Long Term Use Of Atenolol
(Newest replies first)

Updated

Eight years back, while commuting to my workplace (40 km's away) by a train, I suddenly got fatigued and caught a blackout while getting up from my seat. A friend of mine immediately rushed me to a nearby Doctor, who after checking my BP (180/120) prescribed Atenolol and some sedatives to me He said that I have to take Atenolol for whole life, and I am following the same. Will somebody guide me, whether I am doing the right thing or must I take a second opinion now after getting checked my heart's functioning. I don't have any trouble with my heart but if anyday due to oversight I forget to take the medicine, I feel uneasiness in my head. I feel I have become addictive to this drug. Please help.

Any doctor that prescribes Atenolol should be held accountable! That garbage is poison AND COULD KILL YOU!

Depending on how long you have been taking it I would tell the doctor to put on something else. There are much better newer drug than Atenolol, I take another drug for blood pressure. I take atenolol to stabilize heart rate. I have the Same weird feeling if I go more than a day. Talk to your doctor Asap

Atenolol
You will get addictive to it. I have been taking it 40 years. I have nothing wrong with my heart but a problem with the regulating heart rate, a brain problem that, they think was caused be rumatic fever when I was little. I live a fairly normal life, work on my tiny farm, cut trees down, normal thing. It was the only thing that work for me and still does. I don,t know if their are newer better drugs but Some people do have side affect, but I would sure check. Good Luck

I have been taking Atenolol 50 mg once a day since 1985 and i missed a dose. I can feel the difference. My head feels funny and I feel panicky. I know how you feel. I try taking it at the same time every night. If i wasn't on it for so many years i would try going off it. I have a new doctor now and she said they have other BP meds im too scared to try. I take Atenolol for blood pressure and palpitations.

Hiya Sanjit. I took Atenolol and other prescribed medications for high blood pressure for 15 years and now suffer with arterial constriction in legs and arms causing tingling, pain especially thru the night and heaviness in legs. I can no longer ride my bike, swim or keep up with my grandsons. I am 56!!! Please read 'The Great Blood Pressure Hoax' before taking anything. I no longer take any prescribed medications and follow a healthy eating and exercise regime and my blood pressure is lower than it was on Atenolol!!! Still have the constricted arteries tho!

Bull...i stopped them after taking 3 months started feeling like I had the Flu! Rashes, muscle aches, arthritic symptoms, and when my healthy beautiful teeth and gums started bleeding I was done with this POISON! DOCTORS NEED TO STUDY MEDS, THEY DON'T AND I'M SICK TO DEATH OF THEIR ATTITUDE YOU ARE SENSITIVE; No it's the crap in the drugs! Took 4 months for symptoms to subside.

Do not stop taking Atenolol without your doctor knowing.

Hi, I'm 67 and have been taking 100 MG of Atenolol a day since I was 28. Check with your doctor if he can't give you a newer drug that works good without nausea and stomach problems or add something to stop the other problems. Atenolol is a very old drug but its cheap and works great for many people. May be easy problem to fix but talk to your doctorsoon he might want to change to something else rather than cause you more problems

Omg....I stopped that poison pill after 2 months. I had more issues with my overall health that were scary. Was fine before I started atenolol except for elevated BP. Overall I rather die than take the lethal drug! Doctors should use these pills than they would know how it destroys your well being.

Simple...why am I having horrible nausea 3 hrs after I take 12.5 mg of ATENOLOL. I take at 9:30 am. It's awful and lasts until around 10 pm at night. No way to live...it's awful. On it now 2 months. I have been on every class of BP drugs and this is my last choice.
