I took 5 mg for one week. Day 5, 6, and 7 my depression and anxiety increased. On day 8 I took 10 mg as directed by my Dr. Oh my... The anxiety was awful. An empty void in my soul - all day. Like I was drowning. And I had shaky hands. Next day I am 90% better. Feel great - started on wellbutrin (generic) for my mild to moderate depression. I am 45 and don't have a history of taking anti depressants. Last few years I had mild depression- and mild anxiety thru most of my life. ## Hello, Jon! How are you? I'm very sorry about the experience you had. However, according to the information provided by the FDA, that can happen, when you first start a medication, such as Lexapro. It can take about 3 weeks, or so, for those side effects to settle down and to know if it is going to work f...

Hi. I just got back on Lexapro after being off for 6 months because my anxiety returned after being on for 2.5 years. I was on 5mg for a week with side effects that started to feel manageable on day 7. On day 8 I upped dosage to 10mg and it seems as though it's all started over again with the side effects. I thought I had prepared my system with 5mg,but here I am lethargic again and drowsy. The mornings are the worst, afternoons its like I wake up from the nasty fog and at night I'm fine. Please some help me out in this..I'm on day 3 of 10mg and it's like I started over... ## Hello, Brownstone88! How are you? Yes, that is completely normal and you'll usually experience side effects anytime you raise the dosage of a medication. They should taper off and eventually go ...

My daughter was prescribed Risperidol for mood disorder. She is 30 years old and already taking Lexapro. I have heard that this drug has some adverse side effects, and I would like to know what they are. ## This drug is dangerous especially if given to a misdiagnosed patient by an eager doctor looking to fill a pharmaseutical quota and a quick fix inconsiderate of individuals responses to known side effects. RISPERDAL® (risperidone) is used for the treatment of irritability associated with autistic disorder in children ages 5-17; the treatment of schizophrenia in adults; and the treatment of bipolar mania associated with Bipolar I Disorder in adults. IS THIS YOUR DAUGHTER? There are many side effects but this one scares me the most: TARDIVE DYSKINESIA (Tics). The side effect of tic...

I am on 10 mg of lexapro which I take when I wake up. I got a head cold and took 2 nyquil at 11:30pm. I didn't even think about the meds till after. I'm a little nervous because I looked it up after the fact. It's been about 20 mins I hope I'll be ok. ## @ro pal, I'm really glad you took some time to post this because there actually is a drug interaction listed between Lexapro and Nyquil. The University of Maryland Medical Center states that using the two together may increase blood levels of dextromethorphan (one of the main active ingredients in Nyquil) potentially increasing your risk of serious adverse effects. On the bright side it sounds to me like you probably had enough time in between doses to not be too concerned about this interaction, but Umm.edu goes on ...

Hello All, I was taking Lexapro for 3 days and on the third day, I was experiencing problems simular to a panic attack. I have not taken the medicine in 3-4 weeks but I am still having panic attack when I take vitamins. My family doctor has said that Lexapro is out of my system after a few days. Did I just rewire my brain to panic attack after feeling different from vitamins and other OTC meds? ## Hello, MonkeyBoy123! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem that you're having. No, it is very doubtful that just 3 days of Lexapro would have any type of permanent effect. According to the FDA, its normal side effects may include nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and weight changes. It is classified as an SSRI antidepressant. It is possible that you're just suffering from anxiet...

My doctor moved. I need a doctor in Winsboro Texas who will prescribe my current meds. ## Hello, Yvonne! How are you? What type of doctor are you looking for? What medications do you take? This information will better enable people to make suggestions for you. ## I take medicines for anxiety chronic pain panic attacks and depression. Lexapro Xanax lamictol pramipexole and norco. ## Thank you for posting back, Yvonne! And yes, that does change things. Due to the new regulations that were put in place last year, if you require controlled substances on a long-term ongoing basis, such as the Norco and Xanax, you'll need to see specialists now, to have them prescribed. A general practice physician won't be able to prescribe them for you. This was done try to curb over prescribing and...

Help! I have been free of lexapro for over a year. Benzodiazepine Cree for 9 months after a very slow taper. I still suffer from anxiety like I never had before, insomnia, chronic pain, irritability and brain fog. Please warn folks not to take these drugs. I want to die almost every day. I am unable to do much. I have been working very hard on this recovery. Thanks. M W. ## Hello, Madeline! How are you doing? I'm very sorry about the problems that you're having. However, neither of those medications is a cure, so it's highly possible that you still suffer from anxiety and it may have gotten worse with time. While withdrawal can cause some rebound effects, it wouldn't last for 9 months, especially after having done a very slow taper. Have you tried anything else to treat ...

I suffer from anxiety and depression. It wasn't until I found myself sitting at a traffic light and wincing from the overwhelming feeling of sadness. I was well aware that I came from a high anxiety family and was certain I inherited that from my mother. What I didn't realize was how depression had slowly creeped into my life. I had no reason to feel depressed. I have a good job and wonderful family. No real money problems just the usual bills yet I had an overwelming feeling of sadness. I schedule a physical and went to see my doctor. During the physical he asked if I had anything to complain about medical or otherwise. So I told about the feeling at the traffic light and all the rest. He offered me lexapro after questioning me about a family history. He explained the there is ...

Need some reassurance, please! I am a 27 year old guy and have quit Lexapro after only having been on it for 3 weeks or so. After my first ever panic attack experiences, I was given 10mg of Lexapro by my doctor. He also have me 0.5 of Klonopin (as needed) and a very low dose of a blood pressure med. I am off the BP med. Lexapro made me scared and made me feel just "not right". I always felt medicated. I came down to 0.5 Lexapro for a few days and then down to 0.25 for a few days after that. The doctor ended up saying "you can just stop taking it". Here we are now. This is my 5th day with no Lexapro and I feel pretty crappy. Woozy sometimes, head in the clouds, shallow breathing, and rapid heart rate. All of this is come and go, but I rarely feel good. Started a new job a...

Hi People, I see that there is a lot of confusion and anxiety out there about Lexapro (and SSRI's in general). So many questions. So many hopes and fears. I decided to share my experience so that maybe I can help someone searching for answers. Firstly, Lexapro effects will generally depend on why you are taking them. For me, I was diagnosed with Panic Disorder back in my early 20's. I'm 43 now. So I have lived with this for a looooong time. I never took an antidepressant for more than a month until I hit age 35. This is because I was an alcoholic in denial. A binge drinker. And you really can't mix antidepressants and booze. If you have a drinking problem then you need to address that before you can ever battle anxiety properly. I know how difficult it is to quit drinkin...

Today will be my 3rd day on Lexypro. My anxiety is down but I feel like i want to lay on the sofa all day and don't want to make a decision and just don't care. My stomach feels hungry and empty a lot. Feel lazy and unmotivated and disconnected. ## Hello, Leno123! How are you? Lexapro contains the active ingredient Escitalopram, which is an SSRI antidepressant that can also help with anxiety. Those are all fairly typical side effects for when you just start such a medication, you may also experience dizziness, headache. dry mouth and weight changes. They should improve after about a month, once your body adjusts to the medication. If they don't, then you should speak to your doctor as it might not be the right medication for you take. Is there anything else I can help with?

The pill is small white and round with the number 20 on one side and a split down the middle of the other side. When split in half with difficulty the pill seemed to have a wrapper-like material around it. ## Hello, Johnnie! How are you? That's most likely an enteric coating to protect the stomach or a time release coating. So far, I've not found anything that matches this description, but that does give more ideas of where to look, so I'll keep looking and post back, when I have information for you. Does anyone else recognize this tablet? ## Maybe 20mg lexapro best depression pill out...

Discontinuing lexapro. 10 year old is having violent episodes. He has been taking for four months. Violent episodes started when began lexapro. Recently weaned from abilify. ## Hello, Diane! How is he doing? It would be best to consult the prescribing doctor for the best way to wean off of it and what to replace it with, if he still needs a medication. There can be some withdrawal and rebound symptoms that could make things worse, if he is tapered too rapidly and, at is age, it is best to let his doctor handle the situation for his health and safety. Rebound effects may include nausea, diarrhea, headache, irritability and insomnia. What dosage is he on and what condition is being treated?

My daughter is 13 yrs old. She was diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome last year. She started having panic attacks around the beginning of September. We didn't know that's what she was having. Three weeks ago the doctor told us that's what it was. They put her on 10 mg of Lexapro. She hasn't had any more panic attacks. But she started having a severe headache seven weeks ago that hasn't let up for a second & then she started having severe pain in her stomach. We brought her to the doctor yesterday & they put her on 10 mg of amitriptyline. So now she's taking both Lexapro & amitriptyline. She's only thirteen. I hate her being on all this medicine & I've read all the side effects but I don't know what else to do. I just want th...

Hi all, I was wondering about the side effects from the generic Lexapro: Escitalopram 10 mg/daily. I used to take clonazepam for a few years and then switched to escitalopram, which I took for about six months when I dropped in cold turkey last year. Now, I am back on it, and the side effects are awful. I don't remember them being this bad. The dizziness, nausea, inability to concentrate and drowsiness is beyond belief. Is anyone else having the same problems? Do the dizziness and drowsiness ever go away? I have a very upbeat job and can't afford to not have energy during my 10-12 hour shifts. Also, I keep falling asleep during the day and I never take naps! I was put back on for my anxiety, not depression, and now I feel numb. Can someone relate to anything I'm saying? ## Y...

Hello all, have been taking aropax (paroxetine) since 17y0. I am now 32 and a nurse. 5yo approx the govt stopped funding the aropax brand tried generic did not work. Paid a fortune for the apropax brand.Due to this have switched to escitalopram 10mg now for 11 days. I feel so nauseated and have a constant headache. Will this go away ## Hello, Sarah! How are you? You are most likely dealing with some withdrawal from stopping one, as well as side effects from starting the new medication. You may also experience dizziness and dry mouth. It should improve, after a few weeks, once your body gets used to the medication. Is there anything else I can help with?

I was switched from lexapro to escitalopram when my insurance stopped paying for the brand name...within the month I was suicidal, halucinating and very very depressed, something has to be done about the terrible effects escitalopram causes, my MD tried many other types of antidepressents but only lexapro worked on me, the insurance and the pharmacist do not give a crap just pay up and get out of their face. Yet, viagra is fully covered, what kind of idiocy is that???? ## Hello, Cindy! How are you doing? I am very sorry about what happened to you. However, the coverage is decided by your insurance company, not the pharmacist, your doctor or anyone else. Nor is it the same for all insurance companies. What type of doctor have you been seeing? You may do better with a psychiatrist that kn...

I have been on Lexapro for about 7 years. I feel like it has just been masking my anxiety/depression. I want to try to come off of it, I want to try and be healthy on my own. Does anyone have long use effects? I feel tired all the time. I have ZERO libido. I eat all the time, almost feel like anxiety is still there. I'm lazy, just don't want to do anything. Has anyone tapered off? How was the experience? What do you do now for anxiety? Thank you so much. ## What does your Dr say about coming off? Do they agree you should? ## Hi Lariana, How are you? I actually don't have any personal experience with this medication, but from reading your description I get the sense that you may need to talk with your doctor about developing some sort of tapering schedule to help you graduall...

I have a history of anxiety/depression. After 2 life changing events I fell back into this funk. Was put on Luvox and it worked fine. Then had another loss with a company rightsizing and was laid off and have since moved back into home with parents (I am 40). Without insurance started going to local psychiatrist who decided I was Bipolar. To make long story short..........wrong diagnosis. After a month and a half on Latuda which has sent me spiraling down even further into depression and hopelessness, my parents got involved and with blessing of my psychologist (who also didn't think I was Bipolar) we weaned me off of Latuda and onto 10 mg Lexapro after much research. I've been on for 2 weeks and have suffered the nausea, dizziness and loss of weight and right now after 2 1/2 mo...
