Open Minded Dr In Grand Rapids, Mi?
UpdatedLooking for a Dr in Grand Rapids that isn't a closed minded neanderthal. I've been to 2 different docs in the past 4 months. I was quite active growing up and as a result suffered quite a few injuries. Between sports, military, and work life, my 38 year old body feels like its 70. Chronic fatigue, back pain, sharp pains going down legs is a daily torment. The first doc I saw put me on Cymbalta for three months to no effect. He then diagnosed poison ivy as a viral infection (really?) Needless to say I didn't remain with him. And the second he told me after one visit, that fibromyalgia doesn't exist (mother, father, and sister are all diagnosed with it by the way). After initial blood work he informed me that nothing was abnormal and we could discuss further treatments. Knowing my history (or non history) of pain meds, he said that he won't prescribe narcotics (never took them, don't want too), and that Cymbalta needs 4-6 weeks to take effect (was on it for 3 months, didn't work). Is there someone you can recommend that takes Medicaid in the GR area? Don't want to keep changing docs!!! Please help!!! Thank you!

Hello, Captain! How are you? I'm very sorry that you're in pain.
Unfortunately, I have no way of knowing what insurance any given doctor accepts, so I can't really recommend one for you.
But what kind of doctors have you been consulting? I think you'd really do better with a pain management specialist, they do offer many other treatment options aside from narcotics, such as nerve block treatments.
Can anyone suggest a good doctor in that area?
Have you tried any of the anticonvulsants that can help with nerve pain, such as Gabapentin? Typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood swings and weight gain. But they have successfully helped many people.
I'm on medicaid. Priority health to be precise. Haven't been able to contact any PM clinics due to insurance restrictions about referrals. I've only seen GP's so far, and they say I'm not in pain (fibro non believers). Haven't been prescribed anything but Meloxicam and Cymbalta both to no effect. Latest doc told me all I wanted was pain meds, yet blood work from 3 days ago showed absolutely no trace of ANYTHING. He said nothing was wrong with me and he couldn't help.
