Doctor In Austin

I am looking for a doctor in Austin Texas that will prescribe methadone. all i am finding are methadone clinics. i have a great job and insurance

Have tried to get in to see a pain management doctor. There are clinic that specialize in pain and they should be able to prescribe methadone. I might be moving to Austin and I am facing the same problem. I saw a clinic called Austin Pain Associates that might be able to help. You might give them a call.

Just to inform both of you, Theresa and Mirth…

If you need it for pain, then any doctor can prescribe it. However, if it is for addiction treatment, then a clinic is the only option, regular doctors aren't allowed to prescribe it for that.

The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Can anyone recommend a good doctor in that area?

Forget Austin Pain Associates, now Pain Doctors. They used to be great, but are weaning everyone regardless of your condition. I pay out of pocket while looking for a doctor who will consider my condition and not govt numbers. If I find someone I will share. The testing proves my conditions, but that doesn't seem to matter. I'm not an addict, but questioned my MD about methadone as I heard it helped pain, but has some sort of blocker. MD said no before the words were out of my mouth. My fear is that after phasing back to being self sufficient I'm going to end up bed ridden again as they are lowering doses of medication that had me stabilized.
