Qutting Tramadol With Suboxon

Updated

This is the first message I have ever left in a Tramadol forum so I apologize if it isn't in the right location. I just wanted to tell a little about my story. I have been addicted to Tramadol for the last 4 years. My doctors assured me that it was not addictive and was a great option for my pain. I have had multiple surgeries on my knee and have chronic pain and for a while the Tramadol did help. But it didn't take long before I realized that I also like the way that I felt when I took it. As time went on the dose didn't do it for me so I kept taking more and more. For the last few months I was up to 40 -45 of them a day. It was a constant struggle to keep myself supplied and was costing me a small fortune. Other than my addiction my life is great. I own a successful business, have great kids and an amazing wife, but I just went through life caring about one thing and one thing only. So a few weeks ago I started calling around to see what treatment options I could find. I couldn't leave my company or family for 30 days to go away for treatment and tapering down didn't work for me. I finally came across a place that was offering Suboxone treatment. I was very hesitant and thought of this as more of a "hardcore drug addict's choice" but I went and met with a doctor. I was completely honest about how much I took and how miserable I was. I told him that I couldn't stop because I couldn't stand this miserable withdrawals that came with it. So I decided to give the Suboxone a chance. Before you can start Suboxone you have to put yourself into withdrawals, which sucks terribly. But after about 36 hours of sweats, chills, nausea, diarrhea, insomnia and everything else that goes along with it, I went to see my doc again. I was givin' my first dose of Suboxen and went back to a waiting room to see how I felt in the next 30 min. My doc came and checked on me and gave me a second dose. Unbelievably, I felt better. Not great, but a lot better. I left the doctors office and went home with my script and by the time I got home I was feeling pretty amazing! That was yesterday. This morning I woke up and took my first dose and then ate breakfast which is something I haven't done in years. I went and spent time with my brother and came home and cooked dinner for my family. I am at 70 hours now with no Tramadol and I can't tell you how amazing it is. I would never have been able to do this without the Suboxone and I encourage anyone who is struggling with this horrible addiction to seek help. I wanted to post this because I have looked through thousands of posts over the last few years looking for some "magic advice" and I hope that at least one person can benefit from my experience. There is hope, please don't feel like there isn't.

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience transferring over to Suboxone. It's refreshing to read something positive after seeing all the negative and neutral reviews on the drug, so I think there are many people on this forum who'd benefit immensely from reading your post!

Overtime I believe Suboxone may also require a tapering whenever you decide to stop using it; but from what I hear, it probably wouldn't be nearly as bad as what you may have gone through under long term Tramadol withdrawals. That said, it really sounds like you made the right decision for yourself! I believe there's always a light at the end of every tunnel.

Thank you for you post. I am in the same position as you were. Great wife and kids. Good job, but my dirty little secret. A 15-20 pill a day Tram additction. I am scared to death once Aug 14 comes and I cant order it online anymore. My real hurdle is the shame involved in getting help and getting everything out in the open. Soboxone may be the answer

Hey Wisconsin guy. Good advice man. I was taking tramadol for over ten years and last Tuesday took my last days worth. My daily dosage was 15 when I woke up 15 at lunch and 15 at dinner. I realized finally I was out of control completely and decided I had to stop for my kids and wife. So I did . Cold turkey . Very stupid . I have withdrawn from every opiate but H and tramadol withdrawl is far worse than any. I m on day 6 with zero tramadol after 45 a day. It has been the worst 6 days of my life and I ve been through some s***. I ve had bad knees my whole life then split my tibia an tore off my acl getting off a truck at work. It just justified doing more tramadol. I always had an excuse to take or or order more online. Every doctor I talked to said it was non addictive and a great drug. After great research recently I found out the horrible effect it has on your brain chemicals making withdraws some say that are worse than H. Every day is getting better but please people take his advice and seek help. The first three days are absolute hell. Nighttime is 25 times worse . If you do go cold turkey get a heavy sleep or anxiety aide. You simply have to want to get clean for the right reasons people and don't give up !!! If I can stop after taking 30 plus pills a day for god knows how long then 45 a day for the last year anyone can . Anyone wants to talk just reply and I ll help all I can . Be strong and don't give up . It does get better after four or five days I promise. Sorry of the long post. Good luck and god bless.

Thank you so much for your post. I have made an appointment for next Wednesday with a psychiatrist who prescribes suboxone. my story is like yours in that I have a valid reason for tramadol and a current script. I wish you continued success and hope you will keep us informed of your progress!
