Updated

I would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.

Thanks Sal. My tooth is so loose right now that I can barely eat. I don't actually get it pulled for 2 weeks. Then I have to wait a period of time before I get the implant. Apparently I will be getting a "flipper" until then. Just wondering what others have done while waiting for their implant? At the moment I'm so worried it'll fall out before I even get the root pulled. We have all these Canada Day celebrations coming up and I sure don't want to present myself looking like the wicked witch from the west!
I suppose there's no way Amgen would even consider paying for the whole procedure. Would love to hear how others have dealt with the loss of teeth due to Prolia.

I also have had shots every 6 months times two. I will NEVER take another.

I am again suffering side effects. The muscle and joint pain is beyond belief.
Even my toes are painful.

My plan is an anti inflammatory diet and supplements; also various types of resistance exercises. Problem is for the last 6 weeks my pain and weakness has been so great, I cannot exercise.

Judy~ May I ask how long you have been off of Prolia? I got 2 pulled and implants put in. The crowns will be ready the middle of Sept. I have been off of it for a couple of years now so there are no worries about my immune system, etc. After my 6 months of Prolia were up, I had a cataract removed and also a new hip put in. Why are they making you wait so long?

I just started taking Prolia injections this month. I am experiencing tiredness and muscle weekness. I have fallen twice which is something I never do. I am 56 years old, 5'6" tall and weigh 145 lbs., and healthy other than osteoporosis. Has anyone else had this side effect?

Yes, fatigue and muscle weakness and heaviness. Like my limbs are encased in cement.

This drug has had very negative effects on my muscles and joint; in addition to many other negative side effects.

Judy, there are different types of surgeries to repair a non-repairable rotator cuff tear. The most drastic is to take another tendon and replace the whole tendon that is torn. I don't know from where that other tendon comes, if it is one we are not using much or a donor tendon. In either case. it can be repaired this way. Check into it. Be well -- you are certainly going through a lot. Hugs~Pood

Yes. My dad started losing his balance within the first 2 days after having the shot, fell a couple of days later and it was nothing but disaster after that, from one thing to another. he never recovered. Died 8 months after having the shot. I really think he ended up with endocarditis (infection around the heart, which CAN be caused by prolia) but none of the doctors in our area diagnosed him as they didn't know he had gotten the infusion and they just aren't good at diagnosing things. In our area we could go to 5 different doctors and get 5 different diagnoses. So disappointed. I'll be thinking of you. See my posts from back in Oct 2014 if they are still there. I can't believe this killer drug is still on the market.

Poodle, by the time I have my tooth pulled I will have been off Prolia for a year! I had to visit my dentist today as the tooth is so loose and I don't get to the oral surgeon for about 10 days. My dentist actually glued the 3 front teeth together so I wouldn't have to deal with a gap. I then go back the day before the extraction to have the glue removed. I feel a bit less stressed now.
As to a tendon replacement....sounds interesting. I'll have to check it out and see if there is any doctor in Toronto who does it. I have finally caved in to getting some pain killers from my doctor which I'm very nervous about taking. Causes drowsiness and I'm so tired to begin with from the pain and lack of sleep. Vicious circle.
I have to rationize with what I'm dealing with as my younger sister is dying of cancer which has spread to the liver and is in terrible pain. She is one very courageous and brave woman who I've grown to admire greatly.

I took Prolia in May 2016. I started having all kinds of problems. My RA doctor who gave me the shot couldn't be found. My hands hurt so bad. finally took X-rays. the ligaments were gone. Bone on bone. Now they say it's in my feet. I am still have major problems. The dr. says it's RA but I have had RA for many years. I say it Prolia. Digestive problems you name it I'm having it. No dr. will believe me. I was in good health except the RA, which was under control, until I was given this shot.

Net,
I too am having muscle and joint issues
SEVERE issues. The pain is unbearable.
The joints in my toes are so painful and tender I can't bear to wear shoes. Every doctor blows it off because I have Firbromyalgia. I have had Fibro for 49 years This is NOT Fibro. I am currently searching for doctors out of the area .

Thanks for the info about the tendons.

Be well

Has anyone out there had problems with Prolia attacking your tendons?

Sal~could that be gout in your toes? It is extremely painful and there is a cheap cure for it. A very old med cures it quickly. Please have your Dr. take a second look. Gout is from uric acid buildup and hurts so badly you cannot stand to have even a sheet over your toes. Definitely worth a look! Hugs~Pood

Judy~there are actually 5 tendons involved in a rotator cuff tear. Depending on how much you can lift your arm is what they will do. First, is go go in and clean it out -- called debridement done by tiny little punctures so they can get their tiny little instruments in.. Then, they can stitch up certain tendons and others get totally replaced. It can be fixed but it all depends on how high right now you can lift that arm. The higher you can lift the arm, the less surgery you will require to fix what they are trying to tell you is impossible when that is totally untrue. You may need to go to another Provence or a different facility in the one where you live. Get well now~Pood

Poodle, thanks for the info. The MRI shows that there is a poorly defined longitudinal partial tear of the muscle near the musculotendinous junction. As well a rupture of the supraspinatus tendon ......goes on and on a superolateral numeral head suggestive of a Hill-Sachs lesion. A lot more that I won't bore you with and which I don't understand except that because of where the tear is and the fact that it is frayed and not in a position to be sewn together. The surgeon said that stitches would just not hold and eventually come apart?! I have asked my GP to send me to another surgeon who I've heard is very good with shoulders. In the meantime I'm dealing with my husband who had a seizure (?) a couple of weeks after a hernia operation and because he had a stroke 5 years ago the neurologist is blaming it on that and has revoked his driver's license. She has put him on anti-seizure meds which he has decided not to take due to the side effects. This was also what our own GP agreed to. We are now waiting for a second opinion. We did not at all like the neurologist. The CT scan showed nothing and she did not suggest an EEG!

This so called "seizure" lasted less than a minute with his head slightly shaking and staring. He even said....oh wow that was weird! That was 3 weeks ago. Naturally I'm worried, frustrated as it's painful for me to drive and I'm extremely angry with the lack of compassion this neurologist showed towards us. Therefore I haven't been able to really deal with my own issues. Here in Canada we have a health plan which so far is very good but our population is aging and putting a big stress on the system. It's becoming more and more difficult to quickly get a fast referral unless you know someone. I'm learning very quickly how to use it to my advantage!! Off to now celebrate Canada 150!!! I'll try and forget all our problems and go out and wave the Maple Leaf!!

Thank you again Poodle.

I have an upcoming appointment with a new Internist. I will address that. In addition, I will address the fact that I expect to be taken seriously , and not "Blown off "

Thanks, poodle. I wish you could read my MRI then maybe you would understand what my situation is. I tried copying some of it for you to read but I guess it never got sent. Basically I was told that the tear is in a place that can't be sewn back together....too frayed I was told. The interpretation is and I will quote,
There is a rupture of the supraspinatus tendon and a musculotendinous junction tear so the infraspinatus. A small shallow bony cortical defect is noted in the posterior superolateral numeral head suggestive of a Hill- Sachs lesion.
I'm now hoping to get a second opinion but I was told it would be a long wait! Very discouraging .

Net~it can be a tendon if it is located near the injection site. Generally, Prolia LOVES muscles as that is the only place in our body where there is any calcium as we were not made to store calcium i our human bodies. Are you really, really sure it is a tendon and where is that tendon located? We can have many prior issues that we never knew we had until Prolia comes on the scene. Please give me more information. Thanks and be well~Pood
