I've done some searching, but I am sorry, I didn't find anything for patient assistance.

Since this is a laxative that is used to to clean out the colon in preparation for certain tests and medical procedures, it is generally a once time purchase and most manufacturers of these products don't offer assistance by way of programs or coupons, because it isn't consider life sustaining and isn't something you are going to be using regularly.

There are, however, other alternatives on the market, most doctors just prefer this one, because it is new and contains no sodium phosphate.

Have you tried asking your doctor about something else you can use, that would be cheaper?

Try calling your RX plan and asking them if you can get the prep pre approved (even after you have purchased it) by having your doctor's office contact them saying this is the preferred method because of the lack of sodium and your health etc. The RX plan might approve it as a preferred med due to doctor's recommendation and your health condition.

I just had a colonoscopy and used the SuPrep Kit which I paid $45.00 using a $10.00 coupon my doctor's office gave me with this prescription. Normally it would've cost $55.00 at Walgreens. I've been seeing amounts over $70.00 -- something is wrong with this amount -- too much!!! I thought $45.00 was too much. Stuff tastes like poison but I guess it works. I was able to down the evening before the morning one I threw up!

My 70 year old husband called his doctor after finding out the $100 price of suprep. The doctor told him to come in and he gave him a free sample. I think the cost of suprep is one reason that medical costs are so high. That company is part of the problem. The sales reps give drs samples and ask them to prescribe suprep. Most people get it through their insurance.. So the dr and the company are bilking insurance companies with this product and it's inflated price. A normal laxative costs $5 for any other surgery.

I just bought one suprep kit and it was $40 with insurance. This is just a mixture of laxative salts and this price is outrageous. This company is ripping off the poor consumers.

My husband's doctor gave him a coupon for Suprep : 20% off the prescription up to a maximum of $10.00 The (Medicare Advantage plan) copayment was $71.25!

The coup de grace was the fine print on the coupon which read "not valid for prescriptions reimbursed under Medicare, Medicaid or any other federal or state program..." I agree completely that this is a huge ripoff. The whole idea that a medication costs twenty times the original amount because one ingredient was removed just floors me!

I used the first dose of Suprep about 1 1/2 hours ago. I freaked out all day, thinking it was going to be nasty tasting, I'd vomit, etc. First of all, I put the 2 bottles in the fridge and got them cold. I mixed it with water and kept that in the fridge for about an hour. I drank the 16oz with a straw and was able to drink it without stopping. I then drank 16 oz of plain water as instructed, and about 15 minutes later, I drank the 2nd 16 oz of water. I haven't had a bowel movement yet, but so far I feel fine. I have some electrolyte replacement drinks, as I understand it needs replenishment after using Suprep. I had a colonscopy 10 years ago, and had to drink 2 gallons of stuff, that I flavored with "orange creamsicle' mix. I have never been able to eat another orange creamsicle to this day. Suprep is a VAST improvement over what has been avavilable to us in the past. It's not a pleasant thing, but it's not bad!!! I think the coldness and the straw were the tricks that made it ok! Now if the BM's start, I'll be half way home!

I am finally on Medicare. Believing that now that I am old and because I am doing a cautionary procedure things will be much less. However, I never would have predicted that with my insurance coverage and Medicare a simple tiny box of chemicals that I have to add 'my' water to would cost so much! What is wrong with our pharmaceutical companies and our doctors who prescribe such expensive chemistry.

My doctor gave me a coupon as well with my prescription. I still paid $40 with my insurance! Last time I had this test I was able to get a Fleet kit for about $10 over the counter. There has got to be something less expensive. At these prices it is no wonder people are dying of colon cancer; they cannot afford the test!

I posted earlier in the year when I used the Suprep. I failed to mention that I filled the prescription at a Sam's club, which was the cheapest I could find. Walgreens, Rite Aid and my local pharmacy were close to $100.00. The Dr gave me a $10.00 coupon to use and with my insurance, I paid $45.00 for the Suprep. It IS a high price, but opposed to the 2 gallon prep, I found it to be worth it. I'm sure that the 2 gallon option is offered to everyone or maybe 1 gallon of "golightly" and a bottle of citric magnesium. My Dr always insists that his patients are "thoroughly" cleaned out and a lesser preparation left a "film" on the camera lense. The first colonoscopy I had , 10 years ago, was the 2 gallon deal, and coming out of the anesthetic, my friend told me I asked the Dr if he had ever heard of "Rain-Ex", and why didn't he just spray his camera lense with it, and use a more humane means of preparation. I was told he just laughed and shook his head and walked away. Suprep is a big, big improvement over preps that have been is use for a long time. The cost, to me, was well worth the agony of using an older prep.

I hope you weren't sitting at your PC when the "urge" came!
Seriously to add to this discussion. 6 years ago I had my colonoscopy and I could use "the pill". It was fairly easy. I need another Colonoscopy and learned - (for good or bad) that the pill was found to be HARMFUL and no longer available. So in 4 days I'm taking Suprep. I have AARP Medicare Drug Plan and price was about $75. (no coupons). I'm stocked up on Gatorade and ready to go. (NO pun intended!). Really the bad news was that the doc just changed all early morning procedures til the afternoon. Gonna be a 20 hour process for me!

Age 70 and had my first colonoscopy today. Put it off due to the nasty"prep".I mixed the two bottles with Crystal Light peach tea and used peach tea as the "chaser". Suprep mixed with Crystal Light did not taste that bad. Dr. gave me a professional sample. Humana Medicare Advantage is $45.

The second dose 6 hours after the first really did the trick. I had a little cramping through the night, but not bad.

Over the counter magnesium citrate and bisacodyl laxative are all that's needed to clean your colon prior to a colonoscopy. It has been used as a standard prep for years. The prescription is an unnecessary rip off. So is a colonoscopy in most cases.

I am starting my Suprep regiment tonight... have to say, I'm not looking forward to it. This will be my 3rd colonoscopy (one every 5 years). I appreciate the advice and suggestions provided by other users. My only complaint (as I see others have) is the price. Even with my insurance copay, the cost was $60. Luckily, I can afford it but what about all those out there who need the test but can't afford the price. I certainly wasn't happy about the $60 and don't understand why medical insurance doesn't cover more of it. I guess it makes more sense to spend tens of thousands of dollars on surgery and chemotherapy as a treatment then to cover another 30-40 dollars off of the prevention -- Go figure these insurance companies!!!!! I was a little peeved that my physician didn't give me an option as to what I could take as a prep.

If you have part D medical insurance, it will pay for most of it. I have Humana and it cost me 6.50.

I had a colonoscopy this week. The Suprep at Walgreens cost $167.90. My co-pay was $91.00. The month before, I had another colonoscopy and was prescribed Dulcolax and Magnesium Citrate . Cost less than $10.00 ! Suprep was so nasty tasting, it took me hours to drink.

I paid a pretty penny also back in February. Suprep should be removed from the market. Can't fight the Pharmaceuticals they come out on top almost every singe time getting rich on the poisons they pass off as "helpful" to the human race.
The sorriest day in my life was the day I forced that stuff down.
My heart hurts thinking of the others who won't be able to tolerate it either.
Sorry you had to pay big $$$$ for it and I hope you were one who's body could tolerate it. Have a great New Year.

Re: DCM (# 60) Expand Referenced Message

To make matters worse this prep made me sick and did not work well for me. I lost a complete nights sleep and went through with the colonoscopy. For a full two weeks thereafter I had nothing but gas and nausea. When I saw the doctor I told him all the trouble I had with it and about the $90! He said for some it works great and there are some people it does not agree with and I was not completely clean. I need another colonoscopy next year and will only take the Miralax and cheap Gatorade formula that works great. Crazy to give this high cost crap to seniors.

I had to get this wonderful script three times and Walgreens cost about $92.00 the third time i said to the doctors office and told them even with prescription coverage this 92 dollar thing is not feasible on social security so they gave me it. Now for the medication itself like most the taste is awful and the amount you need to drink are just something one is not use to.

I called the doctors office...told them I’m NOT shelling out $140 for this prep since I’m on social security and have NO RX INSURANCE. They said NO PROBLEM....just go buy 6 tablets of Dulcolaxlaxative” - not the softener (generic is ok) and an 8 oz container of Miralax powder (again, generic is fine)....then she gave me the instructions on how and when. She said they prescribe the Surprep because the regimen & time frame of taking it is simpler than the tablets with the miralax.

What a scam! Not only is the price outrageous it requires that you get up early a.m. to take more. What descent Doctor would prescribe this. Must be real kickback going on here.

Re: Cookie (# 58) Expand Referenced Message

Your damned straight it’s all about the kickbacks my friend. I worked for a physician and know first hand the drug reps / companies “reward” physicians ( various ways) based on number of scripts for their meds they write.

Why do doctors insist on writing prescriptions for products that insurance companies don't cover? Is it all about the kick back?

Just picked up my SUPREP Rx from Rite Aid. They charged $131 for the kit. RIDICULOUS. WALMART quoted me a price of $102. Still RIDICULOUS.

Only coupon I found was for $15. voucher IF YOUR CO-PAY IS $40 OR MORE.

This is the biggest scam yet. For years the prep was some MAG CITRATE you could get for around $5.00 plus some ducolax tabs and maybe Miralax. You KNOW these doctors who call in this "prescribed" kit are getting KICKBACKS from the Mfg. No question in my mind. Drug reps would give my boss pre-typed out RX pads that all he had to do was sign them. Then a couple times a year he'd go on Ski Trips or Florida Trips courtesy the Drug Companies based on # of scripts written. There is NO WAY these two 6 oz bottles should cost this kind of money.........
