Folks, Suprep isn't neccessary. I guarantee if you use Bisacodyl(Dulcolax) and Magnesium Citrate(clear citrus flavor), there will be no difference from Suprep. The Mayo Clinic and many other facilities use this method because it's cheap and it works very well. It's available over the counter at any pharmacy. The evening before the colonoscopy, you take 4 Bisacodyl tablets followed by 1 bottle of Mag Citrate. Drink plenty of clear fluids. You repeat this again 6 hours before the colonoscopy. No more fluids 4 hours before the colonoscopy. It's $10 for this vs $100 for Suprep. If your doctor won't let you prep this way, he's a quack after your insurance money.

Personally, I would not waste your money on the Suprep Bowel Prep Kit by Braintree Labs. I had my third colonoscopy in 11 years yesterday. The first two were successful using the Ducolex and Magnesium Citrate cleanse which took longer, but I definitely had better results. My doctor recommended Suprep Bowel Prep Kit this time around claiming it's the best there is now. I followed the instructions spot on, but the doctor said the right side of my colon was not clean and they could not get through it. So, I get to do it again in two years! Next time my insurance won't pay for it either. My doctor did say that she had only seen this happen five times in the two years she changed to this prep for her patients. I will not waste my money on Suprep the next time!

I used the first dose of Suprep about 1 1/2 hours ago. I freaked out all day, thinking it was going to be nasty tasting, I'd vomit, etc. First of all, I put the 2 bottles in the fridge and got them cold. I mixed it with water and kept that in the fridge for about an hour. I drank the 16oz with a straw and was able to drink it without stopping. I then drank 16 oz of plain water as instructed, and about 15 minutes later, I drank the 2nd 16 oz of water. I haven't had a bowel movement yet, but so far I feel fine. I have some electrolyte replacement drinks, as I understand it needs replenishment after using Suprep. I had a colonscopy 10 years ago, and had to drink 2 gallons of stuff, that I flavored with "orange creamsicle' mix. I have never been able to eat another orange creamsicle to this day. Suprep is a VAST improvement over what has been avavilable to us in the past. It's not a pleasant thing, but it's not bad!!! I think the coldness and the straw were the tricks that made it ok! Now if the BM's start, I'll be half way home!

Over the counter magnesium citrate and bisacodyl laxative are all that's needed to clean your colon prior to a colonoscopy. It has been used as a standard prep for years. The prescription is an unnecessary rip off. So is a colonoscopy in most cases.

I am starting my Suprep regiment tonight... have to say, I'm not looking forward to it. This will be my 3rd colonoscopy (one every 5 years). I appreciate the advice and suggestions provided by other users. My only complaint (as I see others have) is the price. Even with my insurance copay, the cost was $60. Luckily, I can afford it but what about all those out there who need the test but can't afford the price. I certainly wasn't happy about the $60 and don't understand why medical insurance doesn't cover more of it. I guess it makes more sense to spend tens of thousands of dollars on surgery and chemotherapy as a treatment then to cover another 30-40 dollars off of the prevention -- Go figure these insurance companies!!!!! I was a little peeved that my physician didn't give me an option as to what I could take as a prep.

Sadly, while big pharma rips us off, insurance companies are paying less than ever on prescriptions. I have HealthNet - a Medicare PPO. They paid $28, I paid $70—with a doctor-provided coupon for this stuff. The packaging, directions, handful of mineral salts, 2 bottles of distilled water and plastic cup couldn't have cost the manufacturer more than $5. It turns out that taking it in the rear begins days before your colonoscopy!

I just bought one suprep kit and it was $40 with insurance. This is just a mixture of laxative salts and this price is outrageous. This company is ripping off the poor consumers.

I am finally on Medicare. Believing that now that I am old and because I am doing a cautionary procedure things will be much less. However, I never would have predicted that with my insurance coverage and Medicare a simple tiny box of chemicals that I have to add 'my' water to would cost so much! What is wrong with our pharmaceutical companies and our doctors who prescribe such expensive chemistry.

Try calling your RX plan and asking them if you can get the prep pre approved (even after you have purchased it) by having your doctor's office contact them saying this is the preferred method because of the lack of sodium and your health etc. The RX plan might approve it as a preferred med due to doctor's recommendation and your health condition.

My 70 year old husband called his doctor after finding out the $100 price of suprep. The doctor told him to come in and he gave him a free sample. I think the cost of suprep is one reason that medical costs are so high. That company is part of the problem. The sales reps give drs samples and ask them to prescribe suprep. Most people get it through their insurance.. So the dr and the company are bilking insurance companies with this product and it's inflated price. A normal laxative costs $5 for any other surgery.

Age 70 and had my first colonoscopy today. Put it off due to the nasty"prep".I mixed the two bottles with Crystal Light peach tea and used peach tea as the "chaser". Suprep mixed with Crystal Light did not taste that bad. Dr. gave me a professional sample. Humana Medicare Advantage is $45.

The second dose 6 hours after the first really did the trick. I had a little cramping through the night, but not bad.

If you have part D medical insurance, it will pay for most of it. I have Humana and it cost me 6.50.

I called the doctors office...told them I’m NOT shelling out $140 for this prep since I’m on social security and have NO RX INSURANCE. They said NO PROBLEM....just go buy 6 tablets of Dulcolaxlaxative” - not the softener (generic is ok) and an 8 oz container of Miralax powder (again, generic is fine)....then she gave me the instructions on how and when. She said they prescribe the Surprep because the regimen & time frame of taking it is simpler than the tablets with the miralax.

I posted earlier in the year when I used the Suprep. I failed to mention that I filled the prescription at a Sam's club, which was the cheapest I could find. Walgreens, Rite Aid and my local pharmacy were close to $100.00. The Dr gave me a $10.00 coupon to use and with my insurance, I paid $45.00 for the Suprep. It IS a high price, but opposed to the 2 gallon prep, I found it to be worth it. I'm sure that the 2 gallon option is offered to everyone or maybe 1 gallon of "golightly" and a bottle of citric magnesium. My Dr always insists that his patients are "thoroughly" cleaned out and a lesser preparation left a "film" on the camera lense. The first colonoscopy I had , 10 years ago, was the 2 gallon deal, and coming out of the anesthetic, my friend told me I asked the Dr if he had ever heard of "Rain-Ex", and why didn't he just spray his camera lense with it, and use a more humane means of preparation. I was told he just laughed and shook his head and walked away. Suprep is a big, big improvement over preps that have been is use for a long time. The cost, to me, was well worth the agony of using an older prep.

Where does it costs $45.00? I just left Walmart in PA, couldn't buy it. It costs almost $94.00. Today is February 17, 2015.

What a BRILLIANT BIG PHARMA RIP-OFF!!! I had to clean out for major bowel surgery 10 years ago, and the prep was FOUR DOLLARS OTC!!!

So the wonderful people at BRAINTREE put the EXACT SAME INGREDIENTS in a little kit and charge damn near one hundred dollars???

And to SUCK YOU IN, they give you a "discount coupon", because they are "so generous! People, PLEASE use the Magnesium Citrate and dulcolax as instructed online instead.

The Mag Citrate is 98 cents at Walmart and you can get a house brand of dulcolax as well! BTW, I am a nurse!

I just picked up my Suprep prescription that was called in to Walmart by my doctor's office. I was stunned to hear my discounted cost would be $92.93 for the two little bottles and a plastic glass. Absolute rip-off. My doctor will get an earful from me because he switched me from a prep costing less than $10 to this rip-off price from Walmart.
