Lyrica Lawsuit (Top voted first)

Updated

Does anyone know if there is an ongoing lawsuit against the company who puts out Lyrica? I am a mess from it. Do we have a leg to stand on when it comes to the side effects they found out from people like us? I am a long termer. I have been taking 900 mg since 2005. Is there anyone representing us? Thank you

I am looking for an Attorney in Michigan that will take on the company that put out Lyrica. I stopped taking it way over a year ago and I still have side effects.. I attempted suicide without hesitation and that is not something I would've done. My Shrink says that he prevented another patient from attempting suicide after being put on Lyrica. Are they actually any lawsuits going on now or what. If anyone has info please let me know. Thanks. I wouldn't recommend anyone take that med after what I have gone through and what I have read from others.

Someone told me today that Lyrica is very dangerous...so I googled it only to learn my terrible side effects are NOT in my head. This is terrifying me and want to hear from others. Thanks.

Hi Vicky. Right now it looks like the primary lawsuits concerning Lyrica are centered around suicidal thoughts and behaviors. Very sorry to hear about your condition from this drug. I've heard of many individuals experiencing some dramatic side effects from long term use. That's just a shame. I definitely would not give up yet, because what you are saying is now coming to the forefront, so it's just the beginning. What has your doctor's response been to your deteriorating condition over time? Have they even tried to get you on a different solution?

I've been on Lyrica for just over a year. I consider it to be deadly poison. After a very long period of tapering to an incredibly low dose, I am still experiencing the scariest side effects. Within 48 hours of quitting, I experienced what appeared to be a seizure, although I've never had a seizure disorder. Immediately went back on the tiny dose I've been taking, and then started experiencing excruciating headaches during times of stress and during sex. If anyone has any advice, I'd very much appreciate hearing it. I'm afraid this drug is damaging my brain, and I feel like I'm in a pharmaceutical prison, scared to death of having rebound seizures when I stop taking it, but fearing the headaches even more. I feel like this drug is rewiring my brain!

LC (# 1474) --

I know EXACTLY how you feel. Lyrica changed my life forever and NOT for the good. I was in a coma; I lost my memory; I couldn't focus, cook, read, do anything! It took about 2-1/2 years for the "fog" to clear and I'm still not "me." I went to one attorney here in Florida who told me I missed the statute of limitations. How the heck was I supposed to file suit when I wasn't even capable of reading the newspaper? The manufacturer of Lyrica SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE! I'm not interested in a million dollars (well, that would be nice) but they should pay something for what I went through and am still going through. And no one will help me.

I took Lyrica for one week and got so sick I could not get out of bed. That's a dangerous thing when you are a single mom of an autistic child. I HATE LYRICA.

My daughter experienced serious injury while taking Lyrica. Looking for an attorney in California, having a difficult time finding one would take on the drug company.

Thanks Janna, I haven't heard of that one. I am curious, have you had any lasting effects from Lyrica, like stuttering, uncontrolled jerking or anything like that? I took it off an on for about a year before I realized it was the Lyrica that was destroying me. Glad you are feeling better.

Vickie: I can help you show a direct correlation between using LYRICA and losing your teeth. I was misdiagnosed and placed on Lyrica for only seven months. Prior to starting Lyrica, I have dental records proving my teeth were in perfect condition. After only seven months, I had to have nine root canals, one implant and total restoration. The only thing I did prior to my teeth problem was start Lyrica.

Here is more information on Pfizer. If they can spend 6 million dollars to promote lyrica... then they can spend the money to fix the health problems it has caused...

Lyrica, Cymbalta Fibromyalgia Promotions Questioned
Feb 9, 2009 | Parker Waichman Alonso LLP Two drug makers are spending a fortune to promote medications for a disease that some doctors say may not even exist. According to the Associated Press, Eli Lilly and Pfizer have donated more than $6 million to nonprofit groups to spread information about fibromyalgia in an effort to boost sales of Cymbalta and Lyrica.

Fibromyalgia, defined as a chronic, widespread pain condition of unknown origin, is a controversial diagnosis. No biological tests exist to diagnose fibromyalgia, and the condition cannot be linked to any environmental or biological causes. While the Associated Press said that doctors agree that suffers' symptoms are real, they don't agree that a disorder called fibromyalgia is behind them. But real or not, there is obviously a huge market for fibromyalgia treatments.

Pfizer's Lyrica was the first prescription medication approved to treat fibromyalgia, though no one can explain exactly how it works. Lyrica was first approved to treat epilepsy. In 2004, the drug was reviewed by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) as a remedy for diabetic nerve pain. According a New York Times report published last January, the reviewers recommended against approving the drug, citing its side effects. Lyrica causes weight gain and edema, or swelling, as well as dizziness and sleepiness.

But the FDA ignored the advice of Lyrica reviewers, and approved it anyway. Then Pfizer asked the FDA to expand the approved uses of Lyrica to include the treatment of fibromyalgia, and the agency did so in June 2007. According o the Times report, in clinical trials, patients taking Lyrica reported that their pain fell on average about 2 points on a 10-point scale, compared with 1 point for patients taking a placebo. About 30 percent of patients said their pain fell by at least half, compared with 15 percent taking placebos.

Pfizer’s success has encouraged other drug makers to seek approval for their own fibromyalgia drugs. Eli Lilly's antidepressant Cymbalta received such approval last June.

According to the Associated Press, both drug makers are spending big bucks to promote not only their drugs, but fibromyalgia as well. According to the report, key components of their marketing onslaught include more than $6 million in grants to nonprofit groups to pay for fibromyalgia medical conferences and educational campaigns. And that was only in the first three quarters of 2008, the Associated Press said. It's also more than the drug makers gave towards Alzheimer's Disease and diabetes, which are universally recognized as real diseases.

One doctor interviewed by the Associated Press called Eli Lilly's and Pfizer's fibromyalgia promotion efforts disease mongering. That doctor, Frederick Wolfe, was lead author of the guidelines defining fibromyalgia in 1990, but now doubts the very existence of the disease.

Despite such concerns over the tactics used by Eli Lilly and Pfizer, they do seem to be working. According to the Associated Press, between the first quarter of 2007 and the fourth quarter of 2008, sales rose from $395 million to $702 million for Lyrica, and $442 million to $721 million for Cymbalta.

*** i hope this information is helpful. it is a lot to post, but if i try to post the web link to the story it is delayed for some time. If posting the whole story is bothersome please let me know. i just hope by sharing this information people will see what this drug is really all about and get off of it before it is too late.

one voice alone will not be heard... but many together will make them listen.

I have not posted in almost a year. I answer yes to your question. I took Lyrica for Fibromyalgia pain. I have always been a high energy person until
Fibro took me. BUT, I never, never had an anxiety problem until after Lyrica. I also have hugh memory problems. Everything from "lost" words while talking, lost names of people, places and things, and holes in my mid and long term memories. Just gone. I have eyesight loss, tooth loss, strength loss and a sleep disorder. I was a high level Administrative Secretary for a Fortune Five Hundred construction company handling a Vice President of the company and five construction managers. I could remember hundreds of phone numbers for sub contractors and the names of all the contacts. I could go on and on, but I will not. Good luck with you son and whatever happens.
God Bless.

Hi. My mother just recently committed suicide after 4 attempts, all the while she was on lyrica. She had so many health problems, and the one medication she was on the whole time was lyrica. She finally succeeded with her 4th attempt at suicide. Not until after this occurred am I now seeing the commercial saying that lyrica can cause suicidal thoughts or actions. Does anyone know if there is an ongoing lawsuit against Lyrica? I don't care about the money, but this needs to be stopped and taken off the market. If anyone has any links or advice for me, any thing would be appreciated. Thanks, Moe.
