Hydrocodone-acetaminophen 10/325 By Mallinckrodt (Page 10) (Top voted first)

Updated

My pharmacy changed my meds from the yellow 10-325 v 3601 norco to the 10-325 white m367 mallinckrodt. I've been taking the yellows for years with no problems. Today I started the whites and feeling dizzy, a little weak, kind of panicky. What is different about the two meds that would cause this?

Mommez, the interference in medical, clinical matters by a LAW ENFORCEMENT agency simply would not be tolerated anywhere else (bar Greece and Turkey, where codeine is not OTC, in fact is scheduled the same as diamorphine - and there it is Sch 1, not Sch 2 - docs can not even prescribe it!) Recovering addict or not, there is plenty of evidence that when such patients are prescribed opioids for chronic pain, they do NOT return to their former ways; iatrogenic dependence is extremely rare, even amongst that group. I myself had problems which required residential care, but I am taking the opioids and benzodiazepines which USED to cause problems. The need for relief overrides any dependence issues, and I have over 10 years of experience in that; absolutely no cravings or wishes to raise my dosage above what is required to be pain free. Do not be afraid. If you have psychological issues about having to take something you previously had problems with, find an NA counsellor who is well versed in this and similar situations, and understands how recreational and iatrogenic usage/dependencies work. I am prescribed oxy, clonazepam and lorazepam with absolutely no problems. And fentanyl for rescue analgesia (intranasal spray, 125mcg/dose). Anybody else have experience in HAVING to use drugs which had previously been a problem?

The difference is in the manufacturer and the colr of the pills. The only other problem would be I your obviously distressed mind.If I were writing that prescription,it would be time for you to be slowly taken off of it,due to your obvious problems. This is a narcotic medication and can cause problems with different individuals minds and, after some time using them,it is apparent you are suffering from a common form of psychosis this medication typically causes.I don't expect you will be discussing your insecurities with the prescribing physician, another sign of needing to be gently weaned off of them, with another medication perhaps with different properties needed in order to treat your problem affectively again without triggering your mental needs for the other medication, which should,if working, only cause a physical withdraw..

I been taking Norco 10/325 for 27 years , there is NO difference between generic or brand name ( yellow or white ) ... All have same ingredients.... Some people say generic Norco not as good as brand name .... It's ONLY psychologically

Well which ones are guaranteed? In my pharmacy, we do not order in any special requests for anyone in any controlled meds. We get whatever our suppliers send to us and have no say on which ones they send. We keep running out of C2 pain meds and C2 stimulants that I suppose we’re lucky with whatever they send to us.

Hello, RhoRhoRho! How are you? I'm sorry that you have also been having problems.

And yes, that is correct, the generics are allowed to different from the name brand, in the amount of the active ingredients, by as much as plus or minus 20%. For most people, this is an insignificant difference, but for people that are very sensitive to medications, it can cause problems.

Issues can also arise when going from one generic to another, because they aren't required to measure against each other, only against the name brand. Thus, someone could have been taking a generic that had more of the active ingredient in it and then suddenly be switched to one that has less. Using your example, some might be experiencing a sudden jump from 12mgs down to 8mgs.

Are there any other questions or concerns?

Hello, Jennifer and Don! How are you both? I am very sorry about the problems that you're having.

There can be slight fluctuations in the amount of the active ingredients, from one generic to another, though as I said they are very slight and don't cause problems for most people. However, if you've been taking one from a specific manufacturer for a very long time, then suddenly switch, it could affect you more than other people that don't take it regularly. From the symptoms you've both described, my guess would be that these white ones are slightly lower than the yellow ones were.

Normally, since the differences are very slight, your body adjusts after about a week or so.

How long have you both been taking them?

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Another alternative would be to speak to your respective doctors about the problem and perhaps try a different medication.

This doesn't make sence. If a bottle is labeled 10mg, that is what it must have to be approved. They can't call it 10mg of hydrocodone and have it actually be 8 or 12.
