What Is The Best Generic Version Of Wellbutrin Xl - Watson Or Anchen? (Page 66)
UpdatedMy doctor will not prescribe generic Wellbutrin XL but my insurance will no longer pay for brand name drugs. I will have to pay about $7000 per yer for what I am taking now (3 of the 150mg Wellbutrin XL brand name per day). I am reading that the problem with the generics is the time release mechanism and not the drug itself and that some are better than others. Anybody have experience with the generics made by Watson and /or Anchen?
I have changes my prescriptions to Sam's club. They do not indicate the manufacture of the medications on the labels. How do I find out the manufactures name.
I had a very similar reaction to Activis. I found out that I was allergic to it, I would take the pill and than about an hour after taking it I couldn't keep my eyes open. I feel foggy all day, couldn't concentrate, was depressed. I am now on the generic manufactured by Par and I am doing great. I haven't felt this good in years.
Anyone know which pharmacy uses Par generic bupropion ? I have tried cvs Walgreens and Walmart and they all use Actavis .
I have called almost every pharmacy in my are area to ask which one they carry. I got Par at CVS about six months ago. It doesn't work for me.
This same thing happened to me. It was awful. Mylan was ok but no where near as effective as actavis 141 tablet. I'm on to trying Par.
I had this same problem and called the mail pharmacy through my insurance company. Now I get 90 pars mauled to me every three months. Most insurance companies have a pharmacy number on the back of the card. Hope it helps.
In my area, Safeway and Bartells. Really miss my Actavis 141.=(
Costco has generic Wellbutrin (Bupropion) and the label says the manufacturer is Anchen, which as far as I can tell is part of Par Pharmaceutical. I don't know if Costco gets the same generic medications at all locations though - it is likely it varies per region - I'm in Washington. Personally this specific generic is not agreeing with me, I'm having exaggerated symptoms I didn't have while on the name brand, which I was able to get from Direct Success until they discontinued their program this year. I seem to be really sensitive to certain meds and slight changes in their composition. I've had this issue with a couple other medications over the years too. Not sure what I'm going to do now.
Has anyone experienced cognition issues such as short term memory loss, difficulty with information recall, etc... on brand name Wellbutrin 300 XL, especially those who have either been on it for 10+ years and/or went off & back on meds a few times over the years? If so, have you found anything that helps and doesn't have negative interaction with WB? Thanks in advance for any help or insight you can provide!
WOW....I just spent 6 hrs looking into all ingredient listings for the generics of Wellbutrin XL 150mg. I've taken both the 150 & 300 dosages of BRAND since it was GSK.(I had rcvd a waiver fr ins for brand as my Dr established she had many patients that did not do well on generic). Btw.....this was all around the time of the Teva recall. So as with many of you, my ins is no longer allowing such & cost is exorbitant. I did the Direct Success thing starting 8/2016, with last fill being 11/2016. I decided I just wasn't doing so well & to avoid all of what I'm now doing..I tried Adderall for 7 weeks. Disaster. ("Crashes" were ridiculous at a VERY low dose). I began to read others reporting that Valeant fr Canada was ineffective. Ah-hah!!!! Got my bottle-yep, last fill was manuf in Canada. So I began my research into the ingredient listings of many manufacturers INCLUDING the original GSK, Valeant, Teva/Actavis (JUNK), Mylan, Watson, Sandoz (which I can't quite deduce if they actually have an XL version or just IR & SR), and the bottle I now have which was filled 12/2015 (in error of brand)-bottle says "PAR Pharm", but pills marked "A 101"......WHICH identify as Anchen. I do know Par purchased Anchen. So here's the short story: Valeant Canada's ingredients really ARE those of GSK.....and Par (pills marked A 101 are really Anchen) comes in closest by miles. I have been taking the expired ones I have & have improved but w/awful dry mouth. But I do still have Valeant that are not expired & am going to try those beginning tomorrow. I did not bother to look up Sun or Cipla because I just didn't. Once I experiment with my UNexpired Valeant fr Direct Success I'm going to call & see about their latest promotion. (Have ins through husband's work). IF I find the pills effective I will continuously expend all efforts to get them. If not -I think I'll be asking for PAR. I REALLY hope this helps someone. You're not crazy if you find your med ineffective. Nor am I. I've just educated myself on the EXACT ingredient listings & they're different. A lot. I've never posted on anything, but after searching so long & reading comments of those who'd taken their time to share, I couldn't not share what I've gleaned.
Isn't Par the one that let you gain weight. I gain tons of weight on it... gym wasn't even helping. Mylan and Activis didn't affect my weight at all. I lost weight
You know what Susie-I have not taken it long enough, but according to my research on ingred, Par doesn't contain talc amongst a host of other "inactive" ingred that the others do & also DOES contain ingredients most similar to brand. But right about now I'm getting so fed up (like everyone else). This is truly beyond ridiculous. Yest & today I tried my unexpired Valient fr Canada XL 150 again & felt just plain weird, along w/a distinct neck pain as others have written about. And I wore my dental night guard so no clenching. Also was nauseous. IDK....I'm going to go back to the PAR tomorrow & keep on it some more. Will keep you posted. I KNOW for sure that when I took the original GSK, I felt better within TWO days both times I went back on it. That's the only fact I've got.
Oh I am so sorry to hear that. Par worked really well for me except for the weight gain, which is depressive in itself. Can't stand it
Weird! I've lost 62lbs since being on PARfor a few months. It suppresses my appetite where I eat smaller portions and don't want junk food. It's the best brand I've found outside of the the actually name brand.
I have found that I need to take a generic version of the drug for at least a month before I can tell if it's working, or if it has negative side effects. I have refilled each generic two times before I determined if its effectiveness or side effect were just temporary. In the case of Par, I developed side effects later. I have also tried Actavis two separate times for at least two months each, and Mylan for several months. I'm back on the brand name now.
Thank you KM. That's an encouraging counter to what Susie experienced!
Weight loss is not a concern for me, but gaining weight sure won't help my depression and anxiety!!! Since the discussion is about which generic....I'd love to see a huge # of replies come in & see about any kind of general consensus. Sure I understand "diff meds work for diff people", but this is way beyond. I wanna hear from those who do well on bupropion XL & which manufacturer!!!! As a side note-in a few comments, people mentioned they'd love to have their Valeant from Canada Wellbutrin analyzed for its composition. Boy would I welcome that ! I think I'm going to inquire unless someone knows-who can do that. I'm already in it THIS far! Btw.....I am a 46 yr old female if that's of anyone's interest in comparing.
Crosbysmom-is your brand Valeant & does the paperwork on the bottle say it's manufactured in Canada? Also-will you specify what's stamped on the pill? Thx!
KM & Susie.....will you respond with what's stamped on your pills? Thx!!
The funny thing is that I was taking celexa & saw weight gain. Doctor prescribed wellbutrin cause it will let me lose weight. I gained so much weight in so little time even though my appetite was suppressed & I was exercising. That's on the Par brand. One good thing though is that my libido that was affected by the Celexa was turned up with the wellbutrin. It really brought the pleasure back for me. Wish I could find the perfect combination. If anyone know how I can get the brand name on a discount...please let me know.
Ordered brand name Wellbutrin XL through Direct Success using the most recent Valeant co-pay discount. I have insurance through work, but they will not cover brand name at all. Direct Success ran my information and I will be receiving the brand name again for $100/month. It is more than what I was paying before through Direct Success, but far better than the $1500/month for brand name. Their number is 877-404-3338.
