@pj and jj,

In regards to finding a local pain doctor, I have listed below a couple websites specific to locating pain management doctors in a given area. All you have to do is input your city or zip code for narrowed results:
{link removed because site no longer exists}

You can give this other page a try too if you come up with different results for some reason or another:
wellness.com/find/pain%20management%20specialist

Many of the results you find (in one or both of the links above) also list a phone number for that specific doctor; I'd consider calling up a number of them to see if they are accepting new patients; some aren't, but most usually are.

Unfortunately, no one can know ahead of time what a doctor is or is not willing to prescribe, as that is based on the doctor's discretion. Some advice I can give you is to not specifically ask for any 'specific medication' when you see a new doctor. Make sure to transfer or take a copy of all your medical records with you. Then, the best approach is to discuss up front and honestly what has and hasn't worked for you in the past. Most doctors will take it under consideration if they know it's worked for you without causing any problems or severe side effects.

I hope this information helps!

There is a methadone clinic in Jackson, MS. Near UMC hospital. I've been going there for 4+ years. Alternative for Life. Our highest phase allows you 2 weeks take home doses. Memphis phases go as high as a month.

For anyone looking for a physician who prescribes methadone so your health insurance will cover the cost, altapointe.org in alabama (mobile) will bill your insurance. I've been paying GCTC 91 dollars a week for 2 years and just found out I could have saved $7,000 had I called around. I'm about to transfer to altapointe (I'm phase 4 at GCTC), and I'll post my results soon.

I should've stated that no it's not impossible that someone could find a doctor outside of a pain clinic that will prescribe methadone for pain, it's just not likely. I'm in the medical field and today it's *almost* impossible to find a physician that will Rx methadone for pn to one of his pts. Lortab/hydrocodone...that's a different story. Doctors do still commonly Rx that, however they have really cracked down on that also, as they've cracked down on pain killers as a whole. There's a huge difference in what was Rx'd 12-15 yrs ago and how doctors felt about opiates in general as compared to how it is now.
My best to you all-

You definitely made enough reasons for you to just have to have them. With all that's wrong with you no MD would have ever stopped treating you with traditional opiates. Methadone is for addicts. So ask yourself, are you an
addict? Or are you really in pain and you were told by family members that you were truly addicted when you couldn't hides it any more. Dr dropped you because you were getting the best pain medication for all you describe but you ran out before the month was out. God please help thaws that you love and free them

Methadone isn't "just for addicts". What a ridiculous thing to say. Methadone has been around since at least WWII and is a highly effective and long lasting opioid pain medication unlike the typical 4 (maybe more if you're lucky) hours of pain relief that is associated with "normal" pain meds, methadone can provide relief for 8-10 hours. I go to a clinic in the Memphis area at the recommendation of my orthopedic surgeon who operated on my spinr. Because of all the new regulations and restrictions placed on the medical community, doctors are afraid to write prescriptions for large amounts of narcotic pain medicine for long periods of time (which is a necessity for those of us with severe chronic pain). That fear of the DEA and the lack of actual pain doctors/clinics who offer a whole approach to pain management (shots, blocks, physical therapy, and yes medication) leaves people who suffer from chronic pain with very few to no other options.

Your assertion that simply because someone is taking methadone and/or going to a clinic means they are an addict is truly asinine and idiotic and is the reason there is so much discrimination against pain patients. While yes, the clinics that do methadone management are primarily for those with addiction issues to assume that anyone and everyone who makes use of such a clinic is an addict is ignorant. I've seen people in wheelchairs and walkers come into the clinic because they have nowhere else to turn because of the stupidity of the "war on drugs" leaving most traditional routes unavailable.

Educate yourself about the subject before you speak of something you obviously know nothing about.

Your comments are ridiculous...Methadone is one of the best pain medications on earth..I know because I take 130 mgs for the last 13 years & it saved my marriage & my life...Obviously you know nothing about it...Very very few doctors,just with one visit, are gonna write you a script for methadone....Go to a clinic in Memphis (BHG) or in another state if need be....Theres one in Jackson,Ms...thats it....The State of Mississippi needs to get off their asses & join the rest of the "world" & recognize the fact that methadone is a "good" thing...Lawmakers are so damn naive with their "bible-belt" attitude..............Get with it Mississippi...

Hi...I know you posted this question awhile back but I thought I'd still reply. Only clinics and pain clinics will Rx methadone, and it's now rare that a pain clinic will. Would u happen to be close to Tupelo? There's a reason I ask bc *IF* you are possibly willing to go to a clinic, & u can swing the drive for awhile (it will get less over time & eventually be twice per month) there is one in Hamilton, AL, which is about 50mins from there. Otherwise I wish I could give more help. I can give you more first-hand info about that clinic if you need it. (Marion County Treatment Ctr) Good luck!

Is this dr Patel still prescribing methadone . I just moved to ms 3mths ago. My primary Dr prescribed it to me for 8years for chronic pain. I left all my records back home. 12 hours away. I resorted to going to a clinic while here cus its so hard to find a dr that will prescribe them and takes forever to get in, but id prefer a Dr, did these clinics are crazy and I've been on them for pain. Are his visits really expensive and is there a chance he would prescribe them, if anything something for my pain that last more than 3-4 hrs for pain if I explain my circumstance and condition. I have djdd disorder, neck pain, severe migrains , carpertunall , curved tail bone, severe pain in my lower back and pains and numbness that go down my hips and legs. something wrong with l4ans l5 I believe Dr told me. lumbar something . don't no exactly what he called that . in have like cold spots lately, where my lower back, hands legs and a few times my face would go cold and numb and feels like stinging , pins and needles in back and legs. also t of numbness lately. sorry for long story but I have children and want to go back to school, but need something for my pain and methadone has always worked well for me. Any help is appreciated. thank you

If you can get to one of the BHG clinics in Memphis, they are very easy to get in to. I showed up on a Friday at 5 A.M. and was dosed and out of there by 9:30 A.M. They only see two new patients per day, so either make an appointment or get there at 4:10 and wait to get a number from the security gaurd.

You will need a legal ID(state issued) and a social security card or a print out showing you applied for a social security card, $158.00 and be honest on how much you use. The amount you use determines how much of a dose you will end up getting. You will only start at about 25mg for the first day.

The clinic I did in Florida made me wait 3 days before I could start dosing. This place is great and very friendly staff. I think they have 5 or 6 clinics around but you can start at one close to you and they will send you to the place that the doctor is at on your first day. He moves around to each clinic throughout the week but tou'll only have to go to the other clinic the first day.

Good luck!
