Zoloft + Lethargy
UpdatedHi, all.
I'm just beginning my third month of Zoloft and it's been quite a ride. First few weeks and as my dose increased, I had nearly every side effect listed: headache, nausea, dreams, dry mouth etc., but about week three I started "smelling the roses." I remember thinking I got my life back. I honestly still think it saved my life.
Then for a solid 1.5 weeks, out of nowhere, I couldn't fall asleep longer than 2hrs a night. I would sleep 2 hrs and wake up and that was it. That's NOT like me, at all. Eventually, that passed. The fun Zoloft dreams ended about the same time.
Now, I just feel totally lethargic. My #1 fav thing to do is lay in bed, lights off. I even called off work to do this all day yesterday. I had stuff to do to prep for work, decided I'd rather not, went to bed for ~36 hours. Before Zoloft, I worked out every day, mainly to combat depression. Now, I just want to sleep.
So I'm afraid to mess w/ dosage because I do feel mentally stable, and not as flat as I was when depressed (I never felt joyful or empathetic and basically was a workaholic shell) but I don't tolerate Wellbutrin well. Wellbutrin made me extremely on-edge and impulsive. I'm wondering if anyone's gone through similar things, and if there's any "upper" milder than Wellbutrin to make me less lethargic?

Hello, Jill! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem that you're having.
However, I can tell you that I also experienced the same thing, when taking Zoloft. I couldn't stay awake or get motivated to do anything, it was horrible. Interestingly enough, my fiancé takes it with no adverse issues, go figure.
Anyway, what I found that worked better for me is Prozac. It's also an SSRI, but is known to cause less side effects than most of the others, it doesn't even usually cause the weight gain that they do. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight loss.
You could ask your doctor about trying it.
Does anyone else have any suggestions?
