longer take it every day, only as and when needed ( usually 3 to 4 days ) and most importantly my relationship has blossomed.... looking bk I dont know how my gf stuck by me. But she did and im thankful for that. She now gets to see the real me....happy bubbly and not moody.....I think it was no coincidence the pharmacist mixed my prescription up on that day and im eternally gratful she did ! Pregabalin works wonders for me..:-)

Danny, I sent you a reply which didn't go thru. I said I hope you are not working on behalf of the lab which makes this chemical concoction which has ruined so many lives, including mine. You haven't been on pregabolin very long & you are on a very high dose. But just wait till you lose peripheral vision, balance, can't drive, gain a ton of weight, & your teeth crumble & or fall out. You seem more concerned that your girlfriend likes you better, than all the heart wrenching stories users have shared online. Did you do any research? Sure wish I had but I was put on this poison while in hospital. The hospital brought in pain drs secretly, never telling me who they were, never revealing the monster side effects pregabolin would likely cause & they did. I still have debilitating pain which means I have to spend almost all of my time in bed. To repeat, you better not be writing on behalf of the lab in honor of those of us who have no lives left to live. Tell the truth about how you are really doing in a few months and I will pray for you Danny.

I was driving to work and did not know how I got there, I was doing a lot of things without knowing I did them and my memory is still not working right. My eye site is worse, and my Hair loss finally stopped months after I stopped taking Lyrica. This is a very bad drug and I just took it for 3 months and still not right and it has been almost a year since I last took it

I have got side effects from Lyrica, but they are different than yours. Lots of swelling. I've found it's probably lymphedema which are skin reactions in the form looking like a boil & is full of clear/yellowish fluid. They are sore because of swelling from knees to big toe!!!

I take Lyrica for Fibromyalgia pain. It's been my saving grace. I am on 150mg 3 times a day. The first week of starting Lyrica I felt a little lightheaded, forgetful, and emotional. Now I feel human again for the first time in years. There is good and bad with all medications and we make the choice to put them into our body. The warnings of Lyrica are very clear and unfortunately some suffer the bad side of the drug. This alone is not enough to pull the drug off the market. Any medicine can cause a reaction for one person and then work great for the next. Lyrica has literally given me my life back. I wish it was that way for everyone.

Everyone reacts different to this toxic drug. Lets not forget its a bandaid to the real cause of this disease, most drugs are. The law states ( because the Pharm Co.s lobbied to make it a law) that no disease can be cured, unless its with an oil based, synthetic product pill, thats the law. Dr. Koch was curing pancreatic cancer from his clinic in the 1970s in Houston with Glyoxylide injections. This created more carbonyls which hold more oxygen in the body- creating an alkaline body. Thats the Key. Pills WILL NOT cure us and we must have advised consent before we take anything. I kept telling my dr that I didn't want to go on this again and he insisted. They Practice for a reason. Sorry for your issues, I know its challenging for all FM' ers hang in there!

I can relate for I to took lyrica for nerve pain from spinal issue. Iwas on the medicine from the 10th- 26 th of March 2015. I was told by the phARMASIST TO GO STRAIGHT URGENT CARE WHO REFUSED TO SEE ME DUT TO THE FACT THEY DON'T SEE YOU IF YOU ARE HAVING SIDEE EFFECTS TO MEDICATION. WHAT A CROCK! SO OFF TO THE ER got RIGHT I N JUST TO WAIT 5 1/2 HRS TO RECEIVE A DIAGNOSIS OF SHORTNESS OF BREATH. ALTHOUGH NO TREATMENT GIVEN EVEN FOR THAT. , OR FOR THE SWELLING OF ALL MY EXTREMITIES AND ABDOMEN, UNCONTROLLABLE JERKING AND SHAKING, POOR COORDINATION AND UNSTEADINESS, CONFUSION, MEMORY LOSS AND HANDWRITING BEING EFFECTED. I am curious what treatment was given you to combat your sypmtoms? Do you have an attorney. If this doen't all clear up I am hiring one and filing formal complaint with the State board of Health and physicians. I reported the side effects to FDA as well as PHIZER. Sorry for the all the mistakes in this typing,to eheausted to start over.

I am in the process of going off the Lyrica... been taking 350 mg daily for sometime, but the recent increase of 50 mg set over the top and I was hospitalized with suicidal ideation/thinking.. the inability to sleep. I've never been in a mental health psyc ward before, it was a horrible experience! I see here that several people have been helped by Lyrica... and many more have had disastrous experiences.. life threating.. I would add my name to a law suite if I thought it would help, but I suspect that the odds are against us. Everyone reacts to medication differently, chemistry at work, and the fact that Lyrica helps others... the warning on the medication should be taken seriously. Buyer beware!! We need not trust our doctors to know everything, I've just learned that I need to be the best advocate for myself even more.. I need to always remember that, not to trust the doctors to know what they are doing with my own body. With this experience, the hospitalization, it has taught me to research everything before I take medication, making sure I am willing to take the risk of taking something. I learned a big lesson the hard way!!

I took one dose of Lyrica, 75 mg one morning. Within 45 minutes I was acting like a drunk. I could not walk straight, my speech was slurred and I talked very loudly. My body jerked, my extremities on both sides jerked at the same time, continuously. I could not focus at all, neither close up or far away, I needed help to walk because my legs wouldn't lift properly although they felt like they were. That was the end of November or the first part of December and this is may of 2015. Within 6 hours or so I was back to somewhat normal except neither of my legs were steady. That took a few more hours. I slept alot that first day. I still have severe twitches in my fingers and sometimes my hands. I have no control when I am going to twitch but I have found that repetition of 3 times or more of one action I start twitching - 90% of the time. This means typing is alot more time consuming, drawing blood at my job is impossible after drawing the first 3 patients; texting and dialing takes alot of time because I can never hit the right keys, numbers the first couple times around. The twitching is even worse when I drink coffee, am overly tired, when I concentrate on something that uses my fine motor skills and when I am not feeling well. I can never carry a plate with food on it with out my hand trembling. Sometimes, but not as often my twitches start when I am doing nothing. I can't stop the twiches with my other twitchy fingers but they all twitch more. I thought these twitches would go away with time but it doesn't look like that is going to happen, if anything they have gotten worse - but that may be only because I pay attention to them more. They always feel like they want to twitch even when they don't. ALWAYS. These symptoms NEVER occured before the Lyrica, ever. Has anyone else had this experience and does it ever go away?
