I have had anxiety since I was 9, panick attacks since roughly about 13 and depression has just come on the past few months. I have been on aropax since I was 18 I'm now 24. Over the past month my doctor has been weaning me off it. I was on 60mg (3 tablets) so I cut down to two tablets for a week, then 1 tablet for a week then half a tablet for a week then no tablets for a week. The weeks I only took 2 and 1 I actually felt great the only side effect would be slight nausea that would last a couple of hours but nothing major at all. The week of have half and none have been the worst ever! I read many stories of how hard it can be. Although I don't think my experience was as bad as others. Severe nausea which lasted all day and feeling dizzy I would never vomit though. I start lex...

I've been taking Lexapro and Zanax for nearly ten years for extreme anxiety and depression. In march I was taken off Xanax as my local gp couldn't prescribe it anymore. Since then I don't feel lexapro is working. I can't sleep longer than 2 or 3 hours and don't leave the house. What should I do? ## Do not go off your Lexapro. Sometimes you may think something is not working until you go off of it. Then you find out the hard way (as I have) that it was doing more than you thought it was. If you are not abusing Xanax and your doctor stopped prescribing it out of personal bias, just find another doctor who will prescribe it, as long as you don't abuse it.

can they be taken together and if not why would the give them without knowing the effect ## Hi Dawn! Did u get your medication from the same Doctor? If so, then he/she wouldn't give u anything that couldn't be taken together. Your Doctor knows all the medication u are on. Besides, the pharmacy watches out for those things, too. ## Hello, Dawn! How are you? Most doctors don't actually know the potential interactions, they are taught what medications are for, but not much beyond that. Normally, that is something your pharmacist would handle. And yes, there is actually a risk of developing Serotonin Syndrome from combining these, since they all have an effect on its levels in the body and that can be cumulative from all of them. I'd suggest having a serious discussion with ...

Been on lex for 7 weeks and suddenly my anxiety became worse. I'm now upped to 20mg for the last 4 days. Is this normal or should I be feeling better by now? I did have a week before it got bad again where I was feeling pretty good. Any input would be appreciated! ## Hello, Lizzy! How are you feeling? It will still take about 3 weeks on the higher dosage, before you see an improvement and know if it's working. If it doesn't, or if the symptoms get worse, you may need to try a different medication. Normal side effects to this drug include nausea, dizziness, weight changes and dry mouth. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you for your reply It's now been a few weeks later and I have increases to 30mg. I'm better but still feel the anxiety. I've only b...

My Dr. had me on lexapro and trazodone for my mood disorder and anxiety/ panic attacks. They didn't help with my panic attacks at all. So the next time I saw him he prescribed me vistaril and buspar. I was having severe panic attacks at least 3 times a day...Anytime I have to go into public my symptoms start. I haven't seen a big difference yet, even though I take the vistaril 3 times a day and the buspar twice a day and once a day for the lexapro and trazodone...does anyone have experience with all 4 of these meds? If so how long before I start experiencing some noticed improvement with my panic attacks? ## I would not recommend taking Trazodone (or Nefazodone, it's cousin) if you have panic or anxiety. I've take both in the past and experience intermittent worsening of...

Has anyone been given lexapro for a child under 12 years of age. The FDA has approved this drug for adults and children over 12 years of age. I would like some additional information from anyone who has had a child under the age of 12 use it. ## I've taken Lexapro since I was 4 years old. I've also known several people who have taken this medication and similiar antidepressants well under the age of 12. It depends on the patient's situation and what your doctor suggests is best. Most children under the age of 12 start off with a lower dosage. From ages 4-10 I took 10mg, but I was perscribed to 20mg. ## And even when it isn't approved in a certain age group, doctors are allowed to prescribe it according to their experience, but the dosage usually needs to be carefully adj...

I started 6weeks ago, for anxiety and depression. Just 5 mg knocked me flat, but after a week i was on 10 mg and able to get out of bed. After another week things had improved all round, and by three weeks i was feeling good, actually happy. I had agreed to stay on this drug for a year or so, but got really pissed off that it prevented me from ever having orgasms, so decided to quit without asking my dr....too embarrassing to explain. Am phasing it out very slowly now because of scary stories, had a couple of bad headaches and brain zaps, but so far better than getting onto it! Will drop from 5 mg to 2.5 for a week next. It sure helped me, but this is all too much drama, next time i will pop a couple of valium rather! ## Don't go off of it my friend without Dr. advice. I was on 10mg...

Hi. I have been on lexapro for about 3 weeks, starting out on 5mg to lessen any side effects. But I noticed after about the first couple of doses I was feeling back to my normal self and loving it. I had no side effects at all after a week so started taking the full 10mg. Still no side effects. I feel amazing, totally back to my happy and positive self. I am actually sleeping really well which for me is unheard of (so if that's a side effect I hope it stays) but maybe it's just because my mind is not racing with a million silly thoughts. Just wanted to say that lexapro is doing exactly what it should for me and I hope of people do have side effects that they stick it out because it will be worth it:) ## Hello, Shannon! How are you? I am very glad that it's working so well fo...

I lost my brother last year and we were less than eleven months apart and have always been extremely close. Then exactly to the date a year later my mom died and then ten days later my mother-in-law passed on Thanksgiving. It has been so overwhelming to me. I cannot sleep and I know I have all of the symptoms of depression and my doctor wants me to take Lexapro but reading all of your comments has me terrified. The side effects sound awful. Has anyone had ANY success with it at all? Frankly, I cannot take on more mental and physical issues at this time. ## Hello, Elaine! How are you? Something that you have to remember, when you're reading such posts online is that those are actually from a very small percentage of people who specifically went looking for a website like this due to ...

I have started Lexapro about a week ago. I was naseous the first couple days but have noticed I am extremely tired everyday. I take the pill at night and currently only a half pill and will start taking a full pill next week. Will the tiredness eventually go away? I can't function like this everyday. ## Hello, Nugget! How are you? Yes, it should taper off, after about 4 to weeks, once your body adjusts to the medication, but it will most likely recur for awhile any time you raise the dosage. You may also experience headache and dry mouth. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Hello, I am a 35 year old (who is in perimenopause) female who has suffered from OCD for most of her life. I used to take Prozac as a young adult, then switched to Dumyrox 300mg, and now after realizing th...

I have been taking Lexapro 10 mg for a year. It controls my anxiety wonderfully. I started having itching (small bumps on my lower legs) which the dermatologist says are normal. I've also begun to have itching on my arms, my buttocks, my upper legs - pretty much all over. Has anyone ever heard of Lexapro causing these symptoms? ## Hello, Kathleen! How are you? Yes, it can cause itching as a side effect in some people that take it. After being on it for such a long time, if it hasn't gone away, you most likely need to speak to your doctor about trying a different medication. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have been on lexpro (generic) since 2011 and due to insurance switching suddenly was off of 30mg all at once and made it through.... 2 weeks ago I was started again at 30mg all at once. I am realizing that over the last few days for sure I am not myself. I have been struggling leaving the house, etc. Has anyone had this experience of starting at such a high dose all at once and know how long it may last? ## It will most likely last a week or so, you should start to notice gradual improvement, rather than a sudden change. How are things going, now? Have they gotten any better? The usual side effects can include nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, headache and weight changes. ## IMO its a bad idea to jump from zero to 30 mg on Lexapro. This is a potent drug. Starting at 5mg and increasing the...

I am a 52 year old female that has been on these type of meds for 25+ years. I feel eventually, they become less effective and after my Dr added Buspar to the mix- to relieve anxiety I was feeling while just on Lexapro, I decided to stop all medications like this and see how I do/am. Buspar made me flat/blah, not good. I now have been dealing with sadness and fear that I can't explain. Wondering if it's partially hormones or actually 'me' with out drugs. I go to the Dr again today and I'm sure she will suggest another medication. I don't mind suffering through if eventually I can adjust my life/stress level, etc. to be w/out these type of medications. Anyone have any thoughts/comments/suggestions? I'd appreciate it. ## You need to switch to a different medici...

I got off Vybrid long ago, mainly because of the dizzy-zooming effect. I know lots of people posted the same problem. I'm starting that again recently on Lexapro. Does anyone have the same symptoms ? ## Hello, Jeff! How are you? I'm sorry that you're having a problem. However, those aren't actual medical terms, so I am not sure what you're talking about. Could you please post back and try to clarify? Be more descriptive of the issue? Thanks!

My car got broken into last night and they took my whole purse that had my 10mg of Lexapro which I just started 4 days ago inside. I had called the police and they have me a case number to give to the doctors so that I can hopefully get a refill. It is anxiety meds and I was highly advised by my doc to not skip any days or else I will have bad withdraws and side effects. I left many messages but today is Saturday and the next business day is Monday. Is my only option waiting until then or is there a way I can get my pills back sooner? ## Hello, Sara! How are you? Very sorry about what happened. Were there any refills on it? If so, they'd be on file at your pharmacy and you should be able to pick up a new bottle there, once you inform them of what happened. It isn't a controlled ...

3yrs down on Lex after severe depressive, anxiety episode--life changing. Took long time (3mos) to adapt to drug (brain zaps, sleepyness, fog) with initisl 20mg. 10mg per day is my dosage now. Call it my happy pill...given me new lease on life, sleep, etc. If just starting out, keep faith, side affects subcide and body adapts. Never thought depression when happen to me...wrong ## Awesome! I am very glad that it has worked so well for you. And yes, that is correct, side effects will normally subside after 4 to 6 weeks, when your body gets used to the medication. I'd also like to add that if one medication doesn't work for you, there are others that you can try. Are there any questions or comments?

I'd been having panic attacks for the past 2 months. Of course not doing anything about them they gradually got worse. I made 5 appointments and couldn't leave the house to get to them. Today my husband went with me :) I started on lexapro 10 mg. Can't wait for it to kick in and work!! ## Hello, Teagal! How are you doing? It's great that you finally made it to the doctor to get help! :-) Way to go!!! As to the Lexapro, you should be warned that these types of medications can sometimes make things a bit worse, before they start to get better, so for the first couple of weeks you need to be careful and try to take it easy. If things get too bad, make sure to contact your doctor immediately. Learn more Lexapro details here. Other side effects to Lexapro may include nausea, ...

Hi everyone. I've just been switched from celexa (after 12 years) to lexapro. I was having similar to withdrawal effects with the celexa like it was not working right. Dr started me on 20. Have been on 20 mg of lexapro for just 6 weeks. I feel a little better in some ways like no brain zaps or extreme anxiety for hours, but I'm extremely emotional. Its almost like I was numbed out on celexa and now everything is coming to the surface. I've had to take xanax a few times to get through the anxiety when my other techniques were not working. This is very frustrating. Its shredding my job and I'm also in graduate school. Sooooooo...he said to try taking 30 over the next 5 days to see how I feel. And if a little better I can go up to 40 after that. But if no better, I can try ...
