Tramadol Not Effective
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I have taken Tramadol, manufactured by Apotex, for the past nine months. Together, my neurostimlator and 200 mg. of Tramadol per day helped me to be virtually pain free! I renewed my Tramadol prescription last week and the new prescription says Tramadol, but this time the manufacturer is TEVA. This time, I continue to have pain and it is now the second week, and I am feeling intense pain. It is as if I was not taking any pain medication at all (my stimulator continues to work, but no one is ever promised that a neurostimulator will rid anyone of all pain. I have a friend who was switched to Tramadol from Apotex Manufacturing (the exact one I had for nine months) and is now taking Tramadol manufactured by TEVA. She is finding the same problem; it will not rid her of the pain she suffers. What on earth do we do!? Is this a misrepresentation of ingredients? I have heard that a U.S. manufacturer may get the actual ingredients from another country. Is this the case? SOS!

Tried Nucynta while waiting for special order Tramadol NorthStar(which works) , nucynta was more expensive and more pills while less effective.

I had the same result. I want the medecine tested to find out what is actually inside. I was taking it from North Star mfg. The pharmacy said they must special order it for only me as they had changed suppliers. I disagree with the variation comment as I was double dosing with still no effects! Sounds more like a medical experiment!

I too, have the same results as you, when taking the Tramadol by Teva! Have been on generic Tramadol for years, and never had a problem. At first, thought I was just hurting more because of the weather. But as the pain gets worse, the longer I am taking the Teva brand, come to realize, it's the Teva Tramadol that is eneffective! Next refill will not be the Teva brand!!!

I posted this under another topic accidentally, but it applies here as well.

I have also experienced issues with generic diltiazem not being the same. I take Diltiazem ER 180 which is the CD equivalent, but have run into problems generics, specifically with Teva brand with several types of meds. All generics are definitely not the same. I now have to specify the Actavis brand when ordering my diltiazem. I monitor my BP several times during the day, and the Teva brand literally does not bring down my BP. My pharmacist did not believe me, so now instead of buying my BP meds at costco at a much cheaper price, I have to buy them at walmart and make sure that they aren't giving me Teva brand. I have also had similar issues but to a lesser degree with other meds, so now I totally stay away from anything Teva. My pharmacist now tells me that some folks insist on Teva, so I can only chalk it up to biochemical individuality and go with what works for my body.

Actually, it probably just has to do with the normal variation allowances that the FDA permits in generic medications. By law, they are allowed to differ from their name brand counterparts by as much as plus or minus 20% in the active ingredient.

So, when you were taking the Apotex one, you may have been getting the full dosage, but due to such variations, you may not be getting as much of a dosage in the ones made by TEVA.

You can try talking to your pharmacy or calling others and see if they carry the other one, so you can get it again or you can ask your doctor to write the prescription as brand medically necessary to try and avoid this.
