Cutting Down My Propanol 80mg Dosage

Hi. I have been taking propanolol 80 mg LA for tachycardia, panic attacks, palpitations, and benign PVC's since age 19. I am 52 now. I have been taking it without any problems for years, it changed my life. Recently the opposite is happening, I have had a much slower heartbeat -- 52 on the propanolol, and I'm more tired on it. I have been under a lot of stress this past year and am feeling the after affects. I would like to take a lower dosage of propanolol to keep my heart rate in the normal range. I tried going without my 80 mg capsule last night but felt anxiety, PVC's, and headache. I am thinking about carefully opening the 80 mg capsule, pouring out half, then putting it back together to get a half dose. That way I could still have the long acting capsule in my system which is used to the beta blocking action. I don't want to feel the side affects of 0 propranolol in my system. Does this sound like a good idea? Or should I just take 10 mg tablets as needed?

Yes, it you skip a dose, or stop it abruptly, it is normal to experience rebound symptoms, such as what happened to you and there is a risk of them becoming dangerous.

Along with the symptoms you experienced, as listed by the FDA, the rebound effects could also include dangerous elevated blood pressure and heart rate.

Have you spoken to your doctor about the problems you're having? They can likely help you taper your dose down by prescribing a lower one, or they may even prefer to switch you to a different medication.

I have just started to do the same with mine. Took about a quarter of the beads out to give 60mg from 80mg. Done this for 2 days now. Feel a little off today but not too bad.
