Cvs Shorting My Pain Meds - U17

Updated

Last time I got my pain meds refilled at CVS, I ran out on day 22 of a 28 day script. No one in my house abuses my meds and I'm certain the pharmacy shorted me. Does the pharmacist have to fill narcotics or can the techs? I'm gonna count them before I leave next time. Who would I report this to?

The techs can fill them, but the pharmacist is supposed to count them to make sure they are correct and then, they have to sign off on them. In some cases, depending on the pharmacy policy, you will see their initials on the bottle to verify that they've counted them and verified it is the correct medication.

If you're going to count them, don't just do it yourself, make sure a pharmacy employee is with you to witness it. Years ago, when I was on pain management, I had the same thing happening and I knew I wasn't taking more than I was prescribed, thus, I asked them to count and, for several months in a row, they found that I was indeed short… finally, by reviewing the camera footage, they discovered that a tech was taking a few out of each bottle, before bringing them out and giving them to the customers. Now, this may not be what's going on with your medications, but it is always possible. Your best bet is to speak to the head pharmacist and have them count them out for you.

The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Has this only happened once?

Be sure to know the exact number the MD prescribed. Because of all the focus on controlled meds. They only prescribe for your month, not 30 days if that makes sense. Well, I can't see the number you said you had now but if you said you had 25 not 28 your MD may prescribe 25 again for your next 30 days. The thinking is, well, you didn't take a full 30 over 30 days. You took 25 over 30 days so I'll prescribe only what you need. That would be 25. Regardless if she/he writes one pill per day. It's the MD's that are shorting us now for fear of prosecution. DEA can come in and say why are you writing for more than she is taking?? huh doc? The paranoia and stupidity and regression are mind boggling. Report it to your MD and if not satisfied report this to the Medical board of your state.
