One Week Of Hell

I took 5 mg for one week. Day 5, 6, and 7 my depression and anxiety increased. On day 8 I took 10 mg as directed by my Dr. Oh my... The anxiety was awful. An empty void in my soul - all day. Like I was drowning. And I had shaky hands. Next day I am 90% better. Feel great - started on wellbutrin (generic) for my mild to moderate depression. I am 45 and don't have a history of taking anti depressants. Last few years I had mild depression- and mild anxiety thru most of my life.

Hello, Jon! How are you? I'm very sorry about the experience you had.

However, according to the information provided by the FDA, that can happen, when you first start a medication, such as Lexapro. It can take about 3 weeks, or so, for those side effects to settle down and to know if it is going to work for you.

I'm glad you're doing better on the Wellbutrin, though. Its typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, headache and vision changes.

My 22 yr old daughter is on day 4 today of generic Lexipro for mild/ moderate anxiety, no depression. yesterday we spoke with pharmacist regarding this and was told very common in beginning for this to happen. My question is how do we know whether to push through this and wait for inprovement of med to work ,as we know people who had it very tough in beginning and then started feeling much better after 3/4 weeks. The literature says call Dr promptly if your condition worsens ,so I find this very confusing.0f course our end goal is to have her manage anxiety better and if continuing drug does this we would see it through.Any advice you can give is much appreciated . May I ask if you are health care professional or have experience with the drug itself? thank you for taking time to read this and respond.
